I like Oghren. I sort of empathize with him and dragging him along on your adventures brings for fun banter. His conversations with Morrigan are also quite funny. He also has a few convos with Zevran regarding the contents of his flask, which never seems to run out of alcohol and why which are fairly amusing as well. I still have fond memories of Oghren ripping the Archdemon's head apart with Yusaris. Good times.

According to the popularity poll, Oghren is the 4th most desired returning party member and the only non-romancible one... trailing behind morrigan by only 3 votes and beating shale by a 10+ lead.

Leliana is f*in taking the cake then spitting it in Sten's face though! Shes crushing Alistair, Morrigan, and Oghren!

PS- The fact that many people don't even give Oghren a chance due to the reasons listed many times over on this thread, the fact he's doing so well in the poll really says something! Just think about how much more popular he would be if he was picked up where Sten was instead of often close to the last.

Right you are. :)

My first pass (as a rogue) through the game was mostly with Alistair, Morrigan, and (yes) Dog -- swapping out Dog only when other characters were required for a given quest or area. I disliked/didn't really know most of the other companions and hardly played them, including Ohgren. I especially hated Sten.

When I played through the game again (as a mage), I stuck mainly with Sten (respecced for sword and board), Wynne, and Lel. It was a very different dynamic, needless to say. I was surprised to learn so much from Sten and actually got him to 100% approval quite quickly.

My third pass (as a tanking warrior), I gritted my teeth and when straight to Orz. to pick up Ohgren, then added Wynne (using the "Open Lock Spells" mod so that Wynne could deal with locked chests) and Shale and pretty much stayed with these three through the rest of the game.

Ohgren ended up being a fine companion. There was much more to him than I first realized. He was a hoot to have along for all the other quest areas. Should I play the game again, I am picking him up ASAP. Using the "Dragon Age: Redesigned" mod also helped, since I like its redesign (face and hair) of Ohgren (it makes him look a LOT better, imo).

Oghren is a great characer, not really for depth but to keep the game from getting all dark and boring, Oghren lightens the game up a bit. (Reminds me a bit of Khelgar from NWN2 who was probably my favorite character)

Maybe if Bioware gave Dwarf fanatics more Dwarven Companions my opinion of Oghren would change but since he is the only other Stout buddy I got to listen to who won't shove that maker bull**** into my head I will defend him as a likable character.

They need to add more story/depth to Ohgren besides burping, farting and leering at Morrigan. :P

And...I just realized I could be describing my husband with that same statement...hehehe

Exactly why him being brought back in Awakening is a good thing.

Oghren that is.... I don't know about your Husband.

I DON'T want him as returning character cause why then the point of having romance if not carried over?!
But I fear this will come true because Bioware DID NOT carried the romance over in ME2!!

Hehe well I still think we're going to be surprised, I still think its none of whom we imagine.  Specially not Ohgren, unless they do an about face with him and actually make him more "real". :)

I personally think that Bioware wouldn't unveil the returning character this fast or/and without a proper trailer. But who knows.

I liked Oghren myself, and he was a good companion of mine. Get drunk and ****** ale together kind of buddy he was.

Maybe Oghren is thrown in for people who just don't even pursue romances so was the "safe" choice for the trailer. That and maybe they like to laugh at us in the forums getting our knickers in a knot about what we don't know lol

Actually, I want Oghren to be back. He's also likely one of the easiest to put back in there as he stayed in Ferelden, and doesn't have anything major going on that would prevent him joining up. My post wasn't too spoilery was it?

There are other characters I would prefer before Oghren (Leliana!), but the drunken dwarf did grow on me in time. Oghren is like Zevran in that you need to peel back a few layers before finding out there is a real person underneath all his vulgar humor. Getting another opportunity to see more of that and less of his drunken antics isn't the worst thing, really. I would be much more annoyed if the returning character was Dog.

Liliana reminds me too much of a girl I dated. If she were any more neurotic, needy and just so effing fluffy I'd stake her out for the Darkspawn. Liliana too. <_<

The only reason Liliana does so well is that she's up against a sociopath (Morrigan) and a bunch of guys (a lot of the people who play are guys) and the fact that she's clearly okay with f/f interaction. From a lot of men this gets her two votes.

Not that I don't love her character. I do. Amazingly enough, after having played through enough to get most all the interaction from everyone in the party, I like all of them. I think that's a first for me in an RPG like this.

As a matter of fact, you can not.

You're sure there's no way to ****** him off sufficiently to get to attack him?

While Oghren doesn't bother me that much, I can certainly sympathize with wanting to get rid of a character. I exchanged Jaheira for Yeslick in Cloakwood mines in Baldur's Gate and then flooded them, thinking I'd be rid of her only to have her reappear in BG2. Ack!

I don't care much for Oghren, though I'm not ignorant to the fact others may like him. His personality an' background are surprisingly deep if you take the time to chat with 'em.

My vote goes to Morrigan. With the events leading up to the conclusion of Origins, it'd be interesting to see what direction they take her storyline.

If not Morrigan then Sten. Love the interactions with the Qunari powerhouse, heheh, culture clash much.

I don't think I have *ever* seen anyone respond even remotely well to the "returning party member" in Awakening.

I don't think *anyone* wants Oghren as the guy to come back...

In a game full of great personalities and deep emotional investments - he was a 2D cliche thrown in for laughs.

I personally loved how Dwarves were made so they were *not* silly comic reliefs. No beards, plenty of female Dwarves, it was certainly a breath of fresh air.

That was somewhat staled by Oghren.

Now... unless he has some reformed-drinker emotional core that will be a sub plot in DA:A, then I do not think he will be anything other than the comic relief we know - as deep as a packet of chips and a can of pepsi.

As a test... can you think of a character you would prefer *less* than Oghren?

I would prefer Jowan much more, and any other character for that matter, even Dog.

What are people's thoughts? Is there a pro-Oghren lobby out there?

Bioware is laughing at all of us right now.  Oghren was hands down the worst character in Origins.

Oghren and Morrigan are the two companions who cannot be killed at all during Origins. The worst you can do is make him leave, but even then his epilogue gives you exact details of what happens to him.

As for my thoughts on Oghren coming back, don't really care. Long as these new companions are as well written and voiced as the last ones I'll be a happy man. Besides anything voiced by Steve Blum is welcomed in my books. Plus maybe Oghren will finally come out of the closet.

I didn't say I didn't like him..on the contrary I do :) BUT..I don't think he's as deep or well developped as the other characters....just sayin :)  IF and I still don't believe it...it is Ohgren coming back, they need to work on him some more is all I am saying. :)

Both Morrigan and Sten are more interesting.  Sten is kind of subtle in his ways...you can actually give a humourous response to him, and get his dry (sometimes funny) response back.  I still think the cookie thing was a good indicator of his (humanity) hehe.

Tell Sten you aren't here to impress him...he gives you points for that. :)  He's all about everyone toughening up and getting the job done.  Course it helps if you agree with him occasionally. :)

Too bad both Morrigan and Sten leave Fereldan in every ending. They needed to choose a character that could be brought over in every game since you can't choose.
