I have the same problem except it doesn't happen every time. It happened about three or four times but now I don't want to change weapons anymore because I'm afraid I have to restart the game and watch those long logo screens again.

I think PC specs are probably irrelevant but I'll post them anyway:

AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+
XFX Geforce 9600 GT 512 MB GDDR3 196.21
2GB RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit

By the way, does anyone know how to disable logo screens? I already know BioWare/EA are responsible for the game, I don't need to be reminded.

Same problem. Began when I dealt with the dual core slowdown problem, but seems to be there regardless of cores used. Not just in loadout though - also crashes when allocating points to characters. No idea why.
Running Vista
NVidia Geforce 8800 GTX
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

I've started to think it was connected to Windows 7 somehow but Thorinok using Vista ruined my theory;
anyway - I've got the same problem here:

AMD Phenom II x4 940 @ 3.2 GHz
ASUS 5850, 8GB ram
Windows 7 professional 64bit

(note: no issues on the same machine under Vista Ultimate 64bit)

Attempting to perform an in-place upgrade from one OS version to another is a generally undesireable way to update. It is far better to start clean, and then run reinstalls of software such as games. There are just far too many potential points of conflict in the processes.

I'm not 5 y.o man... I have FRESH install (in fact it is brand new HD), latest CC drivers and other stuff... problem lays in Windows7 or the game itself...

I've got the same problem. as soon as i click on any of the weapons in the loadout screen, the game CDT's. This seems to happen both in normandy and at loadout-lockers that are in the levels. And yes, ive installed all the DLC that came with the cerberus network... halp?

Same issue. Happens both in ship and at mission start. I beat the game and was trying to play the Firewalker DLC.

Version 1.1

I think it is DLC related, as I never had this happen before I installed the Arc Projector.

Solved the problem, I have this problem turned out to be the video card, I have a 9600GT 8800GTS, the problem itself is a bad handling DX11 latest drivers from NVidia, the problem resolved to remove the drivers completely, you need to WIN 7 itself to install the drivers, they are working and quite fresh

PS to test you can try to run 3DMark Vantage or game Dungeons and Dragons Online ™ - Eberron Unlimited ™, both products are simply not run.

Tried the fix with uninstalling drivers, no luck for me. Big problem this, I can no longer change any weapons - which makes playing the game tricky!

Hmm - arc projector uninstalled (i.e. removed from the DLC directory) and now it's working again. Shame, just going to have to live without it I guess.

i can confirm that removing both "Incisor Sniper Rifle" and the "Cerberus Arc Projector (Cerberus Network)" made me able to check weapons loadout again.

the dlc's are located in

steam\\steamapps\\common\\mass effect 2\\BioGame\\DLC

so yeah, just remove them and things should go back to normal

and just for reference:

i have the shadow broker, overlord pack and kasumi stolen rifle dlc's plus the CE version

and i have windows 7 64bit with radeon hd 5870 and a quadcore with 4gb ram

Have been having the same problem for some time... very frustrating. As mentioned in the post above, I searched out the Arc Projector DLC folder in the DLC directory and deleted it. Worked for me ! ! ! Can now change weapons again ! No crashes so far...

Yea, it was that ARC Projector DLC. The folder is called DLC_CER_Arc. I just moved it far away.

Tch.

EDIT: Whoops, spoke too soon. Tried to disable the arc, incisor still no go...

Any more ideas? I have the Radeon 6870 with latest catalyst drivers.

Just for the record, its the Firepower pack (along with the ARC Projector and the Incisor DLC's) that also caused the crashes for me. The Firewalker pack DLC Folder name is DLC_MCR_01.

Anyone else here know if there is an ETA on the fix? It's getting to the point where it's just not worth having the DLCs at all with all the crashes during weapon swaps.

I've got the same problem, with the same platform Windows 7 64-bit enterprise.

This problem, thanks god, is not happening in my main carrier, but I can't start a new playthrough because after Freeedom progress i need to change my weapons, starting the crash.

I have bought every dlc except for those regarding equipment.

EDIT: i have the arc projector, the question is, why i had no problems with my first playthrough?

I have an Asus GTX460 and for me downloading and installing the drivers from the Asus site fixed the problem (the drivers there are 267.85 and beforehand I had 275.33 installed (this actually sorted out another problem as well, framerate, I guess Asus knows best what's good for their products))

I got the latest drivers from nvidia.com recently (dated 6/1/11, version 275.33) and haven't had any crashes since. Granted, they were few and far between before I updated, but the repeatable crashes went away. On the downside, I'm getting graphical glitches in some of the closeup cutscenes of Shepard as well as some of the other characters that I don't remember seeing before. Especially around the faces and helmets, there will be a lot of graphical breakup and distortion in some scenes (not a lot) where patches of shadows flicker and smear. Better than crashing, I suppose.

@disulfiram: Did you know you were named after a medication?
