I restarted after a few hours and am now playing a sentinel. I love it! The tech armor is great (although it would have been better on a close combat specialist like the vanguard) and you have access to the awesomeness of overload plus biotic powers. It may not be the flashiest class, but it is, in my opinion, one of the most effective. Been playing it for about 9 hours and have only died once.

Played through about 9 levels with a Sentinel, and I love that class. Unlike most classes, it doesn't seem like there are any redundant or useless talents, so it's incredibly hard to decide where to spend points. I strapped on some warp ammo as a bonus talent and I can take on any type of enemy in the game without worrying about what defenses it has.
Played some with a Vanguard, it's fun but not too powerful. Charge is only useful in certain scenarios, but it's quite fun when you get to use it.
Played the first 2 levels with infiltrator, not sure I like it. cloak only increases 1/2 second with every rank? Seems like a 1 point wonder to me. And AI hacking is too situational to put many points in it.

I played with a Vanguard, and while charge was a lot of fun, it just wasn't as useful as it could have been. You pretty much charge in do decent damage and then try to run away to cover as fast as possible. I died alot.

That's my only issue with the Sentinel so far. Why wasn't the guy with Tek armor given a shotgun? It's probably asking for too much though. Strange how my utility knife Sentinel from ME1 became a defensive powerhous in ME2.

Umm.. in ME1 the Sentinel was still the defensive powerhouse. With Electronics and Barrier the Sentinel was almost untouchable. I'm fairly certain that if I tried I could do an ME1 playthrough with a Sentinel and only take shield damage through the entire game, no health damage at all. The only hard part to that is fighting the Rachni, they have shield bypassing attacks.Drakist wrote...

The Tech armor has always seemed natural to what has always been the most defensivly strong class in Mass Effect.

Soldier have so much health it is not even funny and Insanity was easy with this class.
Infiltrator rocks, the sniper damage is beyond godlike

I did all of that too, but a lot of the powers didn't require you to have high ranks to be effective. The passive shield bonus of Electronics was amazing, plus it gave you enough overload to make anyshields cry. Barrier was more for when a firefight started going wrong, it gives you that extra boost to get someplace safe.Drakist wrote...
I suppose I played my Sentinel in a more aggressive manner. Disabling shields, Disabling weapons, Throwing, Stasis, and lifting enemies while my party shot 'em to bits. I always saw my Sentinel as a utility knife, I guess opinions vary.
The sentinel never was one for charging in, it was just tough enough that you could afford to make more daring moves to get at the enemy.
In ME2 I'm just happy that the tech armor gives me more room to work with so that a little mistake doesn't get me killed. Always having acces to the right move to take down an enemy is also really nice, opens up my party options so I can feel safe what ever party members I want rather than the ones that will bemost effective or cover my weaknesses.
