Maybe it's Duncan! Dun dun duuuuuuun!!!!!!

Haha, there wouldn't be a game. Duncan would show up and all the darkspawn in the continent would just die.

I think you have Duncan confused with Chuck Norris. Unless Duncan is Chuck Norris! Dun dun duuuuuuun!!!!!!!

Oghren sucks. I hope it's not him.

EDIT: Sorry, but Alistair SHOULD come back for plot reasons because he's my PC's HUSBAND. ... >:-[

Well, he'll get a really nice cameo :/  This Oghren returning is making me less of a fan.  But at least getting to see the architect will be cool.

Seems a waste to me, because the dude is not going to be in my party anyways so I guess it's all the new dudes (and Ser Gilmore :-p) for me. ¬_¬

But, anyways, it's not officially confirmed... is it? >:-[ Why not Sten or Shale, damn it! >:-[

Because Sten always leaves Ferelden and not everyone will have bought Shale's DLC. Oghren makes the most sense from a certain point of view, but nothing has been confirmed despite certain (convincing) evidence.

I confess to only using Oghren when I am forced to in Orzammar. Not because I don't like him necessarily but rather because I usually have enough DPS by that point ( I usually do Orzammar last, or second to last) and by then my teams are pretty much set. One of these playthroughs I will force myself to get him earlier and use him ( I had to force myself with Sten also, then he became a beast and now he is one of my fave characters, so I suppose I could grow to love the little dwarf) but I am just choosing to look at the new content and try not to care that it is very likely NOT people I want to have back. Which, I am used to trying to do since one of my favorite companions is actually The Secret Companion now lol

I do think its safe to say a LOT of people like Oghren. So, yes I would be slightly disappointed, but I will try to actually talk to Oghren a bit more next playthrough. If it *is* him and it most certainly appears to be, I may as well get to know him better first ;)

Well, Oghren actually crushes all chances to continue romances with his appearance in Awakening  - oh so many many people will be disappointed - and they will like him even less..

I want Oghren to come back, therefore your theory is a bit flawed.

Well that is... er... one, I guess. The first I have seen, in fact!

I JUST noticed you JUST joined the forums a few days ago... I love these judgements you make after being here only a short period. You are aware that there have been praise threads of Oghren yes? You are aware that he appears on many many favorite lists yes? You are aware he's a fairly popular character yes?

Well now you are.

Actually, I like Oghren. And I can't really say on this board (since it involves major spoilers) why I don't want him in Awakening. Suffice it to say, I think he's earned a full retirement and lots of little Oghrens running around.

However, I'm not all that broken up by it. He's one of my favorite characters. There's a stereotype and then there's one done well. And can you really have a stereotype of a fictional race?

I too used Oghren only when forced to. I even went back to Orzammar to swap him back out before I went back to finish the Topsider quest.

My next question is what happens to me trying to put the moves on Leliana.

Morrigan & Alistair top the Grey Warden's poll for wanted returning companion.

My money is on Alistair, since some of the Bioware team had actually mentioned him as a favorite and he carries enough fangirls to get the sales. haha.

Actually, I hope you're right. I like Alistair, too, and would be glad to see him come back. (Morrigan merits a full game all her own (Dragon Age 2), imo.)

But I'm cool with Ohgren. Cut Bioware a bit of slack, for goodness' sake. A lot of the characters in the original game became deeper and more interesting than they seemed at first; I imagine much the same could be done with Ohgren. Sten, for example, had a lot more to him than I realized on my first playthrough of the game. You just had to be patient and give it time.

The quote, by the way, was that "an old favorite" was returning. All of these characters are favorites for someone. In my case, I'd have to say, yes, Ohgren is definitely an old favorite.

yeah, see the problem? you get your fave, while countless others are pissed.
seeing how everyone now thinks it's him, i doubt it's him, btw.

Hate to say it, but Haerja's got more of a point then you. What the heck do you even mean? Of course not all characters are loved by everyone, people will be disapointed. I'll be disapointed if dog turns out to be the returning char, but Oghrens fairly popular and a favorite to quite a few (on the penny-arcade forums, for example, he even seems to be the most popular.)

I kinda thought Oghren was a joke too until the "Guardian of the Ashes" spoke to him. Kinda feel sorry for him, so maybe he does need a little Orlesian adventure to cheer him up.

I'm just saying that the quote leaves it very open-ended: "an old favorite" can accurately apply to virtually any of the companions. Had the quote said "THE favorite", that would have narrowed the field.

Ohgren is NOT my first pick, as I stated in my post, but I do trust Bioware to make a good choice here, and I suspect that once the expansion is out, most players will be fine with whichever companion it turns out to be.

Oghrens actually a very tragic lil' guy, I think what won me over to his side *SPOILER* was talking to him ammideialty after blanks little speech. How he said, "and then everything will be better." Was just so sad! Plus it just struck me as such a realisticly niave way to look at things. *SPOILER*

Now I gots ya. Bioware made the right marketing move. Unless it was Alistair or Morrigan (both of which would be tricky to have return as companions) any other character officially announced as THE returning favorite would have been met with flames, by being more sneaky about it people can still hold onto the returning character being THEIR favorite... only knowing for sure when the game is closer to release and can be judged on other merits.

sooo, is it really proof, that we only get one old companion? i wrote that in another thread, but the german preview site just sounds so .... ambigous. badly translated, or something slipped? cover-up tactics or conspiracy?

Ok, FIRST statisticly speaking of all the people that play this game there are bound be some people who like Oghren. And SECOND I'm 90% sure that we'll all be able to choose who the returning companion is jeez its not that hard to do.

Well it would be odd to have him in the expansion that is suppose to be building up the Grey Wardens. Unless like somebody said... he becomes one... edit forgot you posted in nonspoiler so I had to remove the line about being uncomfortable having him come because of blankity blankity and a few more... heh

Yes. U only get one. It's been flat out said in a number of places, one being the ign interview.

Plus all you got to use is a bit of common sense to see that it's the only thing that makes sense.

I didn't call you retarded by any means. I was talkin bout the post right below yours. "You can choose the returning character." Apply a bit o' common sense to that and you'll see why that ain't gonna happen.

Yes but he can also be easly not aquired at all. Without RtO if you don't fix him up at the start you don't get him. Very easy to over look.

Oghren is the hardest character to kill or get rid of, you really really really have to go out of your way, and even then his ending (save for death) is always very stable and fits akakaning.

leave my common sense alone :P
i'm only talking about something bioware has obviously put up their page, it's not like i'm speculating anything. i just thought this discussion could be carried away from
-it's oghren.
-no it's not.
-but.....
because it's just a tad too obvious, and i for one wouldn't be surprised if devs are laughing frantically, because everyone's raving about a dumb dwarf=]
