Hi.

I bought the PC-Version of Mass Effect 2 yesterday, but I can't seem to get the Cerberus Network ingame to work. On startup it tells me, that the DLC is not available. Also, the Laptop on the right is closed, and on clicking "Connect", I get the following error message: "Cerberus Network activation requires Internet connection. Please ensure you are connected to the Internet and try again."

I'm 100% sure, that I have an active Internet connection (ALT-Tab + surfing on this forum should prove it ;) ), and I already redeemed the code through the Bioware Social Network. I tried disabling both my router's firewall and the Windows firewall, but nothing seemed to work.

I'm living in Germany with the game language set to english, could this be a problem? The Dragon Age: Origins connection worked just fine for me... so I am a bit disappointed right now :crying:

btw: call me a noob or something, but I couldn't find the forum search, so I'm opening up a new topic :P

I had the same problem with Dragon Age at the time, and for me it turned out be Peerguardian that was stopping all incoming and outgoing connections.

Same for ME2, I have to turn off Peerguardian before playing.

Maybe you're running something similar in the background?

Had the same problem. In my case it was firewall that was blocking the connection.

No, I don't have Peerguardian running, only Avira Antivir... but that's hardly the same, I realize just now :) Also, there are no other programs running in the background that could interfere with my connection. Tried disabling both firewalls (router and windows), but this didn't help at all, as well as resetting the router.

As I said, Dragon Age worked just fine, except for some short timeouts, which happened only once or twice. Maybe I try to reinstall the game and use German language... as much as I hate to do so :(

but thanks for the fast replies :)

I'm also having this problem.

On hunch, I ran the game windowed and monitored my network activities via Comodo and saw nothing, although that might not mean anything. I'm using a USB dialup modem - cellphone - and I've been wondering if that's the issue; are the other people suffering from this using something similar?

Nope, I'm using a router which is constantly connected to the internet, and I access this router via WLAN. Maybe if I set it as a DSL-modem it will work... I have no clue whatsoever. But hey, i guess it's not a bug, it's a feature! :)

yeah, well, I think I just play the game and wait for a patch or something... I honestly have no clue what is going on there. Tried everything that was posted before, and still couldn't get it to work. I mean, more new stuff on a 2nd playthrough, right?

edit: also, those loading times are really annoyingly long... or is that just me?

Great, thanks a lot, that really did it!!!

Also, has there been any solution to the original problem yet? It really really sucks to see the "Cannot load DLC"-dialogue at the beginning of the game :(

Heck, for a second there I thought the "no internet connection" bug had a solution.

I've got the same problem, and tried everything, including opening ports, disabling firewall and anti-virus software, using a completely different internet connection, etc.

But I think it's just a bug: ME2 doesn't seem to try to connect at all, because the error message "Cerberus Network activation requires Internet connection" pops up immediately. And other programs (including Dragon Age) have no problem connecting to the internet.

Same problem as yours...

No answer from support for two days on this topic...

Does anyone knows what part of game can be played without DLC?

At what point of the game the DLC (Normandy and Zaed) can no more be played?

I think the DLC is just additional stuff, I've been playing the game right now for about 30h and it seems to work fine. Still hoping for a fast patch... seems that this isn't the only issue this game has.

Exactly the same problem here, ive turned off my firewall and opened all the ports from the readme. Also, I can't access the ea online store from in game. It seems that mass effect 2 just isn't recognising my internet connection.

As a matter of interest, what router is everyone using? I have a thompson tg585

That's two thompsons. I know they're pretty common but could it be the connecting factor?

Dlink here, I do not think it is a router issue. Can we get a BioWare rep to help us out?

I bought my copy through Steam. Might that be the problem?

Though personally I still think it's a bug. Or maybe a port number has to be opened that isn't mentioned in the readme.

I bought my copy in a store, so I don't think that's the problem.

I'm NEVER going to pre-order or buy a deluxe version of a Bioware game ever again.
