I'll definitely have him on my elven characters if only to see how it changes NPCs views of my PC.

I'll take Dog as soon as Alistair starts questioning me, and he will sooner or later, because he's just too sweet and good.

I'll probably pass until a much later playthrough. Dog is kinda cute and I love dogs in general, but it's hard to justify the loss of another party member for him. Yes, I've seen the Noble Origin previews so I know he isn't utterly devoid of personality. It's just, he only emotes and is apparently loyal regardless of what I do. That's boring and not very different from T3-M4 in KotOR 2.

Well, I am sure I will need him as I will be playing my first play through as a human noble rogue and with Leliana and Zevran at my side. I think dog will make a wonderful tank  for my 3-rogue groupImage IPB

No - I'm not interested in watching the dog getting slashed and get arrows for one reason, even if it is just a game... and the other reason, I don't imagine he'll make for great companion character banter. I want people with strong personalities and interesting dialogue... not woof woof grr hehe

Hmm... maybe what I really want isn't Dog, but a puppy to play with back at camp.

It's OK for people to get slashed and 'get arrows,' but an equally intelligent canine? Oh well that's out of the question.

Just reaffirming my point for all the armchair animal rights activists on the boards.

I don't think it's a matter of animal rights, but of what individual players will find enjoyable.

I'd Choose A Dog Over Many Of The Celebrity-Like Characters Any Day. Something About Alistair Just Really Pisses Me Off =]

Really Curious About How A Team Would Function With Both The Dog AND Oghren ...

Bringing Dog along hadn't even crossed my mind until I read a bit of party banter between him and Morrigan. Dog won a place in the first party from that. Whether he stays there or not will depend on how the game goes.

I will most likely have him in my party for my first playthrough. Especially if Morrigan has a soft spot for him as we have been led to believe.

Repede from Tales of Vesperia was also a smart companion with plenty of interaction.

If War Dog can smoke a pipe, he's in. Otherwise, the golem will be my go to supplier of carnage.

Tottaly. Love dogs and loyal companions. My first will be a Ranger so dog fits right in. Probably only on my first play through though. If I play more than once I want a very different party the next time around.

Dog > Alistair... I still choose Alistair the second Party Member, and Wynne the Third. But Best for Last!

Unfortunately, I always leave my good dog at the camp. :(
All of the other characters have their opinions, their dialogues, their own sidequest, and they can even disapprove of you, or leave you, or even turn against you. The dog has nothing of this. So, I find him inferior to the other companions.

The dog is awesome... for a mage killer you can do some priceless stuff with the dog... just the brutal attacks it got such as overwhelm is well worth it.

I like to use the dog to look for items, he brings back some useful ones. Have him search, swap him out, enter a new area and swap him back in, search, then swap him back out. I also probably use him in combat more than most. I find Dread Howl extremely effective.

For my dwarven commoner rogue, my team consists of dog, Shale and Morrigan. I recommend going after overwhelm first. Nothing lovelier than to see dog gnawing and clawing away at an enemy he knocked down, then see them die during or shortly after.

Tactics is your friend with dog, he is an enemy mages worst nightmare (other than turning into an abomination, that is...).

From the what Bioware states, Dog is the "special weapon" of the game... the reason?

Dog gets the benefit of all buffs in the game so he is a like a walking magical weapon. For example, frost weapons, telekenetic weapons etc.. all work and stack on Dog.

I really wanted to keep him but was worried that he would not be an asset. It turns out that once you get overwhelm he is great at taking mages out to open a fight.

I often have a my dog JACK in my group. I am amazed at how well he does. He is like a tank but can't taunt ot heal himself well. He is fast though and will take a mage down one on one. Besides the stuff he does cracks me up.
Just like our dog Flora does.Image IPB

It's to bad that he can't taunt in the PC version though, if he could he would never leave my side...
