Can anyone here tell me whether or not you are using a quad core cpu? I have an am2 6000+ dual core, and I have this problem under ubuntu linux, though I've found that setting cpu affinity, in a very windows like way, does help with the problem. Not 100 percent, but it does help.

I don't understand how you could be on topic regarding Linux, since I don't think there's a Linux version of ME-2 even planned anywhere.

Well it's simple, there's a program called wine that lets you run some windows programs under linux. The point is, there are similarities in the way the game behaves under both operating systems. I think it's to do with the cpu speed being changed on the fly. If I disable acpi support in my computer's bios, the game loads up fine, but that's not an ideal fix. So....anyone here using a quad core phenom or higher?

I have a same problem as everyone, game freezes forcing me to do a hard reset. No crashes to desktop, no error messages, just complete system freeze. It absolutely never happens with my other games. Temperatures are fine and I have latest drivers.

I have:

Intel Core2 Quad Q8400 @ 2.66 GHz

4 GB RAM

NVidia GeForce 260 GTX

Windows 7 64-bit

I've been reading all the posts on this thread for 5 hours, I think. I've tried everything, but nothing seems to work for me.
I just bought ME1 & 2 from Steam yesterday and neither one of the games won't play properly. I mean I have the same crashing problem every 5 minutes. I've changed the resolution, installed new drivers, triend the affiniety trick, but nothing seems to work! I'm getting really upset because I wanted to play those games so badly, but now all I got are 2 games that won't even work...

My specs:

intel duo centrino processor @ 2,4ghz
nvidia GeForce 9600M GT 512mb
4gb ram

could somebody help me pleeease!

The author of the comment above didn't include enough information.  We don't know what kind of "freeze", we have no mention of where in the game it "freezes", the drivers cannot be evaluated when merely described as "latest", etc. etc.

Yes, Bioware's programmers assembled a tinker toy bad excuse for a Search function, but Google and Yahoo work just fine, so there is no need to dig in the graveyard at all.  Just use a site redirector:  Then, if that doesn't help you, follow all of Pacifien's instructions about reporting.

site:social.bioware.com

There isn't any "five hours" worth of comments in this particular old corpse of a message thread, but if there were, the report above is incomplete and doesn't give us enough to work with.

Check out my thread about similar problem. Maybe someone has a setup like me and could try any of the solutions that seem to have worked for me:
