Having a similar issue myself, suspected it to be because I had to install it manually, but seems it's more common than that. Some kind of update on the matter would be great, or a fix of some sort.

When choosing play from the Mass Effect 2 launcher, the system tray shows UnrealEngine3, then the screen goes black. A few moments later a windows message appears stating 'Mass Effect 2 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available'

I am then returned to the desktop.

im having the same problem

since tuesday i'v been trying to fix this problem, nothing so far.

i'm guessing theres a missing file, since i tryed it on 3 different gaming comps :\\

i can only get to the launch screen as in choose to play configure etc.. i feel as if ME2 is mocking me

I have fixed my problem.

When originally installing and it asked for disc 2, my secondary  DVD drive (F:) opened. I closed it and opened my primary (E:) to remove disc 1, and insert 2. It wouldn't recognise disc 2, so I was forced to put it in my secondary drive, at which point the installation continued.

So, just out of trying something, anything to get the game working, I uninstalled, and reinstalled, using my secondary DVD drive for the entire process.

And the game now loads.

i only have one dvd drive

when trying to run the game from steam, nothing happens.

When I manually open the launcher from the steamapps folder and click play, nothing happens.

the disc thing won't work for me, since I got my game off of steam.

though i did delete the game content and try re-downloading it again, but still no dice.

installing the game with only one drive worked

those on steam, try verifying your install, right click prop, local files, it worked for me.

ya, dl'd from steam. nothing happens when i launch it. uninstalled/reinstalled 3 times now. still nothing. verified files several times. nothing. BIOWARE!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you out there??????

well i was able to fix the physx installer error;but my game still wont launch

 I had this same problem,so I uninstalled game and re-installed game with both discs still in my two drives , install went seamless and the game launched perfectly, so I would suggest either installing game from same drive or install with both discs in your drives.   Good luck

My game wont launch, even though it has been launching before, I got to the citadel, I crashed (again for no apparent reason) I had to reboot my computer, tried to restart the game, I get the launcher, press play.. Nothing happends. The launcher fades away, the computer starts working then just goes silent again as if just stopping to launch the game

Same deal as the rest of the folks... Launcher is fine but the actual game does not respond



I've also brought the first Mass Effect and the curious thing is that it also has the same problem.. Maybe a working fix from mass effect would work on the second one

When I go from window mode back to default mode, it says Mass effect 2 has stopped working.

I was having the same problem (black screen saying unreal 3 engine, then error "mass effect 2 stopped working...") but I was able to fix my problem completely. I am on windows vista 64, here is what I did to get my game running perfectly. Go onto ME disc 2, then go into the data folder, and copy the file english.rar



Then go into the install directory on you hard drive and paste the file right there in the root directory (the same directory with masseffect2launcher.exe). Now since I am in vista it would not let me extract the file till I changed the security setting for the folder itself to give myself permissions to write to the directories. So you want to right click the background of the folder (anywhere in the white window, not touching a file or folder) and choose properties (or customize folder). Then goto security, click edit, select your profile, and check the box that says full control. Then exit and extract the english.rar file right where it is. Unpack it directly where it is dont move it because the files are set to go into the correct folders from the root. Thats it. After doing this the game worked for me perfectly. Hope this helps all you guys having problems on Vista.

thanks for the tip but i tryed it and its still not working i just want to play my game is that too much to ask for?
