Currently on my first playthrough of ME2, going well so far, but I seem to be unable to make more than 52 saves.
When I go to save, the 'Create New Save' slot has disappeared. My only option is to overwrite an existing save. If I delete one of the existing saves, the 'Create New Save' slot reappears, and I can create a new save, at which point 'Create New Save' disappears again.
I'm playing from a physical retail copy on Win7 64-bit. The game is installed onto my D drive. Both C and D have plenty of free space. The folder in My Documents where the saves are stored seems to be ok; there are 52 files there for my maual saves, and the Auto and Chapter saves that are created automatically.
Is this some kind of internal limit or have I hit a bug?
Thanks for any help in advance.
Cannot create more than 52 savegames?

Seems like a limit to me. I'm sure others will chime in if they are hitting the same wall or have surpassed it.

I remember I had something like 600 different save files for ME1, haha.

Just move (all but the lastest to keep the numbering) those saves into a different folder and you can continue saving, a temp fix but at least you can keep your saves. I ended up having about 180 in total when I finished. Afterwards you can move it all into the same folder and they'll show up (but again, won't be able to create new save other than AS/QS).

Is there any chance this could be fixed in a patch or a file edit?

Just curious, but why would you need that many saves?
I've put in over 26 hours of playing and only have like 3.

You can even alt-tab during the game to move in and out saves. The game doesn't seem to load the save folder until you actually hit "Load Game" or "Save Game". While 52 saves is way more than enough for most, I've been saving at numerous decision points while trying to write a walkthrough, seeing all the different choices that can be made.

i really don't need that much, but OCD saving lol:(
but also 45 hours, usually perm saved 5-6 times in one area.
Hate how you can't name them, have to keep txt with the numbers for important saves/parts of the game.

I have a lot of saves because I tend to follow the SOSA policy, (Save Often, Save Always). In ME 1 this wasn't a problem. Heck I've got more than enough hard disk capacity, this is an extra annoyance, but bearable.

Well, I save a lot. Before conversations that are going to be important. After and before combat set-pieces (I prefer not to have to replay too much if I die). So I can load a save if I want to replay certain sections of the game at a later date. So I can show off certain sections of the game to friends without having to play half an hour to 'get to the good part'. And because compulsive saving is an old habit that never, ever dies

My guess is it's another port problem. My money says that you can only have 52 saves on xbox.

Ran into this problem just today also. PC version also limits the number of saves as well. As jewbagel suggested, I just created a folder inside the ME2 Save folder called "Previous" and dragged a bunch of older saves into that. I usually save a lot because I sometimes wish to reload and replay different parts of the story or go back to something I might have overlooked.
Not sure how you would do a file move on the Xbox though.

I can understand you wanting to save a lot so you can replay but really it's not worth it. Just have like 5-6 saves like me and overwrite the oldest one.
Then just make a new Shepard and play differently. This will just be much faster for you instead of going back through all your saves. Also keep an eye on how big all those save files are they might hog your hard drive space.

These have been the tiniest game saves I've seen in a long time. -- Plus a "folder of 50" 7zips down to ~40k.

Bioware, I like to replay certain parts with different characters to see how things go differently. I generally end up with 20-25 saves per character. Please fix this issue. If I have the hard drive space for 1,000 saves, I should be able to have that many. 52 is an unacceptably low number.

I dont understand why bioware would impose an upper limit at all. I always do archive saves whenever I enter a new area, once when I feel about half way through and once just before the end, then saves before any conversations that I might find interesting. It just feels like such a nuisance to have to move saves around.
Bioware, please change this for us OCD savers.... Pleeeaaaasee! :<
