This is however a different kind of black screen than the ones that other people have reported. When I get into the game, I enter Newgame --> Import character --> Successfull loading screen --> The menu where I can review the key plotlines I chose in the previous game --> I press continue --> Black screen!
All I get is a black screen, but I can hear shots f.x when I press the mousebutton and enter the menu perfectly fine by pressing escape - The only thing I cant see is the actual game :S. (And I thought I was supposed to get a cinematic at that point, and not actual gameplay?)

So far ive tried:
- Turning on/off that codec ffdshadow thing
- Turning antivirus off
- Running as adminstrator
- Updating drivers
- Updating Directx

I can run dragon age perfectly fine, and since its requirements are very similar to ME2, I dont think it has something to do with my hardware at least.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

You've tried everything I recommend except reinstalling the game or changing your display settings until one works. It's possible that reinstalling might fix it, as you simply have a bad file somewhere.



Otherwise, it's some other kind of display setting in the game. I can't think of what it would be to pinpoint it, though.

OK, problem is solved. Cant believe laziness blocked me from playing, thx Tonhylozoist, for encouraging me to reinstall

hahaha... Oh man this sucks... I tried everything on this list, even reinstalled once but it didn't work, so I deleted everything, including my saves... And now I hear that reinstalling actually works. :S



Well... I just have to play ME1 trough couple of more times before importing to ME2.

I hade the exact same problem (never tried dragonage though).

I had a second HDMI cable connected to a TV, and my computer outputted it to the TV when connected. I simply disconnected the TV and stayed left with one active output, and everything works well.

I have windows 7 64bit, 8gb mem, AMD Phenom 940, AMD ATI 4870x2 grpx card.

Experienced the exact same thing as you...and tried the same things...i will try uninstalling and reinstalling this evening...too bad it was a pain in the **** enough just trying to install it the first time...would freeze up during installation 3x...

I get the same problem but i get it when i try to land into illium. I've tried reinstalling the game but nothing has changed... could somebody help?

Intel Core2 Duo E8400

4gb ram

windows XP



I suppose there should be a cutscene when landing but all i get is a black screen after picking my party members and configuring the loadout. I can shoot, walk around and access the menu with esc, but all i can see is a black screen.
