After all budget wise dog is the cheapest character to port ove due to the fact that they do not need to re record it's vocals.

I hoped you learned the valuable lesson that just because YOU don't like something doesn't mean others don't. You prob should have checked out some popularity threads before you made this one, then you would have seen Oghren has plenty of fans. Which is saying something, cause it's hard to give him a chance being he's in the tougher areas, serves the same damn role as sten and similar role to four other charaters, and comes off as a cliche dwarf (which he's not.)
Furthermore, since you claim he's not a deep character, I reckon you didn't even give him a chance or learn anything about him...
As one dwarf put it, "EPIC FAIL"

I don't think I have *ever* seen anyone respond even remotely well to the "returning party member" in Awakening.
I don't think *anyone* wants Oghren as the guy to come back...
What are people's thoughts? Is there a pro-Oghren lobby out there?
First rule...NEVER SPEAK FOR EVERYONE
Now, as you have seen, you are very wrong about people not wanting the Dwarf to return...l myself think his a great character, brings a lot of humor to the game and unlike most of the other characters, he doesnt unload endless stories about himself and his problems.
As for combat ability, not all of us are min/max power elitists.
Some of us play for fun.

But I am still not sure if Oghren really is the companion, I still have my doubts; doubts are melting away though.

As far as favorites go with all of the characters I would have to list them in this order.
Alistair - He's hilarious I think, and the bit of comic relief he brings is refreshing.
Morrigan -I think she actually has the most potential out of all of them. If you've played through the game and read some of the dialogue you'll see why.
Shale (who I do -not- think will return in any shape or form. Shale was, for all purposes, a dlc character, and was tied in NO way to the main story)
Oghren + Zevran - These two are tied, as far as amusement goes. Some of the conversations they have during play is absolutely hilarious [especially when they're both together! Oghren's home-made brew anyone?]
Dog - Honestly, the dog was kind of just there as a filler spot at the start of the game I think. I tend to replace him by the time I leave Lothering and he stays at camp doing nothing.
Leliana + Wynne - These two are equally low on my favorite list. The reasons are, the game already pelts me with enough "Maker this. Maker that. By the Maker's shiny gold cutlery" That I could do without Leliana constantly talking about the Maker every other word. And the game already pushes you enough to be 'the hero' that Wynne's constant badgering to "do the right thing" got extremely annoying. These two -rarely- found themselves in my party.
Sten - Despite the fact you gain him early on in the game, and that he does have his moments, for the most part, I absolutely -cannot- stand Sten. The ONLY redeeming quality for him to me is the fact he's a major powerhouse when given a good 2-handed weapon.
Logain - Now at the very very bottom of the list, and my absolute least favorite, is Logain. After all the trash talk, ect that happens during the intro, and throughout the game and what he does, honestly this is the ONE character I would like to have back least. Perhaps that might have been swayed if you got him earlier than the very end of the game but I doubt it.
Now, as for my typical party? I might be biased but I tended to prefer melee combat over all else, to heck with bows or magic when possible. I usually went with Oghren, Shale, and Sten (yes, even though I hated him, he was useful). For harder fights, I'd throw in Morrigan instead of Sten and have her heal (yes Wynne is the standard healer but I hate her >:C) Alistair unfortunately by half way through the game rarely gets to see the battlefield. As useful as he is early on, he ends up being sort of a middling character at the later stages for me.
And finally, who -I- think will be returning in the expansion?.... Enchantment?

But I fear this will come true because Bioware DID NOT carried the romance over in ME2!!

Alistair and Morrigan could not return for plot reasons. Leliana and Zevran are romances, and people would be pissed off if it were possible to continue one romance but not the others. Many players' games did not include Shale, so to make her the returner they'd have to package Stone Prisoner with Awakenings while they are still charging about fifteen bucks for it to anyone who doesn't have a retail code.
That leaves a much smaller pool to choose from, and one in which no character is a clear favorite.

Well polls still have Morrigan, Alistair and Leliana far above Boringren when it comes to player's wishes
Make one that rates everybody in the party from 1-9 and that would be a little different I guess.
Edit: And I've been a member of the Oghren lobby since it was started.

Again, No one knows who is going to be the mystery person. I assume you are meaning from the trailor clip that looked like the back of his head. If that's the foundation for your source about who's going to be the mystery returning party member
I believe you beeen mislead, how is it Allister's voice, is all over that video. Almost the entire length of it, we see him and hear him and in new diagloge. Yet we still assume it's Orgren because a one second clip of back of a guy's head. The
Fact is we don't know and we won't know. It could be anyone, to create a thread like this to simply talking about a party member who we don't know but we assume is returning
No, Oghren without a dount joins your party in Awakaning. You see him in two-three scenes IN your group... and you see his face. It is as much Oghren as Alistair is Alistair in the trailer.
Now it could be he only joins you for a little bit as part of a quest or somethin, but story wise he also just so happens to be the best pick... save dog.
I think this is actually a good thing, I figure quite a few of the big Oggy haters are the ones who didn't give him a chance, which is understandible given you tend to get him late game and he is pretty damn ugly. I kinda ignored him my first playthrough, but fell in love w/ the guy wen I gave him a chance. SO DAMN FUNNY!
And popularity wise, although forums are a bad bad bad judge, I would say he falls upper middle... with Sten, Shale, and Zevran.

Pure speculation, not a spoiler, but a lot of people are guessing that a darkspawnified Duncan will be the big bad of the expansion.

Well, he'll get a really nice cameo :/ This Oghren returning is making me less of a fan. But at least getting to see the architect will be cool.

Haha, there wouldn't be a game. Duncan would show up and all the darkspawn in the continent would just die.

Seems a waste to me, because the dude is not going to be in my party anyways so I guess it's all the new dudes (and Ser Gilmore :-p) for me. ¬_¬
But, anyways, it's not officially confirmed... is it? >:-[ Why not Sten or Shale, damn it! >:-[
