As I do not know how to add spoiler tags, I will warn you now, Thane spoiler warnings.

If you haven't beaten the game, I doubt you'll have much of an answer to this anyway.

But it's been bothering me badly, and I've been hunting for it relentlessly, so if anyone can answer me to either propel my hunt in the proper direction or end it, that'd be great.

We all know Thane has a disease, but as I found myself marking this as my favorite character, I want to cure his disease.

Is there any way to find/research a cure for it?

No, not in ME2. He is my LI and i hope that we are able to cure his disease in ME3!

I was debating on looking for a cure, but I haven't found any leads. There may be a cure in ME3, but I haven't heard anything so far. :(

As far as it has been expressed so far, it is incurable. I personally doubt he'll play a large role in the next game.

I thought that at first as well, but after seeing how much the devs have seriously spent on making this the typical badass assassin.. I'd be surprised if they scratched him in ME3.

Honestly, I'd be surprised myself if he doesn't. Introducing him as a full blown LI with his disease subplot and a real search for a cure not being explored at all in ME2 just seems tailor made for expansion upon it in ME3.

All i saw in my playthrough was one scene where he was badass, when you recruit him, didnt see him do anything of note after that besides reminisce in his room.  I was incredibly unimpressed with his character after i had heard so much about him, unfortunately i think his talents dont have much room to show off in a game where you're running around with a grenade launcher.

I would have been much more interested if he were more religious assassin, less troubled father figure.

Maybe, but it could also be argued that none of the LI's from the first one had any major role in the second game, and the disease is, according to him, uncurable.  Even if a cure could be made, he didnt have much time.  It could go either way for equally valid reasons, we'll have to wait and see.
