I rebalanced this weapon in my own Coalesced.ini - it's way too powerful. 10000 damage in a single shot? Ridiculous, completely trivializes every other heavy weapon in the game. Nerfed it down to 1000 and made that shot use 33% of ammo capacity - it's staying there now.

I think it's pretty balanced, considering that on most missions it's impossible to use it more than two times. It's supposed to be a "Red Button" weapon that you use only if you have too and you know it will do maximum damage.

It's like the "SUPER BOMB" in old school space shooter games, or "Mic Kirby" in the Kirby franchise. It clears the whole screen of enemies, but are very very rare.

If you don't like how it works, you can use something else. However, I don't disprove of your tweaking.

You can argue from two different ways about the balance of a weapon or skill: equative and gameplay-based

For example, a skill with an hour cooldown is equatively 'balanced' even if it one-shots the Human-Reaper. However, I'd still consider it imbalanced in a gameplay context because such a skill just robs any challenge from the game in the situation where it happens to be used. So yep, that's why I changed it :D

To use the Cain, stand behind a pillar or other cover. Don't go into cover itself. Press the button and hold. It will give you an increasing whine. At the point of firing, sidestep out of cover, fire and go back into cover.

Organic creatures are utterly disintegrated and you can see it in action. Great to use in the suicide mission's eyeball and final heat valve but not as good for the end boss. On insanity, 1 Cain shot take out about 20%

You can get 2 shots if you get everything aimed at heavy weapon ammo -> heavy ammo 6, armor ammo increase, etc

i'm pretty sure cain took out close to 50% on 1 shot with my infiltrator on insanity. I missed my 2nd shot and had to take it down with widow instead.

First time I used it was against the double heavies on Garrus' loyalty mission.

They were both vaporized in milliseconds. My jaw hit the floor.

I have a personal grudge against it because I almost always kill myself with it. I prefer THE F*CKING FLAMETHROWER! I MEAN SERIOUSLY! IT'S A FLAMETHROWER!

Used once just to see what it did and will probably never use it again. Waste of Resources and ammo in my book. I'd rather have multiple shots with my Blackstorm then a single kill everything in front of you once button.

Does it really only have one shot?

There are only two enemies it doesn't one shot.

I, on the other hand, kept the damage the same but decreased the ammo usage to only 25%. Which mean's I can get 5 shots out of this beast when I fully upgrade it! =D Death exists and her/his name is Commander Shepard (and this is her/his favorite store on the citadel)! Sorry... couldn't help it.

I noticed that many of you are noting the risk associated with firing this gun, but I found an easy soltuion to sticking your head out of cover. In fact, don't even bother with cover. Note where your enemies are, stand, I repeat, STAND, behind cover - don't take cover because charging it requires you to step out of cover -  and then begin charging. Right before the gun shoots, simply step out of cover to line up your shot. That way, you never expose yourself as you charge Cain and can remain pretty safe before unleashing hell.

Because I can never find enough thermal clips in the Collector Cruiser - the floor texture covers them up because for SOME reason it has visual 'height' - I like to bring it to get the Praetorian the hell out of my way. The best part, by far, is that it starts regenerating its shield for just long enough to trigger a squad mate considering it ineffective before it completely disintegrates.

*deafening explosion, screen goes red/white*

Miranda: "That didn't work!"

*watching the outline of the Praetorian melt into ash in the fireball*

Like hell it didn't.

I modded it to have up to 3 shots with full ammo and max upgrades. I bring it with me on every mission.

on insanity i only ever managed to fire it once. every other time i took too much damage while charging up the shot and had to get back into cover. finally just sorta gave up on it. but it really does look cool

charge up for 2 seconds in cover (standing) then pop out and aim (you have 2 seconds). Hide again.

I used it on Purgatory to kill Warden Kuril. I'm pretty sure it killed everyone, because in the cutscene that plays afterwards... nobody was in it. The camera just followed where Jack and the guards should have been.

I guess that's one option. Personally, I like Kuril to know he done fvcked up bad. Every time I've gone to Purgatory I've finished him off with a single sniper rifle round. And I wait for him to look at me to do it.

Needless to say, all I saw was fire and then....nothing.

Was a very awesome moment.

Yes, it even works on Insane. Just strip him of his shield, and he's all ashes and dust when the white light is gone.
