I kind of got a policy against installing random things and let it check up on my computer when I dont know what it is, and it is from a random stranger online :P

How did you fix it?

Äh, Return to Ostagar is the new DLC from Dragon Age Origins and has nothing to do with Mass Effect 2. But this is another proof, that not my PC is the problem. The problem with Mass Effect 2  is still alive. My entire system still crashes every 5-10 minutes during gameplay. Sorry guys, I wish I would have a solution for this but we still have to wait for a patch. I think there is no other way:(

So, I think i 'might' possibly have fixed it. I pointed a fan at my case, which brought the ambient temperatures down a little. I just got through a 30 minute session, with NO crashes. Hopefully, it was just a slight heat issue, and the problems won't return. "Knocks on Wood".

Mmmh, but why would cause this game such heat problems? I used the default video settings for the game after a system scan from the game. I also tried to play it with most graphic settings turned down. Still have the problem. One time it crashed after 2 minutes. I think 2 minutes are not long enough to cause any problems with the temperature. And as I said before. Currently I play the DLC from Dragon Age Origins on my PC and this also causes no problems and the whole video settings are at max.

ME1 runs perfect maxed out as well as many much newer and demanding games. But ME2 keeps crashing at random spots, first the colors go all preadator vision style then if i dont exit the game right away it will lock my computer completely. Ive tried everything i can think of no dvd fix just incase its my store bought special edition disk. Ive turned down the graphics, i tried to load all the newests drivers but i already had them. I tested everything and even did DXdiag just incase it was direct X. Heat sounds like a possibility like some mentioned because sometimes i get 30 mins and if i try to play right after crashing i get like 5 mins. Any ideas? im well within the system recommendations.

In my case it happens a bit less frequently. Mostly after a 30 minutes of playtime. My grapjic is GeForce 9800 GT. Maybe the problem is in the Nvidia drivers or something? That would explain the issue happening on Nvidia cards, not mentioning the type of a card.

It really is annoying. I did complete the game once, and it happened to me only a few times ( maybe 3 ). But now it is really pissing me off.

My specs:

Intel Core Quad Q9200 2,66 GHz

GeForce 9800 GT

4 GB Ram

all other much above the recommended settings ^^

It seems to me that there is no distinction on whether the error is happening between digital download games and cds. I have the dd version of ME2 and it still crashes my system.

Hi guys,

Have been experiencing the same black screen issues like everyone else. I'm using 2 ATI HD 4850s on crossfireX configuration on windowsXP. Updated my catalyst drivers to 10.1 AND under ATI Overdrive settings Enabled Manual Fan Control to 100% for each card. Playing ME2 has been pretty much stable since then. I guess nvidia card owners could try the same thing and max out their fan speeds as its clearly an overheating issue.

Just my 2 cents.

How do you increase fan speed? I never tweak things like that becouse it feels like it's something I would do to completely destroy my computer :P

Where is EA? Where is Bioware? I think they are deliberately ignoring the issue.

Great the problem has spread.. Now my computer froze up in the same way it did with ME2 without acually launching the game. Seems ME2 broke my computer.

my gpu temps stayed in 70 celsius with normal fanspeed which shouldn't be a problem but still ME2 kept crashing. BUT for some reason, after i raised fanspeed to 100% game started working like a charm. :) hellava noise of course but at least it works  :wizard:

OK, it seems the game has a bug somewhere but I do not think it can damage your pc/hardware. It is only software. But maybe it can influence your drivers. Maybe you have to reinstall some drivers (graphic card, ...). After that your system should work fine again. You can only get a hardware damage if there is really a problem with the temperature. The hint with the fan control is really good!! Everyone should test this, if possible.

Tomorrow I will try to play the game with the changed settings for the fan control. Also I want to try a reinstallation of my graphic drivers without the check of the driver signature during the installation. This can also cause some problem if the system could not detect any driver signature. Enclosed you find the link how you can do this:

http://www.ngohq.com...e.php?page=dseo

During the game my Virusscan was active. I also will disable him for the test. This can also cause trouble. But these are my last ideas. I hope this will work.

Ok. So I increased my fan speed which seems to have fixed the issue at least temporarily. I believe that the Mass Effect 2 directx codex is what is causing the issue. I believe that directx is the issue as I have other games that this is affecting.

I have a similar problem. Fortunately I could complete the game without any problem (over 20hours of playtime Oo). But since Yesterday if I try to resume my old game or start a new one my Screens turns into a Pixel Pudding.
When I started a new game though I could play for ~ 15-20 minutes. If I resume my old game I can only play for about 5minutes.

My Specs:

AMD X2 3800+
Geforce Nvidia 7800GTX - driver nv4_disp.dll 196.21 [6.14.11.9621]
2,5 Gig of Ram

Windows XP, service pack 3

yeah, my temps are around 56 with the fan on. They were pushing 62 without it. I can't imagine that makes that much of a difference.

I just bought the game and have been experiencing an app crash as well every so often. It seems I can only go for 10-20 min max without a crash. Then w/out restarting it happens every 5, If I do restart the system it goes back to 10-20. This didn't start happening until Archangel. Before that everything was completely fine.

Hey guys,

I found another thread about this problem and he is very helpful to understand the problem. He do not solve the problem, but we nearly know what is the reason for our crashes.

Ok guys,

One more thing to do to get more stable gameplay, besides maxing out your vid card fan speeds, set to lower resolutions while playing. I get more crashes with 1920x1080 since its heavier on the vid card, however I get no crashes (5 hours of playing so far non stop) with 1280x720.

Pretty weird i know since ME2 aint as heavy as Crysis.
