Reposting this in the Xbox area, I put it under PC earlier by mistake.

I was doing Thanes loyalty mission to tail his son before the assassination attempt.  During the inner bar area I was pre opening doors to make sure I kept him in sight, I did this on the upstairs door inside the blue roomed area of the club where the body guard talks to his 2 Krogan buddies.  The door opened and immediatley I was in a cutscene with a human asking what I was doing, I took the paragan voice path instead of clocking him, and told him I was pest or food inspector.

he said go on in and that was the end of the cutscene, my mark was not yet advanced this far, he was still talking to the Krogans so I ran back out to get a look.  Well, the door shut behind me and locked, and all I could do from that point on was "examine" the shut door as the mark walked away and Thane shouting at me the whole time that he was getting away.

I ended up failing the loyalty mission, which again annoys me greatly due to no way to restart this without reverting to a 3-4 hour old save game. (i.e. my entire night of playing becomign erased and redone.)

I feel this is a bug, if the door locks as soon as you enter and you can finish the mission fine...but don't let me literally walk out and then lock behind me and fail the mission due to the inability to reopen a stupid door.   The door was not even locked to begin with, why would you lock it after i open it?

It's gotta be a bug.

most players by this point wouldnt need to turn back, which would be why the door is a one time open deal.

I would guess that bugs are not usually found by what the majority of players normally do. However,  I don't feel this particular thread is an open forum to critique my play-style and/or choices.

What I'm doing is reporting a [possible] bug in the technical forums. Unless you designed the mission, or worked on the game, then this thread isn't really for you.

But thanks for your point of view in the matter I suppose.

Same thing happened to me.... you're gonna kick your self. You went out the way you came in, if you can restart it, after the vid, get your barings then go.

Something perculiar is happening to me right now, everytime I go through the door with that guy asking you what you are doing the game glitches after dialog, unable to move, can hear Thane still talking, Shepard is not able to move and cannot access menu, have to exit to dashboard. :(

This issue is not a case of me not having my bearings, it is a case of being locked out of a room that really has no reason to lock me out of, and cauing a player to automatically fail a loyalty mission.

I knew where the mark was (in the blue room outside the room I was in.) literally 5 feet below me in sight.

I skipped the attempt to redo this mission as I said earlier due to it being 4 hours into my last manual save game, and there was no "redo" or autosave reload option to try this mission again.

Sounds like a seperate issue, and not something related to my original bug submission.

Thereare two exits the one you came in, and the one you need, if you go out the one you came in through in locks and won't reopen so you have to redo.

If I understand you properly then yes, I agree and can confirm this happens, the door does lock once you enter that area and leave.

That is entirely the reason I am submitting this as a bug.

Just did this mission now, and got the frozen Shepherd in the back room bug and had to exit to the dashboard as well. Will retry it a couple of different ways.

This bug is not the same one you are talking about a_pelter. :) though if you are going to retry, feel free to open that door, pick the paragon option then walk out and see what happens.

I think what that other guy meant about you kicking yourself is that you didn't need to reload a 4 hour old save. You could have just restarted the mission or loaded an autosave. On the load screen, there's an option to Restart the last mission you started, and below that is the Autosave slot, which the game refreshes quite often. At the worst, you would have been taken back to the last time you used the galaxy map, which presumably would have been when you docked at the Citadel to start the mission.

Unless you have the autosave turned off. Which I can't fathom a reason for, but if you have, then I guess you should be kicking yourself even more. I don't know if having the autosave off gets rid of the "Restart Mission" option though - I can't see that it would.

But yeah, having the door lock you out is probably a bug. They never intended you to run back out of the room, presumably it just never came up in testing.

You don't fail this mission similar to dying, where you can simply restart. You get the cutscene and then it autosaves with it failing.

In response to the origional post: you're able to press 'start' then 'load' then 'restart mission.' Same as any other mission.

But the back room glitch has happened to me multiple times in a row and is getting annoying.

acannibaltaco, you cannot reload/restart this mission if you fail it due to this bug, as it autosaves you right after the movie showing your going to fail. (and then the mission is over.)

This happened before I did that, and does not change the fact this is a bug.  Please stop suggesting I play the game differenty based on the fact it doesn't work logically.

As a matter of fact this isn't a forum for debate, I'm simply reporting a bug.  Thats all this post is meant to do.

I have a similar problem where I report to thane open the door, and if I don't take the renegade interrupt any choice in dialogue will result in me seeing the door locking  with my shep on the other side while thane keeps yelling at me, I can't control shepard and I can't even open up the menu to load, I have to go to dashboard and restart the game.

Edit: on Xbox360

(Disclaimer: Mass Effect 2 PC gamer here)

After doing Thane's mission completely on one playthrough, I figured that I could just rush through half of it without failing the next few times.

When Jorim Talid and his bodyguard get to the "AQUILA" store, I update Thane one more time and run towards the club, into the stock room, Paragon or punch the worker (depending on my character) and run to the door on the far right, never even bothering to look back at the mark. The door at the end of the short hallway automatically activates the successful cutscene (I don't know if that's the case on XBox 360). The Aquila store and that door is just enough distance that Thane won't automatically end the mission.

It's a nice shortcut, one that I should probably post on a shortcut thread.
