Yes, I think it would have required significantly more work to make Dragon Age multiplayer.MOTpoetryION wrote...

for example: Me and my wife played and beat BG1 about 6 months ago.
1. We ONLY played the game when we were BOTH available. No "Hey hunny, you're not in the mood to play so I'm ganna play your characters, k?"
2. We NEVER allowed any other players to join us, ever, period.
3. We ONLY used the SAME characters we started with, no importing/exporting "Diablo style" dropping in and out crap that you see with online multiplayer in BG1.
4. We NEVER cheated or bent the rules in our favor. (Like duping items by importing/exporting)
Basically, BG1, 2 and IWD1 and 2 were AMAZING multilayer games assuming obviously that you only played with 1 or 2 other dedicated players with the same mindset as you do.
Me and my wife had a blast when we played it, I controlled 3 characters and she controlled the other 3.
Of course, DAO would make a absolute failure of an online multiplayer game (just as BG did) for the exact same reasons BG did. It would have to remain an offline multiplayer game, with the ability for each player to control 1 or 2 of the characters on their own.

Singleplayer games are no longer the future," said a spokesperson who introduced the event which had playable segments from Left 4 Dead 2, Mass Effect 2 and C&C 4 on show.
"Multiplayer games are becoming increasingly exciting...Online functionality is a key way of extending the player experience.
Apparently BioWare's parent company is looking to make single player games go the way of the dodo.

Okay so we've got a group characters now all we need to do is...
Get multiple computers to locate each other, communicate, maintain a connection, and sychronise multiple instances of the same game in real time...
Sounds like a cakewalk.

Or making a seperate Multiplayer client, again solely giving Custom modules the choice to be Singleplayer or Multiplayer (or both?)

personally, i prefer being alone and playing single player games. i used to play wow, warhammer age of reckoning, and several other mmo's. i cannot stand playing online multiplayer games anymore. i also don't like being burdened with somebody who may or may not stink at the game, one who may or may not purposely botch a mission/quest, or hear the same idiot talk non-stop. i prefer being in total control of what's going on, and not having to worry about the other person.

I read this article earlier today and thought it an interesting twist to this discussion.

Are you actually looking at marketers to get an idea for how things are going to shake out?
TIP: As long as there is a market for single player games, games will be made for it.

Small question, would it have been alot of work to implement Multiplayer to Dragon Age if it would have been an option for Community modules only? Thus not touching the Original Campaign, leaving that one Singleplayer. But just giving the Toolset/modders an extra option?

Yes, that would have been a lot of work.
Doing that work would mean that other work they did could not have been done.
Limited resources, so they have to pick which work they do, based on what is most important for their vision of the product they want to produce.
Multiplayer was not important as the many other things they spent their time building.
