because of those infernal Stone Prisoner problem i was forced to delete my save data (and i didnt even solve the problem). so, save data need to be unlocked to anticipate future bugs that requires us to ask those chat bot only to have them saying that you need to delete save data.

Well, this idea has certainly been tossed around on our end. We like the idea of giving the players control over their save games especially since this is such a large game and the ability to manage their saves seems pretty golden. We are looking to see if this is something we can implement. If not, then we can't but we are certainly going to give it a shot.
Thanks for the update! I still have my dead PS3 with 5 completed saves on it. If I take out the board and heat gun it for awhile I can get about 30 minutes of uptime before it craps out again. Hopefully that'd be enough to update the game and copy to a USB. You unlock the saves, I'll purchase DA:A (and DLC) - let's make a deal. Ha ha

Hi folks,
This unfortunately is not a BioWare issue. I know that you folks would love the ability to unlock and manage your saves outside of DA but Sony demands that all saves games be locked. They don't let us release games unless we do that. It has something to do with achievement validity, they don't want players exchanging save games for easy achievement hunting. My suggestion is to go to the Sony forums and start posting there about releasing save games because here at the developer level, there just isn't much that we can do.
i don't want to call you a liar but not all ps3 games have copy protected saved data. Plus there have been games patched to disable this funtion (Resident Evil 5, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, ...).

it's another half-truth in the vein of their excuse that RtO was delayed so long because of sony's certification process.
yes, locking save data is an attempt to prevent people from exchanging save data for the sake of trophy hunting. yes, sony has provided the tools to lock save data, but sony never made it mandatory. locking save data, as far as i've been told/i have read, is entirely up to the developers to implement.

You might want to ask the creators of Sacred 2 how they fixed the same problem in PS3 to allow transfers. All you have to do is link the saves to a profile, and then those files can only be used for trophies with the linked profile. They will be playable without trophies in unlinked accounts. Simple!

Just saw the responses on this and thanks for listening to the fans. I'm not sure how you could say it's a Sony-wide thing since there are plenty of games that I can copy the saves from. What's the difference between those and Dragon Age. I mean I can copy my Final Fantasy XIII save just fine and that's an RPG, too.
The issue itself is not a Sony thing, it is a Bioware thing, and the person who stated that was probably confused. Sony asks for the trophies to be locked to the account. That does not mean locking the save files, which is the "cheap" security measure. It means linking the save file to the active PSN account. This can be done easily without preventing you from copying files.

I know it's a Bioware thing. I was responding to the Bioware employee that said it's a Sony thing, and I found that just as weird as everyone else, since obviously it can be done just like you said.

This has to be a bioware issue, other games on the PS3 don't have locked save files!

My PS3 is dying and I'm trying to back up all my saves and I just learned of this travesty. I love Bioware I have all of their PC games, but I will never buy another one of their products after this. I would never have purchased the PS3 version of this game if I had known about this. If I can't copy these save games I will lose 100+ hours of gameplay on 3 characters.
Bioware fix this ASAP.

Have you tried doing a full system backup? This can copy even locked files sometimes.

But the problem with either of these options is that if you PS3 dies, your SOL, and unable to do either of these. People ( most of us) like the fact of being able to put our content onto a FD or something incase this may happen.
I got a 40GB PS3 ( yup old) so I'm waiting ( not really) for it to die out. If anything I'll get a 250GB once I get into the service and get situated.
but heres to a BUMP and hopeful for a bioware response!

As long as you create your user name on the new PS3 before swapping HDD over you should be able to restore all your game saves etc.
The format option only seems to appear when you swap HDD before setting up the new PS3 with your PSN details etc.
Also Sony now allow a full transfer of data onto a second PS3 which will copy all data.
Backups are the way to go though if your worried about your 40GB!
