OK, so on numerous occasions ME devs and writers have said that your LI from ME1 will play a BIG role in ME3 IF you stay loyal to them. So I was bummed about how the Ash thing panned out. (Yes, Im one of the ppl that actually like her character lol) So I really think the LI's in ME2 are just a "distraction"

1.Notice the pic of Ash on your desk in your room for one. Yeah yeah I know MOST of you have seen it already but trust me Ive talked to tons of ppl who havent noticed it haha.
2, if you romance anyone in ME2 Ash's pic is turned face down on the table.
3. Ash's email pretty much says that youll be together again if you look at it how I do.
4. The LI's in ME2 are there yes, but really really fake it seems. Shep even seems like he just wants ass in his comments and advances haha. Kelly's LI is pretty much a one nighter anyway. And we all pretty much agree Jack is a W**** lol. So it just seems that these characters are there to "distract" you and make you stray from your ME1 LI.

So this is just my assumption so far. Anyone think diff?

It does seem like the Dev's were trying their hardest to make you stray, that much I can agree with. Especially considering how nasty or downright disconnected your encounters with the old LI's felt... It takes a lot of contemplation and/or suppressing your initial knee jerk reactions to meeting the old LI's again to see their side of things, and why they might be acting the way they did.

However, I wouldn't say that the ME2 romances are there purely as distraction. Especially given how well written some of them seem to be.

I didn't find Tali's romance to be a distraction. I found it much deeper than anything possible in ME1. And Shepard seems like he's out for a piece of ass in both games, except for Tali's romance.

I dunno, just me. I think it would be stupid for Bioware to dump all of the LIs for ME3, and give you only two options from ME1, and maybe one or two new ones. Some people didn't like any of the romance options in ME1, like me. So why make you choose from something you didn't like in the first game? If that were the case, the probably wouldn't have added LIs for ME2 in the first place.

And they're also there to make you choose, yes. It makes you question how you would handle the situation if you were the character. Would you be able to stay faithful after Ashley blows you off on Horizon? Would you be able to stay faithful when you find out Liara has turned into her mother? You question your character's personality when this happens. If I didn't hate Ashley's character so much, I still would have felt pretty burned by her reaction and words on Horizon, so I would have just gone with someone else. Some people would do it differently. I liked how that went. Just hope Bioware doesn't drop all of the ME2 LIs. Or at least the ones that don't suck.

I too was disappointed in the Ashley situation. The women in ME2 that are possible love interests do seem really fake. Personally if this series goes to ME3 I am going to have to buy ME1 again just to replay and Setup my characters choices to finish the story in the fashion I intended in the beginning. I kind of strayed from the path of Good.

It's tricky. For ME3, I would really love to stay with Ash...just because it would make things really interesting. But since Tali wasn't romancable in ME1, I kind of "settled" for Ash. Now that Tali's available, I'm torn as to romance her 'cause her character is my favorite or if I should stay with Ash because that's how the story should go down. You know what I mean?

But I agree, it does seem like the romances in ME2, if you ported in from ME1, are trying to tempt you with some forbidden fruit or something. I say bravo to BioWare for that, by the way.

A lot of ppl seem to like Tali. But from what I hear her LI in ME2 is nothing really. A lot of ppl sound upset about it. Heck one person on the boards was saying there was no LI at all with her in ME2. Ohh well. I do wanna know whats under the mask and they keep making TONS of funny jokes about it all over the game. Joker, random ppl in bars, blah blah. Before starting ME2 I knew that the devs and writers said if you stay faithful there will be rewards to it in ME3. So right now Im NOT staying loyal but I will when I replay with my final game save to import to ME3. But as of right now Im enjoying all avenues in ME2 just to see the new LI's and add to the story.

Depends on how you go about the romance. I thought they were all pretty 'deep' depending on your actions. I really hoped to reconnect with Liara, but they made some pretty dramatic shifts to her character. I think we all agree we need to see how they handle ME3. There's a lot of "see you next time" stuff with side characters too. Hell, almost seems like ME3's focus is gonna be all about love and war. Anybody else waiting to see what happens with that Asari S&M Mordrin (so much like Morrigan). If that doesn't evolve into a deadly romance I don't know what will. ;) Once she's in my party she's automatically loyal even though we just met and she doesn't have a lot to say. DLC please!!! 0_0

I reloaded the convoserations with Liara to do them all and try to discover why she acts the way she does. I don't buy the excuse she has moved on... not after how she described relationships in ME1 and certainly not after admiting what she did in regards to Shepard.

She keeps refering to this friend she has to avenge and I have determined one of two things is happening. She actually did move on and fell in love with someone else who was subsequently killed by the SB. Now she wants revenge and that is how she dismisses Shep so easily. That is one of my theories... though not the one I hold to. If you get the extra dialogue from her and discover what she tells you... that is not the action of someone who is no longer in love with you. That can only mean one thing... the second theory.

She is protecting someone else who means more to her and Shepard's future if they are to have one, and the reason she acts so cold to him, knowing what he is planning to do and having known this for some time. Namely... and this is only my opinion... a child.

I went with the Miranda LI completely when Liara acted as she did... but I will go back and remain faithful to her in a playthrough later. Of course... after experiencing the depth of Miranda's side story and her interaction with you... that might be a little hard.

as someone else said... ME3 is going to be very interesting... but I want CLOSURE!!! Bioware left the Revan/Bastila romance up in the frakking air and now we don;t know if we'll ever see a KOTOR3. It seems they have a very bad habit of letting these relationships that you work so hard at cultivating just up and die or leave you hanging as to the ultimate outcome. I hate that!

Ashley sends you a letter? WHY CAN'T KAIDAN BE ASHLEY-COOL. D<

I found it minorly depressing how little they handled your romance from ME1. You get a kiss from your human romance interest, then a **** fit, and then that's it. Or, you get Liara, which is a kiss, then a little...well. I don't understand how Liara went about,  as i never really liked that character (she creeps me out for some reason. Samara/Morinth don't though. Weird eh :P)

Although I do see what everyone is saying. The forbidden fruit is very tempting, considering Kaidan is just a puss who whines about headaches and screams "ENEMIES EVERYWHERE!" in Me1. I found Jacob, the black guy who speaks black culture and is actually damn cool, Thane, my favorite character hands-down, and Garrus far better options than my formy whiny-ass team-mate.

If I had had the option on my Renegade file, I probably would have shot Kaidan at Horizon for burning me. And yet, in real life, if that happened, I would probably understand their point of view: Cerberus is evil.  Their motives may be good, but their end-game goals remain the same. You should know that from the first game and not believe the "They've changed" junk on your ship; everyone on your ship is there for YOU. For HUMANITY. Not for Cerberus. 'cept Miranda, but nobody likes her. They're using you, and you should know it by now. But you can't chase them for now, as you've got some Collectors to hunt down and you can't do anything about Cerberus until mission end time, so you have to take their back and try again later.

At least that was my personal hypothesis when I took their hissy-fit to the face.

The picture was cool, when I noticed it. I also noticed it go down when I strayed over to Thane, making me re-do the game just to keep a save in hopes that Me3 will rectify the situation, especially considering I chose the Paragon option, and left Cerberus. Which would hopefully rectify the problem with Kaidan/Ashley.

I was just really looking forward to a continuation of a romance in ME2, so I guess I got my hopes too high. Trying not to do so for ME3 now, as that's an even longer wait for possible dissapointment.

Whats wrong with Jack? I actually find her "Badass" facade to be an almost touching experence to bring down her walls. My shepard said he loves her even... not just a onetime thing so hey, why not.

I was just pissed that you couldn't get it on with Samara/Morinth. I mean come on! You can romance an asari (Liara) in the first game but a bad ass like Samara and Morinth you can't? I went with Miranda 'cause to me it seemed the logical choice given the options. And Liara's moved on. But Samara...I mean come on Bioware!! Some DLC please!

You can romance Morinth.
And it kills you.

Do you know nothing of your characters or something?
Sex with them is a bad idea. Not the Asari in genetal, but Samara's "problem" is sort of, you know.
Unavoidable? So it leats to death.
TERRIBLE, PAINFUL, DEATH.

Samara does not love for that reason.
Morinth hunts humans to kill for sport.
L2pay attention.

I want my Garrus relationship to develop in the third game, so it better not be a "one night" thing. I like Kaidan and all, but Garrus is a badass with a heart of gold, and I can't say no to that.

No she became a Justicar after Morinth ran away.  Before that she was just a cammando who had retired to raise her three kids.

You prefered Kaidan/Ashley and Liara?
Over the actual cool human, Garrus, and the dwell assassin?
Man.

Prrrrrrrrrrrrretty sure that the friend she mentions isn't a love interest.  If you read the first issue of the Mass Effect comic (there's a summary up on the ME wiki), it gives you a few ideas as to who this friend is.

Now you can get with Morinth but it is true you die. With Samara I do believe I asked her about having a vow of chastity and she said she didn't. When I kept pushing her about it she told me that if she was younger should would have already had me on the floor hopping on the good foot doing the bad thing. Not exactly like that but you know what I mean.

She then told me that basically for her that sex without emotion is worthless to her at this point in her life.

She's also still a Justicar when she is on your team, she just swore a oath to uphold your morals and what not while she's on the team. Basically so you can get away with some stuff she would otherwise kill you for.

Yeah the Jedi had that whole chastity thing too and in KOTOR -though it didn't show it like in later Bioware games and probably 'cuz Lucas wouldn't allow it - you know Revan and Bastila got it on. It's possible if Bioware will allow it. I hope they're reading this.

How come I couldn't tap Kelly? We had dinner and then we never really talked about it again.
