Ya im not going away until I get this issue fixed. I bought the Collectors Edtion and if I don't fix this issue by Jan 31 I'll have wasted money getting the bonus collectors items which expire on that date.

I tried everything in the sticky thread and other threads too, I did the EAAccessInstaller /s parameter fix (desktop shortcut fix too), I have Adobe Air installed and updated. I downloaded, activated, and installed through the EA download manager, I re-installed so many times with my anti-virus+windows firewall deactivated.

I originally purchased Mass Effect 2 through D2D (direct 2 drive) and I have Windows XP.

But I have an inquiry, the solution involving the "EACore_App" ini file says you must point the paths to activation.exe, but the thing is I went to the "C:\\Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\activation\\activation.exe" and there is no "activation.exe" file there!  Could this be the root of my problem? I have no clue where to get this activation.exe file though...here is my EACore_App ini:

[EACore]
ServerIdleAutoShutdown_ms=15000

UseStandAloneServer=true
SharedServerId=MassEffect2
core.agents.0.id=AGENT_ACCESS
core.agents.0.path="C:\\Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\activation\\activation.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /gameName="{data5}" /corePort={CPPort}
core.agents.0.supportedtasks=TASK_GET_LICENSE_USER
core.agents.0.handlertype=AIR
core.agents.1.id=AGENT_ACCESS2
core.agents.1.path="C:\\Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\activation\\activation.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /gameName="{data5}" /corePort={CPPort}
core.agents.1.supportedtasks=TASK_LICENSE_ERROR
core.agents.1.handlertype=AIR
core.agents.2.id=AGENT_PATCH_DL_PROGRESS
core.agents.2.path="C:\\Program FIles\\Mass Effect 2\\Binaries\\PatchProgress.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /guid={clientGUID}
core.agents.2.supportedtasks=TASK_PATCH_DL_PROGRESS
core.agents.2.handlertype=QT

If activation.exe does not exist, that's definitely a problem. activation.exe should be installed by EAAccessInstaller.exe.

Please try the following procedure, just to ensure you've done it correctly:

1) Locale EAAccessInstaller.exe

2) Open a command prompt

3) Switch to EAAccessInstaller.exe directory

4) Type the following command:

EAAccessInstaller.exe /s /dir "C:\\Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\Mass Effect 2\\binaries"

Note: There should be spaces between /s, /dir, and the path. The path should be double quoted and updated to reflect where you installed.

Wait about a minute, and activation.exe should be installed to C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Electronic Arts\\\\activation\\\\activation.exe (assuming your Windows drive is C:)

If that doesn't work, please let us know and we can look into other options.

Thanks,

Alex @ EA

hey all thanks for the response! Michael that would be really helpful as a large source of my anxiety is getting this issue fixed and inputting all my cerberus and bonus item codes before Jan. 31!

Alex, I tried your solution and followed it to the tee, after it executed my computer was loading something and then I tried but the error message still popped up.  Image IPB

I believe the crux of my issue lies with the EACore_App ini file pointing to the activation.exe path but the activation.exe is not even there. Doing the EAAccessInstaller.exe fix does not make it appear whatsoever

I notice that alot of Steam and Impulse users got their issue fixed with the Sticky thread solutions posted by Dan Moar but D2D downloaders are still generally left hanging, could it be that the D2D process corrupts the EAAccessinstaller.exe file so that it doesn't make an activation.exe file?? something to look into.

I don't know where to go from here though...

Thanks for getting back to us.

I'll forward your comments on this thread to the D2D guys so they are aware and continue investigating this from their end. In the meantime, I'll see if we can figure out another way to work around the issue for affected users.

Thanks for your patience. More as I know it.

Thanks Alex, it puts me at ease knowing something is being done. I'm gonna keep playing around and see if I can get the activation.exe file to appear and get the EACore_App ini file fixed but I'm not sure if any results will materialize

check your virtualstore (you need to enable view of hidden folders):

C:\\Users\\Username\\AppData\\Local\\VirtualStore

and clear out the file from there

Edit: oops. noticed you still can't see activation.exe

Valaskjalf's suggestion is a good one -- make sure you don't have a virtualized EACore_app.ini file. If you do edit your EACore_app.ini, I suggest doing so in a temporary location (eg. c:\\\\temp) and then copying over the one in the ME2 binaries directory).

Also, if you are on a 64-bit machine, activation.exe will get installed to Program Files (x86) rather than Program Files, so make sure you're looking for it in the right place. If it installed correctly, you should see an entry in your add/remove programs called "EA Shared Game Component: Activation".

Finally, you should ensure any virus scanners are turned off and the windows firewall is turned off when installing the game, just to be sure they aren't interfering in some way.  There have been some reports of virus scanners mis-identifying the installer and preventing it from running.

OfTheFaintSmile, would you mind PMing me your email address? There may be some other steps we can try that I'd rather not post to the forums until we've had a chance to validate they actually work.

Thanks,

Alex

What is your operating system? What is the exact message you are seeing?

Hello everyone,

So the instructions for running EAAccessInstaller depend on what folder your MassEffect2.exe resides in. For the default install, it is the following:

C:\\Program Files\\Mass Effect 2\\Binaries\\

Therefore the command would be:

EAAccessInstaller.exe /s /dir "C:\\Program Files\\Mass Effect 2\\Binaries"

This should stick the files in the correct location. With the previous instructions, the files would be installed in a completely different folder.

Sorry for this inconvience.

Happy gaming!

Nope no progress, tried the above suggestions but to no avail, also I am not using the 64 bit XP version but regular

the activation.exe is still not found anywhere, I think it is the issue but nothing is installing the file no matter what I try

FIXED! I inputted all my cerberus and deluxe items already as well as downloaded all DLC content without a hitch. All the cinematics and gameplay is smooth as well.

I downloaded an "activation.exe" that Alex gave me to the Electronic Arts directory

After I installed the activation.exe to the Electronic Arts directory, the game still wouldn't start. It was only after I double clicked the EACoreServer.exe file and then waited 3 seconds and clicked the Mass Effect play icon that the game started! To start the game I must boot both the EACoreServer.exe file, wait, then click the Mass Effect play icon every time I want to play (before I installed your activation.exe file, this process did not work). A minor inconvenience though.

Thanks for the help Alex!

Michael you can probably sticky this solution if you want, its for D2D users

I've mailed the activation.exe installer and instructions to Bioware and EA customer service so they can figure out the appropriate way to distribute it. For the rest of you who are affected, we hopefully should be able to get you fixed up pretty soon. Keep an eye out on this thread and/or social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/106/index/804361 for more info.

Thanks for your patience, and my apologies for the problems.

While we wait for Bioware or Customer Service to post the file and further instructions, customers who are missing activation.exe can Private Message (PM) me their email addresses and I will try to help you on an individual basis.  To send a PM, click on my name to the left and choose "Send Message".

Please also let me know what download service you used to obtain ME2 from.  It may be helpful in determining where the error is originating from.

Thanks,
Alex

In my case activation.exe installed and paths in ini file are correct. But the game won't start even with EADM (with it's own eacoreserver.exe) running. Only eacoreserver.exe from ME2 dir and start game shortly after helps.

ps Activated and downloaded my copy by EADM

I downloaded my ME2 from EADM, installed it and got the awc.dll failed message, too.

I have a Win Vista 64bit
Intel Q9400 Quadcore
2GB Ram
GeForce 260GTX
Installed lated physiX and Grafic driver

Adobe AIR is reinstalled, and got the activation.air file
My EA Activation folder is at C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Electronic Arts\\activation\\activation.exe
My EADM folder is at C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Electronic Arts\\EADM  here I have the EACore_App.ini with the following text:

[EACore]
CommandPortal_EnableLegacy=true
ServerIdleAutoShutdown_ms=15000
UseStandAloneServer=true
SharedServerId=EADownloadManager
LogId=EADM6

core.agents.0.id=AGENT_PATCH_DL_PROGRESS
core.agents.0.path="PatchProgress.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /guid={clientGUID}
core.agents.0.supportedtasks=TASK_PATCH_DL_PROGRESS
core.agents.0.handlertype=QT
core.agents.1.id=AGENT_LOGIN
core.agents.1.path="Login.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /gameName="{data5}" /guid={clientGUID}
core.agents.1.supportedtasks=TASK_LOGIN_USER
core.agents.1.handlertype=QT
core.agents.2.id=AGENT_MESSAGE
core.agents.2.path="MessageDlg.exe" /locale={locale}
core.agents.2.supportedtasks=TASK_DISPLAY_MESSAGE
core.agents.2.handlertype=QT
core.agents.3.id=AGENT_VAULT
core.agents.3.path="EADownloadManager\\EADownloadManager.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /corePort={CPPort}
core.agents.3.supportedtasks=TASK_LAUNCH_VAULT, TASK_SET_FILTER, TASK_ADD_DOWNLOAD_JOB, TASK_SET_UI_MODE
core.agents.3.handlertype=AIR

My Mass Effect 2 folder is at C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Mass Effect 2 and my \\binaries\\EACore_App.ini looks like this:

[EACore]

ServerIdleAutoShutdown_ms=15000

UseStandAloneServer=true

SharedServerId=EADownloadManager

So, where do I start now to solve the awc.dll problem?

I don't think they've gotten it..

I've also got the awc.dll-problem. Activation.exe is missing, but I can activate using EA Download Manager. I still get the error-message stating the awc.dll har failed to load..

Please, pretty please, help me.. I've just spent two days trying to install, having to to go safe mode in Vista X64 to install. The game was purchased from Gametap, btw.

Anyway.. I tried searching for activation.exe on the EA support site, but no results showed up.. Waiting in line for a chat-session with who-ever gets my call. I obviously need it..

After reinstalling the OS and install the game I got a similar message:
"Game сannot launch because of a misconfiguration. Please reinstall the game and try again".
Start the game with EACoreServer and authorized in the game, I discovered that I had previously activated a network of Cerberus is not available. So, few DLC - Zaeed, Cerberus Weapon and Armor, Normandy Crash Site, Cerberus Arc Projector, Firewalker Pack - not available. These DLC can not log in and because of them I can not boot a savegame. When you try to activate the key Cerberus again ends in failure.
What do I do now? In my registered game promotions all of this things available to download. I was spent money for nothing?
Digital copy of a licensed version game, download via EA Download
Manager.

I`m sorry for my english.
