They were skippable in ME1 and non-existent in DA:O (which was awesome).  How do I skip, or outright disable, the startup vids in ME2?

I believe if you rename the BWLogo.bik and the ME_EAsig_720pv2_raw.bik in your Movies folder (in the BioGames folder in your Mass Effect 2 installation), that will do it. Rename them with something like .backup at the end of the file name (so, BWLogo.bik.backup). I'd also make backups just in case.

Is that a good idea? The logo movies aren't very long.

Wait, where is the Bioware standard .ini fix that makes it so that no intro movies play? Is this is the first game to not have this in Bioware's history?

Or was it NWN that introduced this and I am just remembering wrong?

The game startup videos are short, the ones that annoy me are the ones that you HAVE to see when you make a new game. I played about 4 times ( to see adept, soldier, vanguard and sentinel in action ) and most of my timeplay wasted on stupid non-skippable movies. They should at least be skippable when seen once. Alike the brand scenes in most games, you have to see them fully on first start, then you can skip them all.

-nomoviestartup tagged onto your command line in the shortcut does the same.

If you want to remove the intro-videos on the Normandy check out this thread.... some parts can't be skipped like the conversations, but apparently it does work.  I haven't tried it yet myself, although after going through it so many times already I will be trying it shortly.

www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/masseffect2workingtitle/show_msgs.php

Note:  This will permanently remove them, not just make them skippable.  You'll have to undo the renaming of them to get them back and viewable.

After playing Borderlands, the Mass Effect Startup vids are nothing. But yes, renaming the vid files is (usually) perfectly safe.

Wow, 4 seconds?

seriously?

You can't wait 4 seconds?

I am more concerned over the whole ingame cutscenes, where Miranda and TIM talk about shepard and the destruction of the Normandy, those i would love to skip, those 12mins is insane, compared to that, 4 seconds is nothing.

Both logos are each seven seconds, and yes, it is annoying. Renaming these files takes no effort, so why would anyone stare at those animations for fourteen seconds each time they launch the game?

I have also changed the loading screen animation because some genius decided that we have to watch the entire loading animation at least once before bringing us to the loaded area. These loading screens were at least ten seconds each compared to the two seconds it actually takes to load.

Many people have renamed the cinematics form the opening cutscenes to make the intro shorter. Some of it is rendered in-engine, but there is a mod that allows you to fast-forward in-engine cutscenes.
