ok so after a bit more of testing i just keep getting the crash randomly on all of the core configuration. It works for about 2 or 3 changes but then it just crashes randomly, and sometimes it just crashes the first time after i load. probably would be useful for some people to add this to the main post, so it kind of works randomly
, did an install on my laptop with a core 2 duo, and it works without probs.

Sorry to ruin your i7 thing but I got the same probem but dont have i7.
Im running AMD Phenom™ X3.
Got the game from EA Store, installed with the DLs that you get from Digital Deluxe Edition plus
the Dragon Age armor.
I can change the weapons on Shepard but if im trying on any of my teammate the game crashes.

Having same problem with i7/5870. How do you "uninstall" the DLC? I can reinstall. There is nothing in my Win7 x64 "program and files" to "uninstall".
How did you set the affinity to 1 core? Just minimize and change on the fly?

Ok, I renamed the new DLC for the electric gun, set my masseffect2.exe to be on a SINGLE CORE - and now I can change loadout. Once I "unloaded" the Collector Beam and put the rocket launcher back all seems good....
So....
DLC messed it up
Single core
Fix your loadout
Go back to you 4+4 cores
I can't believe bioware has not tested this. i wish I could send them my save file and say "play this and watch it crash".

still not working for me (tried everything mentioned on forum)
I think it must be something with W7 64 bit incompatibility - in my case everything worked fine on Phenom II 940/8 BG ram/ATI4850-ATI5850 under Vista Ulti 64bit
now the same rig (ATI5850) under fresh installed W7 Prof 64bit --> cant change weapons no matter what I do...

problem SOLVED! (at least for me) -
in my case the problem was caused by Catalyst driver (10.3) - why am I so sure?
after almos two weeks of struggle I decided to install Vista 64bit as a dual boot OS - than I used drivers that came with my video card (ASUS EAH5850) and there was no single problem with playing ME2 so I logged back into Win 7 and removed CCC 10.3 and cleaned every single bit of that crappy code from my machine - than I tried to instal ASUS drivers but than SURPRISE!!! I wasnt able to do that because Win7 couldnt recognize ASUS signature o.O after some research I installed drivers from here: http://support.asus....SLanguage=en-us (5850-->Win7 64bit-->the top one) without update to CCC 10.3 and voila! ME2 runs smoothly at max details (same goes to Fallout3 with bunch of graphics mods, which wouldnt even start under CC10.3) !!
I guess there must be some incompatibility between Win7 64bit + Phenom II x4 + AUS EAH5850 and Catalyst Drivers 10.3 - maybe its just ASUS EAH5850 and CCC 10.3
P.S.remember to use Driver Sweeper to clean after Catalyst uninstallation and reboot before installing new drivers
btw. sorry for my english - its not my mothertongue
