I'm trying to get a sense of whether Fortification is worth having as a power instead of Barrier in ME2. Looking at the two, they have identical stats, but Barrier is eligible for biotic cooldown bonuses, and it's described as boosting "shields" while the other is described as boosting "armor." Does this mean that the bonus you get from Fortification may take longer to cool down, but is vulnerable to ammo that damages armor rather than ammo that damages shields? (Given that I have yet to fight someone with a sniper rifle, that makes me wonder if more bad guys simply carry shield-damaging ammo...)

I am wondering the same thing right now. Maybe Fortification increases the amount of absorbed damage when your shields are down until you take direct damage to your health.

The boost amount is determined by a percentage of your shields for both powers but it doesn't neccessarily mean they both boost your shields rather (as the text says) one does so for armor and one for shields.

I think I'm gonna try Barrier for a change.

Both Barrier and Fortification are identical from a mechanics point of view (along all ranks and evolutions). The only thing different is the ability art.

What about Tech Armor and Barrier and/or Fortification? Overkill, or would it all work together?

Tech Armor and Barrier/Fortfication don't stack.

thats not true. if you activate your tech armor and check your shield status (esc -> squad) and then activate barrier or fortification you will see the shield has been raised.

I really wonder if there is something like armor for player characters. You are never able to see the amount of armor you have and if you activate fortification its the shield amount that gets boosted. Same for barrier.

Well.. I prefer Barrier because Fortification gives you up to twice as much as shield as you already have. Barrier is a second shield so you can either use it to to boost your shield or as i recommend using it when your original shield is down so while your shield regenerates Barrier protects you.

The one I go with depends on my class. I dislike putting biotic abilities on a non-biotic class - it's the roleplayer in me I suppose.

I'll never understand forum mentality. If you bring up an old topic, that's a bad thing. If you make a new topic about something that's already been mentioned, that's a bad thing. There's no right way to go about it. It really is stupid and these attitudes aren't helpful.
