Im not so much concerned for their height but rather how large their arms are they just seem out of proportion.

I totaly agree especially with the one in the Noble set. Way cool looking take on Dwarves. I got tired of the extra short and extra fat mold they had to fall into. Im short and fat in RL I don't want that in my fantasy lol.Arandomindividual wrote...
I dont' mean to be biased when I say this: These are the best looking dwarves I've seen in a game. The impression you get from the dwarf in Noble Armor is spot on.

That the arms ain't the only thing out of proportion should be clear by now.starwind99 wrote...

The legs are a bit too short, everything else is more than fine

While I like BioWare's take on dwarves, I don't think that uniqueness is based on height. They might be slightly taller than DnD dwarves, but there’s a trend in fantasy circles to make dwarves taller anyway.

The Dwarves are very well represented in game both graphically and temperwise. The dwarf noble origin was, for me at least very well done really bringing home the old saying of keep your freinds close and your enemies closer still. I noramlly dont play dwarves but really enjoyed them in this game.

Bioware dwarves are much more interesting than LOTR ones. Those dwarves address other people as "master insert_name"
Thedas Dwarves and their intriguing political system are awesome.
And I agree that the female Thedas dwarves are more pleasing to the eye, the same applies to Thedas Elves. Mine kinda looks like that Star Trek guy with the blue shirt.

I think Bioware went with the more modern D&D idea of dwarves. They're short, but not so short as to be considered below the size category of humans. They're compact and stout, as another poster put it. As I've had one of my characters say in roleplay before, "I'm always hesitant to strike something that compact and solid-looking, for fear my blade will simply ring off them and set my arms awobble."

I like being a Dwarf, especially a casteless one. Best origin I ever played.

Well erm... since playing RPGs I got used to it, although before I thought dwarf can fit into my hand.

I never liked the really short take on dwarves - it makes them look too comical. Dwarves should be tough, battle-hardened and have the potential to be threatening when they want to be.
I think BioWare got it just right (and gave them the best origin stories too).

Dwarves are short. Get over it. Which shouldn't be particularly difficult, because they're so short.

This is not a joke, but how long is a dwarf? 4 feet, 5 feet? As long as we don't know the average lenght of the dwarf, we can't say DOA dwarves are short or tall?
Female (DOA) dwarves are terrible designed. Their legs are too thin and their arms are too long. I don't understand that people cannot see this.

I sense this topic spinning off toward ridiculously bouncy boobs again.
I enjoy looking at the female dwarves, and saw nothing wrong with them. They're different, sure, but it's not a terrible kind of different. And male dwarves actually look somewhat intimidating, as opposed to midget-like.

I love the origin/caste system they made for the Dwarves. By far the most interesting take I've seen in a while.
That being said... I can't stand the way Dwarves look in this game!
It's purely from a personal perspective. I find them a little too tall, as well as a little too small. I'm a really big guy, and for me, I want a dwarf to be about my size, only 1.5 to 2 feet shorter than me.
I also agree with the crazy long arms. It's kind of sad, because other than that, I really like the female dwarf model.
Of course, this is purely my personal taste. I happen to really like the LotRO dwarf models, so what do I know?

I'm more accustomed to playing dwarves that have the body shape of a lawn gnome, but I thought BioWare's version of dwarves really fit their game world. And as for the "arms too long" or "(insert physical flaw)" issue, all the models have something that's a little off. I've seen complaints about Morrigan's arms being skeletal, seen mods that cut down on the "man hands" for the females, and so on. This kind of thing really isn't an issue for the majority of the game when video scenes are generally from the shoulders up or the PC is crossing their arms as they listen to someone solicit their help.
I love the whole concept of dwarves, how they're connected to the stone, how they flourish underground. Those dwarven gals are the Amazons of the game, in my mind.

Well, I quite liked the DA:O dwarves - enough so that for the first time ever, I might just actually play one (or two to cover both origins).

they need large arms to swing their weapons. more power + greater reach.
if a dwarf was a mini-human and nothing more they would be extinct.
in africa the pygmy tribes used to cover vast areas but bigger humans came along and took over.
to compensate for their lack of height dwarves in dragon age obviously need to be very strong.
lack of height means they cant run as fast, they have less reach. less power when throwing things etc. so obviously to compensate they need greater muscle mass.
