Hey... I have been unable to find a solution for this bug so far, so i will try to post it here...

First of, my pc is fine and meets specs (and then some)
OS = Win 7
CPU = I7-950 @ 3,5GHZ OC
RAM = 6Gb DDR3 @ 1866MHz
GFX = ASUS ENGTX295 Single PCB
With more than one terabyte free harddrive space for pagefile and such.
Also if it makes a diffrence, i run with 5.1 sorround on.

The bug occurs when you after having picked your squad try to chage weapons on shepard(maybe on the others too, havent tried) When i pick any weapon i want to replace, the game freezes instantly and the music stops, thne after a while, music comes back but game is completely frozen....

I have been able to succesfully change and paint armour at normandy, but i can't change weapons for some reason (I have installed both the collectors edition special armour and weapons and the game stop exclusives)

Hope you can hlep me.

Hmm this is indeed a strange one. Definitely sounds like a game bug to me. And the fact that it is so specifically related to just the weapons screen - or more specifically, selecting a weapon. It doesn't happen on any other screen at all, eh? Not even the slightest of hiccups anywhere else?

Have you tired backing up your saves then uninstalling and reinstalling?

It happens when you select a charachter for weapon loadout changes, just goes cold.

I'm trying to just uninstall the "bonus" items, seeing if they're the ones causing the problems, afterwards i'll try complete uninstall..

Np.

Read the last two posts; they're talking about this issue and the one where the game freezes at the rendered loading screen.

uninstalling the DLC didn't help....

The last two threads are for adressing a problem for users with a system that only have 1 core... Mine has eight, also it is not a problem with the loading screen, it is when you click "choose" on a charachter in weapon loadout, i looked over the threads, didn't find help, trying to make a whole new install deleting saves, without importing ME1 chars (my system got a little fuzzy when i did that last time...)

I will keep updating here..

UPDATE:

Now it don't freeze, so i think it's either the collector rifle or blackstorm gun thing that causes the malfunction.....

Good info and well done MNJDK. Continue to play without those and see if is indeed the case. Can you redownload those DLC's? (sorry I don't have them) If you can, try doing that and installing 1 at a time then playing in order to rule out one over the other.

Hey I'm getting the same problem, and it seems to happen when I have gamespot and collectors dlc installed. When I have only one of them installed or none then the game runs without any problems. My friend has the same DLC I have and he has no problems at all. Now I have noticed that you said you have 8 cores (i7 I presume) and so do I (while my friend only has 2 cores). Is it possible that this could be causing the error? Do you know who should we contact, EA support or BioWare??

I will look into the core stuff later, trying to disable some of the cores might work....

But the problem is not the DLC, it is when you have more than one weapon to choos between...

Yeah you are correct. Dunno why but when I had no DLC installed at all or only one of the 2 then the I had no problems, but now I have them with and without dlc. Hopefully BioWare caught this issue and will include a fix in the patch. My whole first playthrough I had to endure playing with the default weapons (or to what they have been changed after acquiring other weapons).

Don't feel like disabling my cores now, will try to run it on my laptop with a core 2 duo.

Nemesis: I'm not gonna physically disable the cores, love my i7 waaaayyy tooo much.... I'm just gonna set the procesor affinity for ME2 to be only 2 cores...

k :D, update me with whatever results u get, i'm just installing the game on my laptop, will see how it goes.

EDIT: while i'm waiting for the game to install i tryied the core affinity trick, bit of a difference now. So when i have all 8 cores asigned to the process when i get to loadout menu and press on squad member or shepards name and press choose the game crashes. When i change the affinity to 2 cores then it actually shows the 5 weapon slots and the weapons that i can cange, but as soon as i click on asoult rifle (shows i have 2 now (started the 2nd playthroug))  and press choose the game crashes again. Obviously the game is not really optimized for i7, but it seams to me that this is an error that i combined with not being to load the 2nd part of loadout screen on i7 but crashes when changing weapon with different affinity. will try with 4 cores afinity now.

EDIT 2: 4 core afinity causes the same problem as with all 8 cores. strange.

I made it work, somehow..... But it has some downsides....

When i just let the game run on core 2-3 (which is actually vore 3 and 4) It can manage weapon laodsouts correctly!... BUT... Sound gets really 'taggy' and broken op, like the sound only comes through half the time, and the conversations has giant holes where no one says anything, it's just subtitles.... but if you set affinity to 2 cores when changing weapon load outs, you should be fine... I'll look for a way to make Biware aware of this issue...

But i'm thinking it might also be something because its a 64bit system....

hm, i didn't try specific cores, i just went with 0 and 1 and 0 to 3, really a strange issue

and for the x64 bit system issue, i don't think it is, my friend with a c2d has a x64 win 7 just like i do, so...

Look at the solution in the top post... should fix most of the issues.. :) been testing different core options and numbers, runs smoothly except for the unexplainable lag... :P

hm, i'll have to play with my setup a bit, still causes probs for me, but i just realized sth, didn't pay much attention to it before. If you run the Mass Effect 2 Configuration Utility u can see that it detects the processor as i7 but it only shows 4 as # of cores. that's prolly what is causing the prob. I guess i'll just play with affinities and w8 for BioWare to release the patch that fixes this. Hopefully u can point them to this thread.

Hmm I just tested with 6 threads active in affinity, works too.... It just seems like 8 is an unlucky number ;)

I can explain the config readings....

I7 technically only has 4 cores, BUT i7 also comes with HT(Hyper Threading) which lets it run 2 threads on a single core, giving it 8 logical threads (meaning windows treats it like an octo-core.... And i is in all aspects except physically..... I can't really find a specific way to get to them, but it seems that problems posted and solved in this forum gets into patches anyway.. :)

Also found out what caused my unreasenable lag .... film grain... also did it in ME1..... I have no idea why but that effects can force an OC'ed i7 (3,5 GHz) and a dual gpu card into submission... :P

yeah, i know that i7 is technically a quad (it is the first actual quad core processor (c2q was only 2 duals stuck on the same die)). But most of other programs and games detect it as a 8 core processor (coz it's telling them to do so by enforcing HT). I got it to work in the end. Hopefully this will be fixed in the patch so i won't have to change the affinity. (Working stable with 7 cores too :D )

same for me, it actually works with only incisor rifle, with all 8 cores, then it just stops working, then it starts to work again. Then when I get more weapons or install additional dlc it just crashes right away. I started playing the game in windowed mode now just so that i can monitor what's happening and i can actually see that it uses all 8 cores if i don't change the affinity, so it knows that they are there. Hopefully this will be fixed by a patch, till then my 2nd playthrought will have to wait.
