Why is it that, out of all the concerns people have, most of you only pick out the inventory as though that's the only thing people have a problem with?

Besides that, I can't objectively see how planet scanning is better to have INSTEAD OF mako planet exploration because, frankly, planet scanning never changes. You don't have to deal with possible geth bases, Prothean artifacts, Thresher Maws, ambushes, transformed science teams, pirates, slavers, lethal weather conditions, etc.

I don't see why we can't have both. Of course, this could be addressed by the Hammerhead, not enough details on that yet.

As for improvements the planet scanning thing as a whole, the only things I can think of without making it too easy are better scanner results giving you an idea of exactly what is on the planet, but not where. Maybe more of a visual cue as to where it is, too.

90% of the MAKO's time was spent going over barren terrain or up 90o inclines, the map showed your objectives so you weren't searching blind. Yes there was the odd geth incursion which you bumped into, but how often was that? hardly ever.

And the amount of times I came across a probe, or similar item, and couldn't do diddly with it because my team was comprised wrong.

Give me planet scanning any day, and for short periods it actually quite fun, and you can get a suprisingly large amount of minerals in, say, 30mins; I tended to spend about that amount per day, doing it.

I like the planet scanning, I also loved driving around in the Mako in ME1, also I liked those gummy block ship things in Kingdom Hearts, so take that

Well thank god I got the save Editor and can give myself tons of each resources, it just an annoying time sink (I mean why do you have to buy the item the research the item?), sure it can be fun at times, but in other ways its annoying.

I think that the person who is responsible for the scanning minigame should be asked by Bioware to scan planets until ME3 is released before they fire him.

I agree. This is the absolute worst part of the game. By the time I've played for an hour I've had it with the game and have to do something else....unless I've gotten so bored I'm falling asleep! I have to wonder if their play testers actually played through the game or just spot checked it, I can't see how anyone could say that planet scanning as it exists in the game is anything but BORING! It could have been done so much better...an opportunity to launch MORE side quests or to find new technology, or anything but accumulating a bunch or resources that you can never use in the game. It's just a big time sink. If you look at the time you spend doing it, you probably spend more time planet scanning than you do playing missions where you can actually DO something relevant. They could have at least let you trade or sell some of the stuff off for credits. And what the hell is the fuel thing all about? It makes no sense...if their are hidden systems to discover in each sector and you have to explore for them, then OK...but just to go from 1 system to another in a local cluster...gimme a break...

Bioware did a great job on the game with those two exceptions IMHO. Everything else about the game was great...but the planet scanning really kills the experience. It will be awhile before I go for a 2nd play through...if I bother at all.

If you have a mouse with sensitivty adjuster on it scanning is pretty quick... esplecially with the upgraded scanner. I just max out my sensitivity and the scanner moves around ALOT faster

Yeah, it has to go (or evolve) for ME3. Though it's much better than the Mako side-quests for resources (that I didn't even care about anyway).

Just to add my voice to the chorus...

Scanning on Xbox with the force feedback was fun for the first couple of planets, but then it became completely tedious. I used it to pace myself in my first playthrough of ME2, so that I could save the cool parts, but it was so mind-blowingly boring that I was astounded that it was even in the game.

And I'd liek to add that scanning in no way compares to driving the Mako around. Despite the occasional frustration with near-vertical slopes, I mostly enjoyed driving the Mako. At least on planets the scenery changed. I really loved driving to the top of a mountain and admiring the beautiful view!

Scanning is just soul-destroying.

I am playing through the original mass effect after completing ME2...
Just an observation: good god, this game is dull. I don't understand how it received such good reviews, because the everything is just over-long, overblown and tedious, from the cutscenes to the dialog to the missions.
I don't know where along the line they decided 'epic' was short for 'boring'.

Although scanning is pretty dull, it's better than driving the ****ing mako around for an hour to reach anywhere, then instantly dying as soon as you hit a patch of lava.
