How many of these characters do you think will actually come back in ME3? I mean sure the ones that die definitely won't but really, Garrus, Tali, Legion, Mordin, all these super popular characters could be gone, depending on how the mission goes.

If the ME1 characters are any indication it looks like we've got a choice between a vid about their memorial something or other, OR they come in in a vastly reduced role like Ash/Kaidan/Liara, and are about as important to the game overall as the refund guy and the video game vendor.

Thoughts?

Miranda because she is a love interest...

Mordin because he's brilliant...

Tali and Garrus obvioulsy...

I pick Grunt over Wrex every day...

Liara because of her biotics and perhaps duking it out with Miranda for me...

Legion most definitely...

Aside from that... Thane and maybe Samara

While it would be nice to have every squaddie from ME1 and ME2 a possibility, I don't think it will happen.

The devs have said that Liara, Ash, and Kaidan needed to skip the suicide mission in order to stay alive for ME3 in 100% of peoples' games. Any single ME2 character can die, OTOH, and this was a deliberate design choice made by Bioware. They could have given Tali, Garrus, Jacob, and Miranda character shields, but didn't. Liara, Garrus, and Tali had character shields in ME1. So why make the whole squad killable, if you are planning to give them prominent roles in ME3? You would only be making your coming writing/programming job that much harder on yourself...

My original hypothesis was that, while everyone would indeed be killable in ME2, Garrus, Tali, and perhaps Miranda and Jacob could only die in the non-canonical bloodbath scenario, where even Shepard dies. Not so.

So either every ME2 squaddie survivor will have a cameo, will at most have a limited squaddie role, or Bioware intends to have such a large pool of squaddies for us to choose from, that people who let, for example, Tali or Garrus die, won't be shorted by their absence. Bioware can't make every ME2 squaddie a returning one for ME3.

I think most of them will come back as cameos, like Ashley/Kaiden/etc. in ME2. Those that get the biggest fan-threads will maybe again recruitable.

I agree on Wrex.

Tali and Garrus have had their moment in the sun. Time for them to spend ME3 writing emails. In the games they continue to live, that is. Posted Image

Thane has a short life expectancy, and samara is unfortunatley forgettable.  Kaiden/Ashley are gonna be back, because its been said by devs that they will react negatively if you pursue a love interest after having dated them in the first.

Miranda and Jacob are toss-ups, just because they're love interests doesnt mean they'll be coming back.  Obviously this game included none of the last love interests, not actively at least.

Legion for sure will play a larger role.

Garrus needs to GTFO already.

Tali stays for storyline reasons, and shes adorable now that we've seen her romance plot.

Mordin because he's hilarious.

Liara will likely join in an effort to find the shadow broker, obviously has some morality issues that can be intersting throughout.

Jack might be back as a cameo, cant see her playing too large a role.

that's the thing, Legion can't play a larger role because he can die. Tali can't stay because she can die, Mordin can't stay because he can die. Miranda and Jacob can't stay because they can die.

The writer's wrote themselves into a hole here because either A) people will be disappointed in how small a role their favorite character plays in ME3(Liara was no more important to the story then the new refund guy) or B) they'll be disappointed in whatever posthumous character shielding they get that brings them back.

Just to add to RK5,

Samara was only along for this specific ride. There is no guarantee whatsoever that she'll want to stay along - she has a job to do as justicar.

They can all die, none of them might return to ME3 as squad members, but i would be severely disappointed if the quarian/geth debate werent settled or at least started to get settled in the third game.  I agree the writers have their work cut out for them, im anxious to see how they're gonna write then next one knowing most of the main characters in the game could all be potentially dead at the start of the next game.

They sure did. Perhaps the -everyone- can die scenario wasn't a great idea after all. Either way you're going to ****** people off now.

Honestly, and yeah, I know this is a trend with BW games, but hopefully the devs will include most of the cast of ME2 in 3. Some characters could go, like Jack, Samara/Morinth, and Jacob/Miranda.

As far as I'm concerned as long as either Garrus or Tali (hopefully Tali, as she always has a place in the story) make it into ME3 (as recruitable characters), most people will generally be happy. Not only for the carried over romance possibilty, but more so for the true loyalty to Shepard throughout the series.

Yeah, KAiden, Ash or Liara could all be coming back but it really aint the same as knowing a character stuck with you your entire journey, like a bro, so to speak.

Hopefully all of the LIs from both games will return in the third one as squaddies.

I don't see how any of the potential deaths in either game could really rule out anyone completely as we'll likely be getting Ash/Kaiden back regardless of whether you romanced them or even saved the opposite gendered one.

It simply seems off that Bioware would decide to leave out certain characters from your squad just because of their potential deaths in ME2 as well, such as even Tali and Garrus. I fully expect them to return in ME3 as full squaddies as well simply because I think the trilogy would be better off having certain characters who have always eventually stuck by Shepard in each game just to enhance the continuity and allow for some real dramatic storytelling towards the end.

Really, I think any of the characters have a serious chance of returning even as squaddies, even Thane as the whole "I'm dying" bit while also being an LI just screams "Mission to cure Thane in ME3" to me.

Legion does not follow the same rules as the other characters. For all we know it could have downloaded somehow like the cylons from BSG, it is not bound to its hardware. Or more likely due to the nature of the geth a replacement could be easily made. Legion is a terminal of the geth, I doubt there is anything that it kept to itself and didn't share with the rest of the geth, meaning it represents the geth as a whole and not a fraction of the geth with different experiences. Because of this I believe a new body could be made and it would still behave as the first Legion did, including the sentimentality over Shepard's armor.

They're doing the same thing they did with Wrex. If he died he isn't there but someone else it - if he didn't die then he'es there. If you honestly believe that some of the ME2 squaddies, including your love interest, isn't going to be in the game - then your going to be in for a surprise. There will be no new squad mates in ME3 from what we heard fro Bioware. They said they don't want to make us dump our new crew for another new one that we have to get to know all over again. So yes Kaidan/Ashley and Liara will be in the ME3 game, but thats just 2 squaddies. Whoever survived the suicide mission will get pulled over. For example: Miranda, Garrus, Tali, Jack, Thane survive. Everyone else doesn't - and you romance Miranda. Miranda will get pulled in, along with Garrus, Tali, Jack, and Thane.
Have you not beaten the game and seen the crew getting ready to have a go at those new reapers? You seriously think they will back out now when they're about to get into the real mess? I don't think so.

EDIT: It amuses me that some people say stuff like "Bioware can't" do this or "Bioware won't be able to" do that. You obviously know nothing of the gaming industry or the engine their using - so you can't say any of that. Unless you know for sure, don't act as if your the CEO of the comany and you told them that they can't or won't be able to do something.

As long as Miranda, Garrus, and Jacob roll back through and are in my crew. We're solid.
