But... NO one wants Oghren!

I don't think *anyone* wants Oghren as the guy to come back...
In a game full of great personalities and deep emotional investments - he was a 2D cliche thrown in for laughs.
I personally loved how Dwarves were made so they were *not* silly comic reliefs. No beards, plenty of female Dwarves, it was certainly a breath of fresh air.
That was somewhat staled by Oghren.
Now... unless he has some reformed-drinker emotional core that will be a sub plot in DA:A, then I do not think he will be anything other than the comic relief we know - as deep as a packet of chips and a can of pepsi.
As a test... can you think of a character you would prefer *less* than Oghren?
I would prefer Jowan much more, and any other character for that matter, even Dog.
What are people's thoughts? Is there a pro-Oghren lobby out there?

Oggy was probably my least favorite character, but I think he was written fairy well. The biggest problem is he is the (second) last NPC that the majority of people get on their first playthrough, and Sten is one of the first. Why switch out your 2h guy? I think if people spent more time with him they would like him more.
Yeah I think that's why he's (probably) returning for Awakening. He was usually gotten last and a lot of people didn't use him that much.
I hope I get to make him a warden.

I want Oghren to come back, therefore your theory is a bit flawed.
Well that is... er... one, I guess. The first I have seen, in fact!
So... you are saying you would prefer Oghren to return as opposed to any other character?
Curious: What is it about Oghren that makes you think he has, well... anything to say about anything? Was there a, er, story arc that was left unsettled?
Because I think he is the lazy character who only has to be funny. Even his personal quest takes around one minute to complete.
If he does return, I hope he has dried out so we can actually have some worthwhile characterisation with our funny-monkey. He is kinda the guy the party points at and says "Do something stupid, Oghren!".
If he is a struggling alchoholic, that may actually give him a tether to well... anything. I only ever liked him when I went through the Deep Roads - where he had a point. The Branka plot was quite involving, as was his reaction...
For the rest of the game, meh. He had nothing.
EDIT: An alchoholic comic relief does not a Warden make... that would be a terrible plotline. He is far too inept for it to make sense.
He would make a wise-crack during the joining and then do a fart-joke. Uggghhhh!

More to the point, I greatly dislike Oghren, but I have this strong feeling his isn't going to be the "returning" companion. In other threads, it has been confirmed that some companions featured in Origins will make "appearances," and that isn't to say they will have lasting impressions on the expansion pack on the whole. Patience is an undervalued virtue; I'd hate to facilitate or buy into hype only to be (possibly) proven wrong in the end.
Wait and see what happens. You may very well be surprised.

With both Alistair and Oghren appearing in trailers for the game, I find it an interesting and possibly viable occurrence that whoever returns in Awakenings can be entirely up to the player and their choices.
Favourite old companion indeed.

Oh well.
Not exactly. There's a red-headed dwarf with a beard in the trailers and people automatically assume it's Oghren. It could be, or it could be someone else who just looks like him from a distance since there aren't any close-up shots yet that I'm aware of. Red-headed dwarf with a beard doesn't automatically equal Oghren any more than dark-headed guy in a dress (sorry, I mean robe) equals Jowan. Once there's a close-up of his face where you can actually see his facial features, I'll believe it's Oghren. Til then I'm going to hope it's not.
Not that Oghren is a bad character, I think he's hilarious and have made a habit of running around Orzammar with him so I can hear his party banter. He just wouldn't be on my top 10 list for characters I'd like to see return.

Well... lol... that is the point... there are only ten characters in DA:O!!
I do not hate him in any way... a *little* comic relief can go a long way... he just barely fits the category of "character".
In anyone's Top Ten... he is last.
I just don't want a "Pull my finger" joke to ruin the Joining!!

Well, maybe they could release a "Recruitable/romanceable Teagan DLC" in the future

To say the dwarf in the trailer isn't Oghren is laudable, at best. With almost-certainty, it was Oghren. What implications his presence in the trailer suggest, I cannot say.
I believe you meant to say laughable, not laudable since laudable means something worthy of praise.
Moving on, you believe it's him if you like. Nothing wrong with that. I don't, nor will I until a proper facial shot is found to confirm it. Red-headed dwarf with a beard does not automatically equal Oghren, that's all I'm saying. Disagreeing with those who say it's him is not a bad thing, I assure you.

I keep throwing around in my head that choices you make almost right before the end of the game could influence who returns in the sequel. I mean, with most of the characters there is some kind of option to accompany them or have them accompany you.

This would be interesting if that is how they do the returning companion. But I feel alot of doubt for that being the case. Would love to be wrong in my doubt.

He's on my list, but there are others as well. Heck I'd even like to have some of the npc's we don't see much of again after the origins come back as joinable party members.

Question to the fans: Does he make you do *anything* but laugh?
That is why I said he is two-dimensional... if he didn't make us laugh he wouldn't say anything!!
Even if you take him around with you post-Orzammar... he has no depth, just jokes.

Does he have to do anything else? He's a good fighter, and does have some depth. He's like any other average Joe and thats why he's so likeable. Have you ever done his side quest? It may not be deep, but it gives more insight of the type of person he is. You'll find that not all characters, like real people, have epic long stories where they did something great. They're still good to have around and maybe his big epic story is the one that includes you?
