Hello Bioware,

I've just bought my very own copy (retail) of Mass Effect 2 (PC). Installed the game without any errors, but when I actually started the game, and got the intro scene, there were no voices to be heard, because the background music was too loud. I then referred to the sound options menu, to set all sound effects and background music to 10%, with dialogue (voices) on 100%. Even now, the voice acting during scenes is hard to hear, and hard to distinguish because of the clankiness of the voices ('t sounds like people are speaking in a room with walls of metal), and sometimes you can't hear voices at all. I'm at a loss of thought. HELP!

i had this problem myself...but i doubt my fix will help you.

i have an x-fi soundcard. i was playing late at night so i set it for headphones. next day i tried to play with my regular 5.1 surround and it sounded exactly how you describe.

i had forgotten to reset it to 5.1 and it was still on headphones.

I had the same problem (5.1 sound system with low voice volume). I solved it by un-checking "Center/LFE Swap" AND "Speaker Fill" on my VIA HD Audio Deck control panel. It appears the Center channel signal (voice) was going to the subwoofer (LFE = low frequency effect). Speaker Fill also needs to be un-checked.

I don't know if this is causing the low voice volume problems with Realtek HD audio drivers, but maybe it's worth a try. I have no idea how to navigate the Realtek HD GUI to find these setting.
