It must have to do something with Windows7 64 bit.
I have 2 computers almost simulair. Both have same Firewall and Virusscanner. Both have same programs installed..Both Use same Modem/router

1 is a winXp Machine the otherone is a win7 64 bit.
I have a bought DVD on Mass effect 2 from Ea classics including Cerberus arc, Cerberus wpn Armor, Normandy Crash , Zaeed and Hammerhead.
I did reg the game on this Forum and on my contents i can download the dlc's So no problem sofar at all!
BUT...........
On the win 7 machine i cannot connect to cerberus network to activate the DLC's it keeps telling me i have to be connected to internet.. same goes for ea onlinestore : I get the message you have to be connected to Internet..

So i did install the game again to the winXP machine.. ( from the same dvd's) with installing the same 5 DLC's and patch 1.02...
On the win XP machine i got a message about connecting to cerberus network and could give my emailadres and pasword and the dlc's are activated!

On the win7 machine i do not get it But i used exactly the same dvd's and install and installation of the dlc's

After staring on the XP machine it was no problem at all to connect to cerberus network and activate .. On the win 7 machine a connection to Cerberus is impossible! It keeps telling me i have to be connected to Internet.

So something on win7 is Blocking to see the internet connection.! I dont know waht.. its not the Firewall , its not the Virus scanner, its not the windows Firewall.. so maybe it is the win 64 bit system that is blocking it.

On the win 7 machine i downloaded and installed a Crack to activate the DLC things and that does work! and the game runs perfect. The Journal also regognized all the dlc's exept hammerhead.

But the game does run very well.
So the game and the dlc and the update is not conflicting with win7..
win 7 blocks something to be able to connect to cerberus...

Maybe this could be a help to solve the problem.

I do have a question do.. as i installed On the XP machine and activated and registered the DLC's and are accepted.. can i import that setting somewere to the win7 machine?

I would like to try out my self but i dont have time.. i must go to work.

Take Care
Greetings from trhe netherlands

Ow i tried to run ME as admin in a xp modus on the win7 machine .. No effect still unable to connect to cerberus..

same message : You have to be connected to internet.

I see that there are many posters here with problems.. I know this is a forum from gamers to gamers.. and i se the the problems are here over more as 1 year.. It is not up tro us to solve.. as we try so much because we want to play the game!

It is to EA and bioware to solve it.. but as far as i know and seen and read not much is done to solve.

so again!
to Bioware and Ea
Win7 (64bit) Users CANNOT CONNECT in game to cerberus and so cant activate the DLC they bought!...

a simple crack on internet does do it OK! so if you dont want to loose your customars take care of this situation asap!. ( besides that it is crazy that a simple torrent download does work and the official $$$ downloads dont work!)

OOps before i go:

Some Mod must create a sticky about:
I cannot connect to cerberus network in the game! There are so many topics about it already and so many ppl all have the same problem! It wont surprise me that they are all win7 64 bit version users.

Please make a sticky on this.. as it is is now there is way to much info on way to many topics.
Thank You

@Palidine: Steam does not actually finalise the installation of any product until you try and run it, and as a ersult of that, vital registry entries are not written. With Steam, you need to download, install, run the game once, then install the DLC.

@Emphyr: Think logically. If XP connects ok, but Win7 doesnt, what does that mean? Something in Win7 is causnig the problem. This very same problem which occurs in Windows Vista as well, has been investigated, and resolved, with the solution to your problem benig spelt out clearly in the Tech FAQ stickied at the top of the forum. Perhaps ifyou had read that first, instead of going along and blaming others for your choice of operating systems, you might not have had to go alnog and resort to using pirate tools to get your game working.

@bogsnot1

Hold on : I did read the Teq and i did read a lot of topics about the problem. I did follow some of the solutions ( "netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled" ) and more such as try the game without firewall and virusscanner) mark some things in Netframe and more in my case it all did not help.

I am not blaming anyone. I just noticed as i said that i have 2 computers with almost everything exactly the same on it. They both use the same Modem and Firewall and antivir.

I thought logically that is why i posted my remarks. and as i said something in my win7 64 bits blocks the internetconnection on EA store and Cerberus network. If i click in the game on Website ore downloadle contest it connects. Personally i never use hacktools ore cracks as i consider it very dangerous ! many malware and virus. I just tried and it works , I already disinstalled it.

I was just trying to help and the question remains.. Why cant the setup in win7 not connect and same game with same setup from the same Dvd's with the same key in win XP does connect...

I am not a PC operating system expert , i just mailed what i found out on my 2 computers and thought it could help : Thats all.
have a nice day

and i dont like the way you are responding Bogsnot1. I dont want to begin flaming but you'r remarks are not exactly friendly and helpful :)

Is there a way to import the registered DLC's from the XP system to the win 7 system?

I will try what happens if i just copy the game files from the XP system to the win 7 system and see if that works.. But i have to go to work first.

Have a nice day

DLC's are registered to the account, not to the computer system. You can just copy the DLC installers from one system to the other, install them, and then log in with the account they are registered under.
If disabling ECN didnt work on your Win7 system, then that means either something else within Win7 is causing the problem, or a 3rd party application has modifed your network settings so that it no longer connects properly.

I try to be helpful, but there are only so many tmies you can say the exact same thing, and be ignored, before you lose patience. If you want to deal with someone with professional manners and courtesy, then by all means go to EA's support page and deal with them, as they are the noes who are paid to provide official tech supoprt for the game. On these forums, you are dealing with other users who give up their free time to help you out with your problem.

Steam install or DLC install?
Also, please register the game on the forums. This is not an accusation, but given the spate of users with illegally downloaded copies coming to the forums asking for help, forum registration is the only way we can be sure we are dealing with a legit copy. Illegally downloaded copies include hacked and modified files which could be either corrupt, or full of malware. Once its registered, we will be happy to help. Forums Registration here;

I had this problem recently when I upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit. Just to give a bit of background: I have the digital version of ME2 from Origin. I back my game up by copying the entire Mass Effect™ 2 folder from the C:/.../Origin Games folder, and reinstall it by copying said folder back to its original locations and hitting up the installer in the DISK1 folder.

I tried a this fix (try it out if you haven't already), and while it worked for some people it didn't quite do the trick for me - the game wouldn't go past the Launcher and I couldn't install any of my pre-downloaded DLC. After a bit of tinkering the solution was a lot simpler than I thought.

Go to C:/.../Mass Effect™ 2/Binaries. Look for EACore_App.ini and open with a text editor. Pay attention to these entries:

...
core.agents.0.path="C:\\Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\activation\\activation.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /gameName="{data5}" /corePort={CPPort}
...
core.agents.1.path="C:\\Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\activation\\activation.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /gameName="{data5}" /corePort={CPPort}
...
core.agents.2.path="C:\\Program Files\\Origin Games\\Mass Effect™ 2\\binaries\\PatchProgress.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /guid={clientGUID}
...

That's where the problem lies. Just change the location to match where the Mass Effect™ 2 folder is stored in your system. In my case, it was in Program Files (x86) and NOT in Program Files where it was prior to the 64-bit upgrade. It was smooth sailing after that.

Hope this helps!

I had a problem with dlc/patch content giving me the same error, all I had to do was delete the ™ from the folder name. All the content installed easily afterward.

I was having the same problem because I first ran ME2 from my D drive. I moved it over to my C drive when I couldn't apply the patch but still got the same error. I ended up downloading the ME2 registry from regfiles.net and it works fine now. Hope this helps :)

This worked for me. My issue was that my copy of the game is on my external so the PC I was using to install the DLC didn't realize it had ME2 on it :P

I've seen a few people using externals with the problem (also was an issue with Spore). So I hope they find this, cause it helped me

 Creating HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > BIOWARE > MASS EFFECT 2
 worked for me. There wasn't even a bioware entry untill I added it. I put a String value named path in the MASS EFFECT 2 key with the path to my mass effect install directory. Now the DLC installs fine!:wizard:

Edit: I am using the Steam version.

Fixed my problem. I booted up the ME2Launcher, kept it running in the background. Started up the DLC exe, got the error that ME2 was running in the background. Closed ME2 Launcher and the DLC exe, restarted the DLC exe and it started installing. Did not edit the registry.

Worked!  Thanks.

I have the same problem with the Cerberus Arc Projector :-(
However the solution mentioned above worked for me :-)

open up regedit, press WINDOW KEY + R, it should bring up the run tool, if not find it.
type in REGEDIT and press enter.
once in regedit navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > BIOWARE > MASS EFFECT 2
once there look for the registry that says Path on name; edit it to where your STEAM copy of ME2 is located
C:\\Program Files\\\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\mass effect 2
in most cases

The fix might not work immediately. Restart your PC to be sure.

Thank you very much worked briliantly with my digital origin version of mass effect 2
