I have the game installed on the Hard drive and start playing with my Gamertag connected to Xbox Live all was fine until about half an hour into the game when a message appeared on the screen that an alternative user/gamertag had been used and that I would have to restart the game.

Obviously this was a little disheartening and also a little surprising as I was the only one in the room and I dont think the xbox allows RDP connections so that someone else can use it at the same time as myself ;)

It appears however that if the connection to Xbox LIve is lost during play that ME2 forces you to restart the game even though you would restart using the exact same gamertag but not connected to Xbox Live.

This has to be a rather bad design decision, as surely a better course of action would be to continue playing until the Xbox live connection is reastablished as opposed to actually closing the current game down.

Im also interested in understanding why this would occur, what exactly is the need to maintain the connection at all times once established at the begining of the game ? What information is passed to the Xbox Live server or retrieved form the Xbox Live server during gameplay (not at start, which I understand could be to authenticate downloaded content etc) that necessitates having a permanent connection at all itmes ?

I also have several other devices in the house connected over the internet running at the same time and these were not interrupted so I am very sure that it was only the Xbox Live connection that was lost as opposed to the internet connection itself or fialure of the Wireless Adaptor.

Its dam annoying and its an EA thing.

Playing Fifa > signed into Xbox live on single player mananger mode having played 5 games of season > connection to Xbox Live is lost > cannot save my progress and have to play matches again!!

I don't care if I am connected to live/ea all the time but when I get disconnected thru no fault of my own I don't expect to be bombed out of the game or not be able to save and have to do it all again!!!

Hmmm .. an EA thing.

If that same behaviour occurs in other games from the EA publisher it would appear that there is some *pressure* or perhaps even contractual obligation for the developer to place this behaviour in thier code, which would be a rather astonashing revelation !? and for what purpose ?

Apparently EA are sick and tired of people buying their games and want to make the process of enjoying them as tedious as humanly possible.

Can someone besides ansallar confirm this is the case? Not that I'm not taking your word ansallar, would just like to make sure its not an isolated hick up. :P

It would seem utterly beyond belief if this were the case, and would render the dlc and character imports completely useless for myself.

Yes it happened to me last night....
I nearly had a heart attack as I hadn't saved once!!
Luckily i hadn't got too far since the last autosave.

it's happened to me a couple of times, it's very irritating, i am now wondering how i'm going to finish the game at all, if i have to keep replaying the same bits over and over it will become tedious very quickly.

i had none of these problems with Dragon age, if i lost my connection it just let me keep playing, so this new situation baffles me.

bump ..

I still would like to hear from a Developer (similar) as to why the constant connection to Xbox Live is required as opposed to following the behaviour of Dragon Age (as noted above) where suspension of the connection does not require that the game is stopped immediatly and has to be restarted ?

My connection drops from time to time and it's never signed me out when playing ME2, I just keep playing.

Can we get some sort of list of the possibly relevant factors everyone experiencing this problem has (Location, etc) - I'm starting to wonder if it's maybe a regional thing, or down to certain models of 360.

Same problem no matter how many times I sign in back again.

Also once had strange popup saying something about "account switch" that kicked me out of the game into dashboard (guess how pissed I was because I save only when I go out of the game), while in all my life I had only one account :/

As about region:
Sweden.
Tech:
Installed both discs on my XBox360 with standard 60Gb HDD. Still have 20Gb left of free space.

Edit: when disconnected the game keeps on playing, the only time it kicked me out whas with "acount switch"
