Hmm... maybe what I really want isn't Dog, but a puppy to play with back at camp.DeaconX wrote...
No - I'm not interested in watching the dog getting slashed and get arrows for one reason, even if it is just a game... and the other reason, I don't imagine he'll make for great companion character banter. I want people with strong personalities and interesting dialogue... not woof woof grr hehe

Just reaffirming my point for all the armchair animal rights activists on the boards.AClockworkMelon wrote...
It's OK for people to get slashed and 'get arrows,' but an equally intelligent canine? Oh well that's out of the question.

I don't think it's a matter of animal rights, but of what individual players will find enjoyable.

If War Dog can smoke a pipe, he's in. Otherwise, the golem will be my go to supplier of carnage.Shiroukai wrote...
Repede from Tales of Vesperia was also a smart companion with plenty of interaction.

All of the other characters have their opinions, their dialogues, their own sidequest, and they can even disapprove of you, or leave you, or even turn against you. The dog has nothing of this. So, I find him inferior to the other companions.

Tactics is your friend with dog, he is an enemy mages worst nightmare (other than turning into an abomination, that is...).

Dog gets the benefit of all buffs in the game so he is a like a walking magical weapon. For example, frost weapons, telekenetic weapons etc.. all work and stack on Dog.
