Switching my audio from 7.1 surround sound to stereo did the trick, not only for Mass Effect 2, but all the other games I had audio problems with! Thank you.:D

Unfortunately, I have a same problem in ME2. I found so many posts over the internet same like that but nevertheless, I can't believe, I cannot find any official response!?

This is really shame about this game. Hundreds of people writing and discussing about this sound problem, support team should be blind or something. I want support and real answers. If you haven't any idea, just say "We have no idea, don't play with your 5.1 systems." Just do that and write top the Technical Support header, its okay.

My problem is the audio becomes distorted during the cut-scenes and eventually cuts out all together. I have to do a hard reboot of my system in order to get my audio back. If the story line wasn't so good, I'd have gave up on this game a while back

Hey , I need some help. I have a Realtek HD Audio Output and teh game is not starting , it crashs suddenly. When I turn off the audio options in the configuration menu, the game runs. I know that the Mass effect 1 not support my audio card , but they gave
me an option too choose playing audio with software emulation. This option doesnt apear in the mass effect 2 configuration configure utility. Anybody has a tip ? Thanks

I can confirm the fix through changing the sound options through the ME2 Config. It seems that it defualts to 7.1 surround. Selecting the "Configure sound devices" then selecting Configure or Advanced Options for your current output device.

You'll need to make sure it's set to Stereo, or whatever sound set up you have that fits if not 7.1. Mine was set up for 2.1 (Quadraphonic). I'm guessing ME2's installer is default 7.1 and reset my device to reflect that.

Change it like this, then select :"Rescan" from the ME2 Config's menu bar. Save the changes. And the speech problems should be fixed.

Yes, I can confirm that solution too. But this is not a good solution because at the end you're playing with Stereo config. which is you've 5+1 sound system.

I hope this problem will be fixed in ME3. Cheers.

i have same issue with the dialogues...and if i change my settings from 5.1 surround to Stereo, then my sound from the entire PC dissapears, and not that i dont hear the dialogues anymore, but i dont hear anything anymore o_o.
And as for the game, the only dialogues I cant hear are those from cinematics.Whenever a character speaks while I walk,i hear it perfectly, and also,I can hear the AI in the cinematics as well, but the character's voices from cinematics are slow, and it has nothing to do with the settings....i guess its just a game bugg...

Well I found a fix kind of. I went into the Mass effect Config and clicked on Sound; On the bottom right I clicked on "Configure sound devices" a window came up, in the Volume Tab I clicked on the Advanced settings button for Speaker Settings, clicked on the Performance Tab and Set the "Hardware acceleration" Slider from full to none and applied the settings.

I started Mass Effect 2 and started a new game.. lo and behold I can now actually hear the voices during dialog! the trade off however is that the sound in general has a bit of an annoying stutter to it.. probably due to the lack of acceleration.. the bright side is that it's A LOT more tolerable than not hearing the voices at all.

I hope this helps everyone having this issue with the Dialog in ME2 and hope that the Designers will come up with a patch to fix it in the near (ish) future.

I'd like to hear if this little tweak helps anyone here so please post your results if you give it a try

Thank you
I had muffled sound in dialouges, weapon/power effects.

Fixed it by changing the sampling speed in Sound>Properties>Advanced, I changed from 24-bit 44kHz to 24-bit 48kHz
