PS: I think there are like some time limit counters in the final fight that can make you do near saves from failure. I am not sure as I am still not towards the end yet.
PPS: Someone does die in the end by that method regardless how epic you are but if you do everything before getting steamrolled, it would be a colonist instead.

Are you sure it was her? The girl you see get liquefied looks a lot like her but if you get everyone back to the Normandy safely she's there, also I'm pretty sure you see one of your team members break her out of her pod.
Depends on how well you do/how much time you waste before hitting the O4.

I needed to buy exactly one more ship upgrade. I spent about 10 minutes scanning a system, then initiated the final mission. That was it. That couldn't of been much of a significant period of time in the ME universe.

I'm under the impression that if you don't go immediatly through the Omega 4 relay when asked, you will lose half the crew.
Definitely not.
And huh. That's odd... I did a bunch of upgrades and got a bunch of resources and they were all alive when I went through.

Let me know how it goes. It would be nice to know exactly how many in-game time is needed before the penalty sets in. I know for most people Legion's Loyalty quest pretty much takes all the leeway time away and you got to warp into Omega 4 right afterwards for no penalty. Meaning you got to also plan ahead for Legion's Weapon Upgrade right before your warp with the resources all ready to go. Such shame really that you won't be able to talk to Legion that much before you are suckered into the finale.

Felt bad about losing her but it was nice that she'd feed my fish when I'm gone. I kept letting them die.

I lost her on my first play through. Next time I plan to get everything ready before getting the Reaper IFF so the only thing I do after that is Legion's mission.

I mean half the crew as in half the ship crew, not squadmates, if that is the impression you're under. Chakwas told me they were dead by the time I reached her on the Collector base. Shep even apologized while saying he needed time to prepare. Kelly died, most of the CiC crew died, the cook and most of the crew quarters crew died, and the female engineer died. There was even a touching scene in the small bunk room where one of the crew memebers said that the other crew member wasn't going to be able to hold his newborn.
