I'm curious. Is anyone playing ME2 from scratch? Not importing any Shepard from an ME1 game?

I switched from an ME1 imported Soldier that continued as a Soldier to a from scratch Engineer who is much more fun then the clip-hunting Soldier.
Don't like the decisions the game made for what 'happened' in ME1 with the from scratch char but eh, just will re-import the ME1 char and turn that into an Adept next playthough.

Yes, I'm doing one right now on the PC. Somehow I remember people saying that you would be able to establish what happened in ME1 in a kind of QA session. 40 hours in and I'm not seeing it (except for a bit after the encounter on Horizon). I really don't like the decissions that BioWare decided to make canon.
Next playthrough will be an imported character.

I am, I erased my save from ME1 long ago and Im a little upset about it because I would have liked to see how the choices I made thread together in this one. But Im seeing the things Bioware has done to make sure you have some input on what you may have done in ME1.

I still think more should be done to give the player more control over their story regardless of import. Yes, the import feature is nice and we all enjoy it very much, but I dont like being forced to do speed runs through an old game just to make sure wrex is alive or the council isnt dead. It's very frustrating and I really hope Bioware does something about it.

No import goes for the renegade desions. Killing Wrex, Council dead, Udina is counciller, etc. They are all the most jerkish decisions. These are the worst desicions ever. Glad I imported. I hope the default save for ME3 is full paragon on both ME1 and ME2!!

After my first playthrough with my imported Solider, I made a female Sentinel.

Starting a ME2 playtrough from scratch is like this, all the decisions is based on the renegade path and - more important - the "scorched earth scenario": everyone is dead or as if you don't talked to them in the first game.
You don't encounter any previous characters, including the e-mails.
I confess that I feeled a bit lost, it was like the first one didn't happened.
I was looking for a more challenging experience than playing on insanity, that's why I started this playtrough.
If you want this, I recommend that you import a ME2 game on insanity or hardcore.
You start in level 30, with your powers configured from the game you import (pay attention to this before importing) and all the weapons from that playtrough. But the enemies are also in level 30, your weapons and tech/biotic don't have any upgrades, you receive only the long service bonus (200.000 credits and 50.000 of each minerals) and your paragon/renegade start with zero points.
A simple mech can kick your a** if you don't take care.
Until you pick those upgrades that gives 30%, you'll suffer a lot of pain (and possibly deaths).

The way I look at it, the pre-selected choices are ones that resemble choices a person from Cerberus would have made.

Playing a non-imported game is very disappointing after playing an import. You just realize how much less story there is. Missing out on the reappearances (or even the emails) is really stupid.
Not being able to make different choices is a major let down too.

I also thought there would some scene (early on) in the game where you can chose the important ME1 decisions, as we were told somewhere.
That's why I am quick-running through ME1 to create my own canon Shepards and start my ME2 career from scratch. Planned are 5 different Shepards, two are done so far in the last four days.

My first ME2 run through was a no import one. I found the decisions to be lifeless and empty, so I stole my Brother's ME1 disc. After I made a perfect Paragon run, ME2 was much funner.

Bioware looks to have taken the stance that no import = haven't played ME1, so characters like Wrex, Conrad Verner and the Council would have no significance to you.

Nah, I found it easier just to go through ME1 on 'casual' for the story/decisions. Did the Cerebus side quests and a couple others in maybe 8 hours?
