Hurm guys, I know this is odd, but I see that most of you guys have RAM more than 4gb. Can it be related with the game keeps crashing. I'm asking because my game works fine yesterday and even before that with only 2gb of RAM, today I add in another 2gb the game keeps crashing at different interval after a few minutes of playing. I'm using Intel Q6600 with Window XP SP3 with 8800GT. It's kind of late already here so I would test this tomorrow. It's a longshot but kind of hoping that it would work because this really spoils the mood to play if it keeps crashing.

I have read through most of the pages, and damn guys this sucks. I personally haven't experienced any crashes or sound glitches, it runs fine for me but I feel for you all because this game rocks.

One thing I haven't seen is anyone checking for BIOS updates for your motherboards. I updated all my drivers before installing the game and as I said haven't had a issue. Maybe give that a try?

My specs
AMD M2N-E
AMD 6400 Black 3.2ghz
4 gigs Ram
ATI 4890
WD Raptor 150gig
Windows 7

I can no longer play ANY games that require DirectX rendering. I've been looking through error logs in hopes of finding the culplrit, and while heat is not excluded - irreversable dmg to the GPU is likely at this point. A few even more tech savy friends suggest that the issue has something to do with the driver not working properly with Windows and that the fault is on the DirectX side of the files. Reinstalling DirectX is inherently difficult.

My friends who have experienced simmilar problems suggested a full Windows reinstall.

More information about the Error logs:

So far I would suggest to not play ME2 until the issue is resolved. Playing ME2 only seemed to make the problem worse. Gradually, but worse.

Mromson is right. At first I could play the game, then I got crashes around every 5 min, now I cant even play at all.

ME2 messes with your computer the more you try <.<

I have to agree with you there.  Ever since I installed the game, my computer has been running very slowly and crashing even when I'm not playing the game.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Just been struggling with ME2 so far. When I get Bioshock2 I get to see if it is truly just ME2 though.  Hopefully Bioware will get something in motion before Bioshock comes out.

I had a few crashes here and there and my old video card bricked. But after I got a new one everything has been running ok with the exception of ME2 which last time I tired it crashed my PC. I'm not touching another EA or Bioware game untill these condtion are met.

1. EA and Bioware acknolwdge pubilicly how messed up this game is.
2. Fix the problem or if they are unable to do this recall the PC version.
3. Apolgoize publicily.

Thats not asking to much, especially considering how horribly this is messing peoples systems.

Hehe, I found EA's coroparte phone number. 650-628-1500 I'm going to give them a call tommorow if I get the chance.

Well let's not take out the pitchforks here <.<; The only thing I really want from Bioware at this point is sign of life and that they are acually working on the problem.

They havent even stikied the thread. EA is just shooting automated reply emails to our tech soppurt tickets. I'm not seeing signs of life here.

A few suggestions to throw out there:

- Ensure your video card drivers are updated.

- Ensure your sound card drivers are updated.

- Ensure you aren't running an anti virus.

- If you received any errors during install, try a reinstall.

- Make sure your video card can support the level of detail you've selected. I guess a general way to put this is to put quality on low and see how the game plays.

The slightest problem can fudge your entire game.

If you are getting blue screens, then something is messed up with your computer and not the game. If you can, try to catch the error message displayed.

Yeah, I agree, I just want Bioware to acknowledge that they are aware that this problem exists and that they plan to fix it with a patch or whatever.  Maybe we all are in the minority here with this problem, but we spent $50 just like everyone else and deserve to have this problem resolved like the other problems they are working to fix.

Hey, your suggestions are things which nearly  everyone tried before. These are things everyone should know. I tried everything and the game does not work. This is a matter of fact. And I have a new PC and I had no crashes until I tried to play Mass Effect 2. I have played Dragon Age Origins over 70 hours without a problem before. Do you really think that all this users here have a damaged PC? Come on...

My entire PC dies without any error message during the game. I checked all logs. No messages! The game causes my PC to crash! And Bioware is not able to pay any attention to this thread. This makes me really angry!

I think it's a little misleading to say 'if you are getting blue screens, then something is messed up with your computer and not the game'. It's fair to say that if your PC works fine normally, but crashes when you run a particular program, it's likely to be caused by the way that program interacts with your PC's configuration. Based on the responses in this thread and the other threads about crashing, Mass Effect 2 is having some sort of adverse effect on display drivers (note I could have called it an adverse mass effect, but I restrained myself). Given the variety of systems and setups on which the crashes are occurring, the only common denominator looks to be Mass Effect 2, so it seems reasonable to focus on that as the cause.

Unfortunately, I did manage to play for an extended period this afternoon, but only by inventing my own Mass Effect 2, GPU-temperature mini-game. This involved having a GPU temp. monitor (SensorsView Pro 3.2) open alongside my Mass Effect 2 window and whenever it threatened to rise above 65 degrees C, I escaped to the options screen, which taxes the GPU far less and lets it rapidly cool down.

While hitting 66 degrees C seemed to be the magic, crash-inducing temperature for a time, while stuck in a conversation I didn't want to escape out of, the temperature got up to 70 and everything remained fine. As it should, given nVidia say my chip - 9600GT - should handle up to 105 degrees C.

This was all done with graphics options turned off. As further research, I then put all the options back on, resolution up to full, opened up the case and stuck an extra fan pointing at the graphics card. This also worked fine.

When I just tried playing again a few minutes ago, without the extra fan and while tediously searching for minerals on a planet (which I'm sure can't tax my GPU that heavily compared to other in-game action), the game crashed after less than five minutes.

I'm afraid I can't provide any error reports, because the crashes lock up the whole PC, so there's no opportunity for Windows XP to throw up an error message or write an error log.

Like Andinin said, I have also played Dragon Age for more playthroughs than I care to count with absolutely no problems ever.  No crashes, no repetitive audio loops, nothing.  I never had any problems with my pc until I installed ME2.

I have the same issue. I can play for 5 minutes, maybe more, before the crash hits. No warning, nothing. Just the black screen. This is brand new install of XP too, so I doubt the problems on my end.

So, I think i 'might' possibly have fixed it. I pointed a fan at my case, which brought the ambient temperatures down a little. I just got through a 30 minute session, with NO crashes. Hopefully, it was just a slight heat issue, and the problems won't return. "Knocks on Wood".

Mr Luga,

Please install the free app, Furmark, run it and see if your system remains stable, and does not show any artifacting.
