Just unlock the saves...let people backup their stuff if they want to...

And the stuff Trilarian says in page 4 makes alot sense for me.

Thirty days have
passed since Micheal Lang last response :

Well, this idea has certainly been tossed around on our end. We like the
idea of giving the players control over their save games especially
since this is such a large game and the ability to manage their saves
seems pretty golden. We are looking to see if this is something we can
implement. If not, then we can't but we are certainly going to give it a
shot.

and nothing happened since then.

@Difre : Thank you for pointing me to Trilarian's post .

Anyway there was another thing I didn't remember or noticed on his post : we are unable to transfer save games even using transfer data utility, so this makes the situation worst, we have to pray to never get hardware failure and we cannot even swich console if we want (for example selling a fat and buying a slim), but worst we always have to pray that in case of hardware failure SONY repairement service won't substitute our console with another.

The problem is that SONY introduced a perverse mechanism to fight piracy but they extended it also to save game data which is a real fault. Bioware probably didn't realize during game porting (the game was originally developed for pc), what are the consequences, this is Bioware's or EA's fault.

But now , since PS3 games are patchable they should really try to make a patch to unlock at least save games also keeping them profile locked, it is in general technical doable , like Trilarian said : there were games that have been unlocked with a patch, so Bioware should really try to begin to investigate which is the technical impact, for example if there could be software issues or bugs loading save games from another console, I really hope they are doing this to start fixing the problem.

Okay, I finally made my Bioware Account.

I have108 hours clocked into this game. I am just about to start Awakenings.

Bioware, this is PARAMOUNT that you rectify the fact that I cannot save my character elsewhere. I'm using a 60g PS3 from 3 years ago, and it could literally break down any day now. I will lose EVERYTHING if this is the case. I will be destroyed if this happens.

AT LEAST, allow me to upload this save onto YOUR servers elsewhere. Charge me 10 bucks a month, I DONT CARE. It is April 25th 2010 - this issue is still here and INSANELY important. Please respond. Please.

My 60gig PS3 broke about 2 months ago, while I was playing this and the only save files I couldn't save were for this game due to this issue. I just bought a new 120gig Slim today and want to start playing again but hate to lose 20+ hours by having to start all over simply because the save files can't be copied. I work nearly 50 hours a week so losing 20 or so hours of play time is a big deal to me.

Has anyone even remotely hinted that the saves "could" be unlocked in the near future?

Hi folks,
This unfortunately is
not a BioWare issue. I know that you folks would love the ability to
unlock and manage your saves outside of DA but Sony demands that all
saves games be locked. They don't let us release games unless we do
that. It has something to do with achievement validity, they don't want
players exchanging save games for easy achievement hunting. My
suggestion is to go to the Sony forums and start posting there about
releasing save games because here at the developer level, there just
isn't much that we can do.

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but that's just rubbish and you know it.  FF13 released without locked saves. Capcom patched out the locked saves on RE... Is SNE treating developers differently?  I highly doubt that.  Truth is - SNE provided a lame-duck DRM mechanism and you're abusing it because you're too lazy to develop a solution that's consumer friendly.

My PS3 just died again for the second time. I've given up getting it fixed now and bought a new one, so my Dragon Age saves are now gone. Also gone are the chances of me buying the comedically priced DLC that I probably would have ended up getting at some point had I been able to keep my save data. It's a real shame, but I can't bring myself to start the new expansion with a fresh character when I've just lost all the stuff I spent about 150 hours collecting.

Thanks a lot Bioware, and that is a mixture of sincerity and sarcasm. A genuine thank you for making one of the best games I've played in a long time. Also up yours for this pointless lock on MY save data. To lose all this time has been a major annoyance which has really tarnished my view of the game and put me off playing it anymore. Regardless of how good any forthcoming games you put out on PS3 happen to be I won't be buying them if you repeat this bull headed idiocy in the future. I'm sure I'm won't be the only one to tread carefully where your company is concerned from now on given your inability/unwillingness to resolve a legitimate and straight forward issue put to you by a substantial amount of your customers, and by that I don't just mean the few of us who have posted on your own forums. Google it, it may prove educational. The fact that the average gamer is more clued up on ways around this than yourselves would be laughable if it wasn't so annoying.

To everyone else my best wishes. I hope this is resolved for the rest of you before you end up in the position I find myself in now.

this would have been nice to do when i was sweating bullets updating my ps3 firmware. luckily, i managed to do it with no problems. sadly, more and more games are going this route. i couldn't back up this, assassin's creed 2, bayonetta, and a couple others if i recall correctly.

Bioware: It seems that on my 60 gig PS3, the more saves I have SAVED to my hard drive, the SLOWER my save games take to load. Up to 30 seconds of waiting for DA to "Checking for Saved Games". At least 30 seconds.

This can be resolved by DELETING my saves, OR by backing them up FIRST and then pruning and deleting them.

YOU MUST ALLOW US TO SAVE THESE SAVE FILES ELSE WHERE.

I have 100 + hours on this character, and I'm now digging deep into the clearly buggy and not as refined Awakenings.

This is my number one fix request (even more so than the freeze brought on by patch 3.30 and the relatively minor bugs). For the insane amount of hours lovingly invested in this game, I would be bummed to no end to lose all those saves.

I know this seems to be going nowhere, but after losing my first 40 hours (and original console) to YLOD I would love a way to back up my saves that doesn't involve a 14 hour process that limits me to the same console.

This is taking way too long, seriously BioWare, I doubt even Capcom took this long when patching RE:5. You really need to start showing your PS3 fans a little love and stop treating us like second class citizens!

I got to bump this again, because it couldn't be more important to me.

Any day my PS3 can go, and I'll have lost my mage. I would even PAY for a place to upload the save file to a Bioware server for f*ck sakes.

1) Coming off the Playstation web site there are numerous examples of Sony claiming it is up to the developer to lock or not lock the saves.  To give an example (I can site other links if need be), click here.  This is the announcement of the latest firmware update and the 'Data Transfer Utility'.  When questioned about locked saves in relation to this utility:

Q: So thats a FULL transfer of all save game data (copy protected?) everything???
A: No, copy protected save data can not be transfered due to publisher’s requirements

I justed wanted to mention that while the Q/A listed above seems to say that it is the publishers who mandate this game save locking, it doesn't actually say anything of the sort. It says there is a requirement to not copy copy protected saves (reasonable I suppose...) but does not state that copy protected saves are mandated. I strongly suspect "weasel words" from both sides. <_<
