It is possible that each species see them as a blue version of their own.. Then again, the salarian did ask about the belly button, and the human explained it to him. I doubt a salarian has a belly button or he wouldn't have asked, right? So it's likely that the salarian and turian at the party were just "saying".

I love how in depth the game is! even that conversation was hilarious to hear b/c it went on forever, everything in this game is much more awesome conversation wise, they added a lot more lines to the random npcs which is awesome =)
