I just bought the ME2 2-dvd set and did the whole install, i can get to the launch screen but when i select 'play' i just get the message that 'mass effect 2 has stopped working'.
now i have an idea its because im running a laptop with the intel 4 series express graphics chip, i am fully aware that it is inferior, but it rand DA origins well enough and the rest of my sytems specs match up just fine to the requirements.
specs:
vista 64
intel core 2 duo at 2.16
4 gigs ram
250 gb hard drive
intel 4 series express chipset w/128 mb (configure utility says i have 1.79 gb of vram)

when i bought it i wasnt sure how much memory my gpu had, but if there is any kind of workaround that anyone knows about, id love to hear it.

Both of you try to reinstall and if that doesn't work check to make sure your mass effect 2 folder is 11.4gbs. If not take the english.rar file from disc 2 and out it in your mass effect 2 folder.

I have the same problem and neither worked for me but it works for some people who have it...

I gonna try re-instal again.

I have the same problem.

My PC more than meets the requirements, my ME2 folder is 11.4 GB, all my drivers are up to date, I've re-installed 5 or 6 times...

I've pretty much given up hope now. Should have just got hold of it illegally, at least those guys are able to play the game...

I find it hard the believe that if a legit version doesn't work, a pirated copy would - unless you've actually got experience - don't just regurgitate what you read from others. (; DRM aside, pirated versions of games are typically the exact same thing as the legit version. Rarely do they change anything except remove/bypass the DRM and CD/DVD checks (which often is a problem itself).

Maybe you should try that? At least to quantify that statement. And NO I'm not condoning the use of pirated software. I'm just saying.

lol. I was just saying it would be interesting to see that statement quantified rather than thrown out there for the sake of throwing it out there.

I dont see why people run to the tech forums before reinstalling. xD I think that'd be what I do before I go look for a solution on the forum...

update- i have uninstalled, then reinstalled the game two more times. the mass effect 2 folder adds up to 11.4 gb and i still cant get past the launcher. id really hate to have to get an xbox for this. i mean really, look at my picture, i dont have time for this (nor do i have time to put up an original picture)

No matter how often the OP may have attempted to reinstall, until he / she tried using a proper video device, the game would necessarily have to fail that way.  Intel's graphics chips are simply insubstantial.
