Signed,

locked savegames are one of the most annoying things on the ps3, as far as I'm concerned I paid for the game and should be allowed to play it any way I want and do anything I want with my savegames, if some people like to use other peoples savegames just let them, especially if it's not even a multiplayer game !

It's hard to imagine the thinking that went into locking them in the first place. Or maybe not. Sounds like it was a management decision made by someone that just doesn't have a clue. That's only speculation, but I can't believe that any reasonable person could come up with a valid reason for locking them.

yeah I was gonna get a 250g PS3 slim or w/e once I got into the service and got situated. ( got the 40G one atm, oldschool lol)

Not being able to xfer over any saved file is a bummer itself, but it really sucks when I cant take my DAO file of 46+ hours of play time and move it.

This is the only thing holding me back from upgrading my hard drive. Please unlock.

I'm a PS3 newbie -- I previously did all my gaming on my PC; I bought the PS3 this Christmas to play Uncharted 1&2 Image IPB, then realized I preffered the controller approach to keyboard and mouse  It was all over after that...   Anyway, I explained that as a caveat, if the below approach doesn't work for older PS3 systems.

I have a 120GB PS3 Slim.  On my system, there's a menu path "Settings -> System Settings -> Data Transfer Utility".  In the info for this section, it says you can move all data from one PS3 to a new PS3 by connecting them with an Ethernet cable.  It specifically says this will also work for Locked game data.

While this doesn't help anyone who has a PS3 crash, it could resolve issues for those (like Lady_Au_Pair) who just want to upgrade to a new system.

(FWIW -- I agree with everyone here that the saves should be unlocked, but when I found this in my system last night, I figured others might want to know that data transfer is available and should hopefully work to allow an upgrade, at least on the 120-Slim) .

Data Transfer Utility is available for all PS3 Models since firmware 3.15 but the problem is that if you have to change your console because it is broken Data Transfer Utility is not useful.

I mean in most cases people changes (or has to change) his/her console only because it is definitely broken.

as in you can't do a data transfer from a YLOD to a Slim, the problem is I took the time to backup my slim data on a extHDD... but with a locked save, that was worthless

There is nothing to acknowledge, Demon's Souls same issue, Batman AA same issue. This is one of those "everybody is a DOOOOON ID 2" thing. Everyone is doing it , so it makes it right? :(

The following are recent and semi-recent games that launched with save locks but were later patched to have unlocked saves.

Batman: Arkham Asylum

MotorStorm: Pacfic Rift

Resident Evil 5

Resistance 2

Valkyria Chronicles [System Data (settings) file is locked, but the Play Data file is not]

Developers ARE doing it in response to their customer's dissatisfaction.  That Bioware has not commented in threads like these speaks volumes (well I did get a mod and developer in one thread, but neither mentioned the original topic and just reminded us not to be angry...).

Really, though, I just don't understand why THIS game remains locked.  Demon Souls - sure I was PISSED when I lost my who-knows-how-many-hours character, but at least I knew online PVP wouldn't have people just downloading a lvl 700 save.  If you look at the trophies for this game, many are decisions at different points in the game - not collect x number of items.  So there would have to be many save games to dl and load to unlock everything, and who really cares?  I don't see a lot of threads of ha ha I have more achievements/trophies than you and that trophy/achievement doesn't give you any sort of monetary value either in real life or virtual.

I would just like to backup my saves and regain my 5 lost ones as imports to DA:A.  I won't purchase anything more until saves are unlocked.  I keep coming back hoping to see an update, but there are so many other games out there I'm thinking this one is going to the grave for good.

It is sad... but the red button reports the post to a moderator. Maybe if everyone reports themselves that will get attention? The entire PS3 forum is void of mod/dev response except for when they are announcing something else you can buy - go figure.

I'd just like a yes/no answer so I know if I should give up and move on or continue to browse here hoping for a patch.

It's really sad and I think it's against netiquette. That said, I think that this kind of things can be done only if it is the last chance.

Anyway it's sad to not hear any official motivation that makes bioware lock the saves on ps3.

Does anyone know if the Xbox360 saves are locked?
