I've already experienced a dead PS3, and after losing all my saves then I really don't want that to happen again, so I've been copying my saves to drive so that I can keep them and have them if something ever happens. Except Dragon Age doesn't allow this, for no reason at all. Why in the world can't I backup my save? If my PS3 dies or if I ever want to upgrade my HDD then I'm out of hundreds of hours of work! And, I have a friend that can't play her Dragon Age as much because she now lives with her boyfriend, and her parents own the PS3. Well she can't play her game too because the save's locked to the PS3. She was pissed about that too.
So, please, unlock the save. As buggy as the game is, this is probably my number one complaint that I'd want taken care of before any of that, and I'm sure it's also one of the easiest things to take care of.
Unlock the Saves, please

locked saves is supposedly to prevent trofee cheating? IDK but when you get a YLOD you get FUBARED

Agreed loosing 70+ hours is rather unpleasant ... it can be done as Capcom unlocked resi 5's saves.

I play on 2 machines one at home and one I take when working away. A reral pain playing 2 games and trying to remember what you have done in each.

I lost 7 full playthrough worth of data to YLOD, of course the upside is that I get an excuse to play it again & i'm about to finish my 9th playthrough now

I've had to have my PS3 replaced in the past and lost out big time on locked saves. While it's unlikely I'll need to replace the PS3 again, it's entirely possible I'll want to upgrade the HD and I'd hate to lose 90+ hours of gaming.

While it would be better if Bioware unlocked the saves, there is a workaround; as long as you keep playing on one machine (sorry, this workaround wont solve the problem of playing on different machines)
The workaround is to do a complete backup of the PS3. Just plug in an USB-drive that is formatted in FAT32 and then go to system settings abd backup your hard-disk.
It's not something I do daily (takes way too long to do the backup) but I did it when I replaced the hard disk in my PS3.

Since we cannot get a service from PSN that does store our protected save games online (it would be also an optional service who one can pay 10$/year) the only solution is to unlock the saved game.
The backup works only if you restore protected game on the same console, here in europe, if your ps3 dies you can pretend to have back the same ps3 regenerated (with the same serial number) so it will be possible to restore also protected data BUT this procedure makes the repair to take up to 3 months.
Why in the hell we cannot do what we want of our saved games ? We are not speaking of unlocking dlc (so piracy is not an excuse) so passing to my friend a saved game or copying it to make a simply backup should really be allowed.
Let's suppose one or more users using the freedom to copy and pass saved games to one of him/her friend to merely make simpler unlock trophies.... And so? Someone unlock trophies cheating.... but the PS3 trophies are merely decorative , who cares about 200 or 300 trophies unlocked cheating ? Unlocking trophies doesn't give you any advantage except the one you can show them to your friends .... Why PSN or BioWare should care about cheaters that want to get easy-tricky trophies instead of earning them fairly ? Personally I don't care about it, if someone want them and cheats , give him the trophies, he surely won't be satisfied as me that I've unlocked the same trophies fairly, it is his problem, not mine.

My problem is that I can't make any new characters anymore, so the only way to make a new game is by deleting a old character. Now If I could backup my stored DA data everything would work out so much better.

Even made my own post not seeing this one... 5 completed stories ready to go for the expansion. Now I won't be buying the expansion unless they unlock the saves. I was so looking forward to loading my characters.

I lost two Wardens because my data got corrupted when I tried playing yesterday... I was planning on making the guy in my avatar become King of Ferelden... Now, he's trapped in a zombie-infested Redcliff for all of eternity.
