All of your characters need to be Loyal in order for them to survive.

I.E: Don't make a Loyal character the leader of anything. For example, I set it up as Me/Jack/Thane, Miranda as Squad Leader2 & Legion as my tech. I lost Legion as my Specialist because Miranda was the leader of the 2nd squad, but she was Normal loyalty. Nobody else died, and I didn't use Miranda again after that.

Same thing happened to me: You probably had Mordin with the defensive group at the end, right? He's not exactly a front-line fighter. Bring him along when you go to fight the last battle, and you should be okay.

mhm.. normal loyalty isn´t loyal is it? .. normal is the standard -quasi their status at the beginning irc
[edit:.. ah i didn´t see the "ie"
.. nevermind then]

i had her leading both teams and it went well, nobody died and i had pretty much everyone exept jack and legion defend the door while i was off killing the damn reaper.. curiouser and curiouser...

That is a myth. Did not bring Mordin along for the final encounter, he survived just fine holding the line.

Not for me the first time.  Had all the upgrades, everyone was loyal, and Mordin died on me during one of the final cutscenes (he was lying on the ground as collectors ran past).  Reloaded to right before I had to choose who to take with me, and took him - everything went fine and got the achievement for full survival.

this seems very tricky how it works, the only one who wasn't loyal was Miranda and I didn't have her lead anything however thane was my specialist at the beginning and he died. I took Tali and Grunt with me for the first part then sent Tali back with survivors and switched out for Legion. I kept Garrus in command of the second squad the whole time. During the exit I saw that Miranda had died.

So it seems you need everyone loyal to you to have the specialist not die at the beginning and not lose someone in the subsequent battles. Also sounds like having a non loyal member in command of the second squad results in a LOT of casualties.

This is weird. All of my squad mates survived. They were all loyal, but I only had the ship upgrades, and Grunts heavy shotgun. There were a lot of upgrades I was missing.

I'm confused as well. I had all members of my team loyal, and maxed upgrades. I had Garrus lead both teams, Legion as my Tech, and Samara as my Biotic specialist with the Taylor guy as my cover for my crew. No one died until I killed the Human reaper and was running for the ship...it just flashes mordin's dead body for no reason. I've heard it go both ways, that he survives or dies when he defends and im not sure why.

Whole team was loyal.

I actually find it interesting to have a few party members die. Could change up events in the 3rd installment.

I thought it would be really emotional to see one of my squad die. It never happened, which I'm grateful for. I like the squad a lot. But I know if I play the ending again, I will never really feel any loss when I lose someone. I thought it would be something worth experiancing.

I spent the whole last mission in the collector base on eggshells worrying that I made the right choices. I also got pretty angry when Mordin died. But I don't think I really cared if any of my team lived or died outside of Garrus or Legion.

Does anyone know which character is best suited for the vents? Thane died my first time, I don't want to lose anyone this time.

I used Legion in the vents but I hear Tali works good as well. For the escort I imagine you just get the contentment from saving your old crew? or something.

I'm starting to suspect that its dependent on how long it takes you to bring down the last boss vs how upgraded your squad is. I also had full loyalty from everyone, all ship upgrades, made all the correct choices for choosing people and Mordin died for me as well at the end in the group that was holding the line. I did not have full squad upgrades so am going back in that save to an earlier time to do some more upgrading and M7 missions.

I'm pretty sure I took my sweet time killing the boss though cause it was my first time seeing it and all.

If you escort your people to safety then they live to continue to the next game probably.

I took down the last boss in seconds. I got a direct shot on its weak spot with the cain nuclear thing. About 10 seconds into the fight too.

It didnt survive that. Mordin still died.

You get your crew back, not sure if they would survive without an escort, I assume if whoever you send to escort them is loyal they survive with no problems and the whole gang is back at the end (I sent Tali as I said). I saw it as a free saved squadmate, I figured the person I sent as an escort would have no problems and would survive the mission, thus I choose Tali. Tali, Garrus, Legion and Grunt are the party members I really don't think I could bear to lose so I took extra care to keep those ones either out of harms way or close to me.

Indeed. I took my sweet time with the endboss because Samara kept getting incapacitated, so me and Grunt had to focus all our attention on Harbringer. That, and I couldn't decide whether to shoot the eyes or the center power core.

Nobody died.

I had to replay a lot of this mission. I don't really get it. Everybody was loyal and I had all ship upgrades and most personal upgrades.

My first time I threw Garrus into the vent, and he took a rocket in the face trying to close the door. Then I put in Tali and she closed the door no problem. I checked the guide and it said a non-loyal specialist would die, but Garrus was loyal, so I guess some people just die despite loyalty.

The second part with the biotic I had to do like 5 times. The first 3 times I was putting actual soldiers like Grunt and Zaeed in charge of the second fire team, and they kept dying from a shot after getting through the doors. The 4th time I sent Miranda as the leader and used Thane for the bubble. Thane sucks. He fell at the end and Jack got carried away by the swarm, but Miranda lived. Then I did it properly, and lost nobody. Miranda got shot at the end of it, but she shrugged it off. I guess she's tougher than a krogan.

Nobody died in my final defense, and I brought Jacob and Miranda to the final boss (who looks extremely silly, by the way)
