Someone else said the tougher ones will survive better then some of the others.
Tali and Mordin are in the high risk category, so it's a good idea to take them with you.
And yes, they can die.

Depending on loyality missions conflict resolution ship/armor/weapon upgrades and your own paragon/renegade status I think, theres no exact formula yet that we know of, just do all the loyalty missions and upgrade the crap out of your squad/ship and make sure you have maxxed out paragon to resolve the jack/miranda and tali/legion conflicts.
Thanks for the info.

I had max paragon and Jack still died on my first suicide run, so there's definitely some formula at work and not one single thing that guarantees survival.

I don't know about the maxed paragon bit, there is a renegade path as well. It's possible that you simply have to pass either persuasion check to fully resolve the conflicts, but I haven't had time to raise characters of both flavors to test.

I had full loyalty save for Miranda because I didn't side with her and didnt have enough paragon to end the fight.
Legion keeps getting a rocket to the face though. Bioware did a great job of making it unpredicatable, best bet is to complete the game as most you can and be prepared for everything to keep you loyalty up.
