I am unable to load Mass Effect 2.  When I try to it displays the error (Failed to initialize the physics system.  Please ensure that you have an updated version of the PhysX system software installed.)

I have updated my drivers and verified that I indeed have an up to date version of PhysX installed on my computer.  I have even un-installed and re-installed Mass Effect 2.

I loaded Fallout 3 on full resolution and Borderlands as a test and everything works fine.

I tried exploring the disk and installing the version there but it says that I currently have a more up to date version and will not let me install.

I've done everything I can think of.  Does anyone have an idea of what may help?  I searched the forums and didn't see any questions quite like this one but I apologize if I am repeating a previous post.

Thanks! :]

OMG I just fixed it myself. I went to the control panel and removed the PhysX that was on my PC and just installed the one off of the disk. There must have just been a version miss match but it worked if anyone is having that issue. :D

Seems like maybe a particular driver versions included in 9.09.0814 got skipped in the other versions. I had 9.09.1112 (the current version) installed and was getting the initialization failure error. As recommended here I uninstalled the current drivers and installed the set that came with Mass Effect 2 and that solved the problem. Then on a whim I reinstalled 9.09.1112 on top of the 9.09.0814 drivers and tried Mass Effect 2 again. Still worked.

Testing with Fallout 3 was useless since it doesn't use PhysX.

There are many such, and why anyone would prefer to choose to dig up one of the oldest of those without any solution is really beyond my understanding.

"Your search for « PhysX Issue » returned 5 result/s."

"Your search for « PhysX » returned 30 result/s."

Meanwhile, the damaged Windows OS has to be repaired before any game-related fixes would be appropriate.

For STEAM users: If you tried installing ME3 demo and it screwed the PhysX engine(or you are just getting that error) you can also just uninstall NVIDIA PhysX in your control menu, then just run ME2.... Steam will automatically install the compatible PhysX version. Seems silly ME2 can't run with the most updated version.
