forums, as mine is a Steam download. No one has came up with a fix yet
that works for me, so now I'm here. I hope this helps with the steps
I've taken to troubleshoot this. =/
Okay,
well, I'm basically having almost
the same problem, or possibly the
same exact problem. I can get the
Launcher for ME2 to open, I can
go to the config, etc. When I try to
launch the actual game, it ACTS
like it's loading, but does nothing.
Everything freezes except the
mouse. It has the "loading" pointer
(hourglass) and I can move the
mouse around, but I can't click anything.
I've left it for well over
30 minutes and nothing happened. I've tried
CTRL+ALT+DEL to try and
get the Task Manager but it never works. The
only thing I can do is
much the RESET button. I've tried everything
suggested here and
then some (I know I deleted/redownloaded, but after
that, I forget
what else I did) and it's still not working...
Here's my
PC Specs (using DXDiag), followed by a description from the

Any
help from anyone is appreciated. I'd love to play, and getting quite
frustrated...

My
problem is different because I can still
use my computer(open the
task manager, etc), but I won't be surprised if
it's they have the
same cause.
I'm loading me2 onto my work machine right
now gonna see if that
works(my work is cool with that). I did notice
a suspicious stuck task
in the task manager called something like
graphicsoverlay that was from
steam. It hung around after I killed
the game and exited steam. Maybe
steam is doing something funky with
the overlay in Bioware games? maybe
running ads or
something?

Okay,
well, I started up Task Manager to
see about the "graphicsoverlay"
you mentioned, MagicPants. Either the
screen froze before it came
up, or it never came up at all. I'm not
sure. What happened for me
was the game apparently was attempting to
load. The CPU Percentage
and RAM Usage kept going around a little bit.
When the screen froze,
it was stuck at 76% CPU Usage and 242940 RAM
Usage. The funny/weird
thing was, I could still hear people signing on
and off on my
messenger program but everything was froze. I'm not 100%
sure what
to make of this situation...
Edit: Sorry for the
double post. =/

Well I
tried it at work on a winxp 32 bit
machine and it works, so I don't
think my account it hosed. Odd that
it's all Bioware games. Anyway
the task that sticks in win7 64bit is
called
"GameOverlayUI.exe"

Weird.
I'm on WinXP and it won't work for
me. Any idea what SP that
machine is using?

Service
pack 3. Anyone know if Bioware uses
additional DRM? You have any
other bioware-steam games miseryindeath? Do
they work?

I
have Jade Empire: Special Edition on
Steam. I haven't tried it
lately. Let me give it a shot and I'll edit
this with results.
Edit
as mentioned: Well, semi-surprising results. Jade Empire did almost
the same exact thing. The window came up asking if I wanted to launch
the
game or the config, I hit game. It started to start up, but in a
different
move, my mouse got locked into a box in the upper right corner
of
the screen then things proceeded the same as they have before. After
a while, nothing was clickable but I could still move the mouse (only
in
that box). Ended up restarting the entire computer.
Edit
again: Here's my results from the Event Log when launching Jade
Empre;
pretty much same as ME2.
Faulting application
jadeempire.exe, version 1.0.0.0, faulting module
jadeempire.exe,
version 1.0.0.0, fault address 0x00193850.
What
is the EventID associated with that "faulting
application" error in
the event log?

Event
ID: 1000

Damn. That's one
of the most generic errors you
can get. Doesn't tell us much.

Well, that
just sucks. I'd like to at
least get in-game and see what all the
fuss is about. Like I said in my
very first post, I've tried almost
everything I can think of, plus
everything I can find on these here
forums and nothing has worked.

Do
you have two keys called DXSetup and VCERedist? Both should be value
1

Well, I have
both keys but there was a
slight variation. It went from SOFTWARE to
VALVE, skipping the
Wow632Node portion. Is that a problem?
Btw,
both values are set to 1.

Ya,
that should be fine, the path I linked is for
Win7x64 and I forgot
you're running WinXP.
Hrm.
Have you tried
running the latest DirectX 9.0c installer manually to
make sure it's
not something in the DXapi that's causing it to lock up?
http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en

Not
yet. I'll give it a shot right now and
post back with results.
Edit:
That link said I have an equivalent or newer version of DirectX,
so
that was a no go. =(

Well,
I gave up and deleted/uninstalled it
using RevoUninstaller. It
deleted all the registry entries as well.
Time to redownload and see
how well this goes. Will post back tomorrow,
hopefully with "third
time's a charm..."

No
luck on my end either. Just retried it.
Same exact thing. Same
thing in Event Log.
Faulting application masseffect2.exe,
version 1.0.1593.2, faulting
module masseffect2.exe, version
1.0.1593.2, fault address 0x005cf56f.

Sorry
for the random quote stuff. I just got all the quotes together from the
other forum and copied/pasted.
