Hi All: Just asking if anyone going have a War dog in their group? For me I going have a War Dog for my Human Female Warrior. That would be funny if one of your other group members quit because they step in dog poop lol. But for me I going to try all the npc you can have in your group.
Anyone going to have a War Dog in their group?

Yep, he's my number one choice of companion, some loyal muscle to back up my sneaky low-life Dwarf Commoner Rogue.

I originally didn't have any plans to give Dog a spot in my group at any time, but after reading The Calling, I'm having a hard time arranging my first party.

I might pick him, but it will be at the cost of Leliana.

Probably I will have Dog in my group, if it will be possible for Dalish Elf to have one. For sure my Noble Human will have him at the start of game ( if it's true that Noble have Rabbit early)

No - I'm not interested in watching the dog getting slashed and get arrows for one reason, even if it is just a game... and the other reason, I don't imagine he'll make for great companion character banter. I want people with strong personalities and interesting dialogue... not woof woof grr hehe

He will be my human noble warrior's best and constant buddy, that's for sure. One reason why I'm going for that origin first is to pick up Dog ASAP. I also plan to bring him along with my Dalish ranger-rogue.

As a dog-lover (get your minds out of the gutter NOW), I will of course be taking the Mabari along at least -some- of the time.
Play fetch boy! Go get me the juicy darkspawn emissary's head! Go on!
Dog: "exciting barking" "evisceration ensues"

I may swap Rabbit in the group now and then, but mostly no, he can't speak and I want to hear my companion's opinions

My noble's gonna keep his trusty canine companion at his sides at all times.

Sadly, I don't have room for a dog in my party, well except Sten.

Yes i will try to give Rabbit a spot in my party, at least some of the time, if only to see if they've managed to make him more than a killing machine. Same goes with Shale, by the way.

Just based on the snippets we've seen, it's clear Dog is more than just a killing machine. =D Same goes for Shale.

I plan on taking Rabbit along in the majority of my play-throughs; my mages, (and theives), will need a good bodyguard, and a loyal, vicious, silly, snarling, deadly, loveable furball seems to be the best possible choice.
When I play a warrior, I prolly won't take him, just to see what the other companions are like.

Glad to hear it, because so far, apart from the original dogmeat from Fallout 1, none of the dog NPCs I've seen in RPGs have made me care about them. They just seemed to lack personnality, and were often overpowered at the beginning of the game, onyl to become very weak at the end.AClockworkMelon wrote...

Keep in mind that the war dog has a class just like you. He levels and learns abilities and all that. So he'll always be as strong as the others in the party.
Plus, mabari war hounds are nearly as intelligent as humans. So he'll be involved in the stories just as much as any other character, even though he lacks the ability to speak (but that's because he doesn't have the proper physical attributes required for human speech, he can still basically understand what people are saying).

I think the reason in individual interaction. In fable 2 or fallout 3 the dog companion was just really a quest tool, or a pack mule, depending on which game. It lacked personality, conjecture, and npc interaction that made Dogmeat a worthy friend.
This warhound seems to have cool interactions with npcs, a deep history as a mabari hound, and his own personality.

It's OK for people to get slashed and 'get arrows,' but an equally intelligent canine? Oh well that's out of the question.

Repede from Tales of Vesperia was also a smart companion with plenty of interaction.
