Put all of your ranged characters on the rocks. I cannot stress this enough. Tentacles can't attack people on rock.

This took me about three tries before my wife realized that was the case...

To beat the brood mother on nightmare difficulty, follow these 2 simple steps:

1. Place Michael Moore in front of your party. The brood mother will think she is looking into a mirror, and attempt to turn around. Cue hacking, slashing, and burning.

2. As a last resort, feed rosie o'donald to the brood mother. The brood mother will immediately weaken and die.

3. Feed George W. Bush to the brood mother. Some taint is so foul even a darkspawn cannot stand it.

4. Disguise yourself as a darkspawn in order to vote for Obama as president of the darkspawn. In days, the darkspawn will become communistic, and start to stagnate. The ensuing horrible quality of healthcare should do in the broodmother eventually.
WARNING: This option is only for the most evil characters, or who REALLY despise the darkspawn.

*LOL* Obviously we shouldn't discuss politics, it would get ugh-leee! ;)

Yeah, talking politics tends to get that way... sadly... :/

Either way we are way off-topic. Back to Killing Broodies 101! ;)

Ahhh I forgot mah disclaimer again: All names and references carry no relation to real life politics and are incidental.

But agreed, back to killing broodies :P

I found that casting inferno and having morrigan cast blizzard+tempest worked VERY well, since the BM is extremely stationary.

I myself am at TWO people triple-injured, no health poultices, no elfroot, no injury kits, and nobody able to heal injuries.

I've gotta backtrack all the way out of here and go to camp, don't I?

Here's the easy way to do it:

Using 2x DW warrior/rogues along with a mage with death hex. One death hex will cause all hits to be crits, with your 2x warrior/rogues they will rip through her health in seconds, ignore tentacles and adds just burn her down, shouldn't take longer than about 10s unless she gets her AE stun off(which you can prevent if you follow your death hex by a paralyze, horror, crushing prison or blood wound).

1. Ignore tentacles and focus on other mobs when the mobs spawn. When tentacles teleport to you, kill them.
2. after tentacles are dead, seperate your party and place your tank in front away from any other melee (she should hit him with her ******)
3. slowly auto-shoot them queen down till she spawns more adds (it's percentage based), spend this time trying to recover mana/stam/health if possible.

after about 4-5 cycles it'll be over, it's strictly a control fight.

I never tried putting range on the rocks, but I might do it next time.

this comes closest to what i did.
just keep your lower health characters on the rocks and let them ignore the tentacles because they're not really that damaging because they can't grab you and they're not as easy to damage as the brood mother itself. if you have some strong aoe's an enough potions use it from there on the broodmother and you'll also get rid of some tentacles, if not just use ranged attacks. when there's an opening in front of the brood mother: jump in with your strong melees and start punching the broodmother. at this point those tentacles might grab them from time to time so keep them together to help eachother. when darkspawn spaws: regroup to deal with them. rince and repeat.
i also noticed that there are 2 stone pathways besides the broodmother after the fight. i'm not sure though whether they are options for tactics or not.

Hide in the corner and use ranged on the broodmother. If you have any nature-protection, use that it will lessen her acid spit. When the darkspawn/tentacles appear, kill them off asap

Took me about 45minutes on Nightmare ;_; First try though =)

Bring ranged people. I did it with my warrior tanking and had Morrigan and Leliana along for DPS and Wynne healing. Trick is to make darn sure you hit the "hold" button, so your partymembers don't go running off in all directions - I kept them spread out near the back of the chamber. Don't bother running in with any melee to start with, just hang back, wait for the tentacles to spawn and then DPS them down. Then have everyone target the Broodmother and hack away until she sends up a new set of tentacles. Repeat, and watch for adds until dead - three phases usually does it.

I had Morrigan and my mage character cast powerful area spells centered on the Brood mother, kept Rogue and Warrior back to fight off any mobile enemies that showed up. Ignored the tentacles except to move away from them - they all die when the Broodmother does

Piece of Cake!

Just keep a very close eye on everybodies health:)

Alright, I took my personal advice (exiting and walking all-the-way back) and actually had to buy Cleansing Aura (so to speak) to have it with me, but I ended up not needing it in the slightest until making my way into the Anvil.

And truth be told, that first Gauntlet bit was actually such an epic win, such a glorious snatch of victory from the jaws of defeat, that I named the following save EPICWIN.  (Yeah, your healer going down early and your tank not having the stamina to do anything but snipe longrange while your rogue ever-so-slowly catches her breath... FULL of win.  Exhausted me though.  Must rest.)

My strategy on Hard:

Team: Duelist Rogue, Shayle, Morrigan, Wynne

Shayle was on his support routine where he becomes a statue not moving giving bonuses to the team and weaking nearby enemies. Morrigan does all the heavy damage at the Broodmother with wynne acting as a battery. My duelist was being defensive garding everyone, pretty strong lvl 15 with plenty of poisons and bombs.

When tentacles attacked, I focused my rogue and morrigan on them. When darkspawn came in I would put Shayle on attack mode if things got overwhelming. I only attacked the broodmother when the waves of tentacles and darkspawn were over. There's only 2 waves I think. Again Morrigan was doing most of the work, Shayle buffed her and Wynne gave her energy. My rogue just threw the remaining grenades and then used archery.

I tried using a full tank warrior team before but they got masacred. It's better to kill the broodmother by distances than be upclose where you're vulnerible from most of her attacks be it grabing you, swiping you, or vomiting on you.

Force field leaves you enough time to deal with the cannon fodder as well as the tentacles. No problem. It's not less sophisticated a tactic as shooting her from a place she can't reach.

on nightmare i just go hah and have wynne set as super healer and then i use myself (human warrior templar/berserker) to attack the tentacles while downing health potions, and oghren and (using ageless or yusaris and in dwarf legion of the dead armour) helps me and then leliana who is using her char specific weapon then procedes to use arrow of slaying and then provide back up to me.....stick near wynne use cleansing aura/vessal of the spirit and kill all darklspwn who coem at you after a bit of damage to the broodmother herself....oh and if you have got petrify for wynne use it.

Inferno + Tempest + Blizzard, with everyone back on the rocks and using ranged weapons on her. Easiest boss fight ever, though I admit my strategy was tremendously cheap.

Did the same. Morrigan used her area spells, while the tanks surrounded her on the rock and only attacked those who came too close. Didn't have much of a trouble.

I just ran up the ramp behind her and AOE'ed her... cast, retreat, rinse repeat, worked both time with magic in normal and hard. On my current play through I couldn't be bothered with the long battle, so I just went the easy mode option for an effortless win dpsing and moved on.

It was a tough battle, but I defeated the ten-titted menace the same way I beat all bosses.

I sent wave after wave of my own men at it until it was crushed under the weight of corpses.

I had my tank PC on her + Sten the hole time. Then I had Lelianna and Morrigan DPS tenticles and healing when needed. When the adds came in I took my pc and Sten off her and cleared them out. Rinse&repeat.

I simply stood on the solid area in front of her. Had all of my characters use range weapons except Shale who took care of the darkspawn and when possible hurled a rock. You can also set Shale to Rock Aura to increase everyones defense.

I put Morrigan and Liliana(iced arrows) on the mother and killed the darkspawn and tentacles with my main(dual warrior) and alistair - worked the second time through. Oh - also had Morrigan cast a death cloud on the mother.
