I bought a slim ps3 to replace my fat ps3 thinking I would just be able to copy my saves over and start new but then when i tried to copy my dragon age saves over I couldn't so thats over 100 hours wasted. Sony keeps advertising and trying to get people to switch over to slims but then they are also it seems starting to lock more saves. So what do they expect people to do? This isn't right Please Fix!

I've had to have my PS3 replaced in the past and lost out big time on locked saves. While it's unlikely I'll need to replace the PS3 again, it's entirely possible I'll want to upgrade the HD and I'd hate to lose 90+ hours of gaming.

I was told you can transfer the information from a HDD to a replacement HDD but you cannot transfer a save from the HDD to a memory card. It is annoying but it what it is.

It gives me an excuse as to why I'm here on one PS3 vs. another location on my second PS3. It also give me the excuse as to why I am going to play the game 12+ times.

Had just started getting into this game and it YLOD'd on me, tried to copy my saves and it said no, lost about 20 hours of play. Not quite as devastating as the 70+ on my Demon's Souls game, but still very annoying

My PS3 just fried (yesterday), although I can still start it for like 10 minutes at a time. I cannot transfer 98 DA/Awakening saves, equaling up to over 100+ hours of gameplay between my girlfriend and I. If those hours have been wasted, I am not buying a single BioWare game again, until they have stopped being so completely moronic about their copyright procedures for the consoles. I cannot use it for anything that on top of losing a 3500 DKK system, I ALSO have to lose hundreds of hours of gameplay.

I'm aware of the possibility to transfer between Playstations and get all the data - however as I have replaced the standard harddrive on mine with a 500 GB one, I need to buy another 500 GB one to put in the new PS3 at some point, to transfer the data - Despite the fact that my present harddrive is working absolutely perfectly(!). In other words, I am being forced to spend extra money, because BioWare decided to slap a copyright tag on SAVEGAMES(!) With all due respect, but that is unfortunately one of the most retarded things I have heard from a game developer, since Vivendi's ridiculous licensing schemes.

And BioWare is not alone - I have plenty of other games that won't allow me to copy my bleeding save games. Why? Because of people cheating? Let them! Don't punish the ACTUAL players for the actions of losers!

I won't be buying anymore games from anyone, until I have verified that their savegames are not copyright tagged. I won't be wasting my time again with that kind of useless company policies.

I know it's a drop in the water, and there's going to be a lot of people just saying "doesn't matter if you buy or don't - plenty others will" - yes you're right. That's just because they're also using the same excuses as you though, or plain don't care unless you're knee deep in trouble yourself. I for one am boycotting any company using this procedure from now on. I'd encourage others to do the same, but I severely doubt it's going to do any difference, what with game developers (or rather, game publishers) these days heavily ignoring their customers. The globalization means more suckers who'll pay without caring to find out what they're paying for first... Are we really that stupid as consumers?

it'd be great if saves were unlocked, or at least tied to psn accounts instead of systems.

sign, please unlock the save file, it is a very inconvenience feature with a game that have limit for character creation. dragon age have tons of re-playability and most hardcore fans have ways with the game which require more then 10 characters. it also create more problem with awakening as it counted toward the 10 character limits, (combining both game, you only can have 5 characters)

i wish i can backup my character in some flash drive so i dont need to delete my character every time i start a new game.

thanks.

Thanks Bioware, my PS3 just stopped reading discs, so it looks like I am going to have to get another one. Please unlock saves, it is garbage that they would not at least be tied to a PSN account like other games.

Hoours, in the meantime make a full system backup, it should copy dragon age files as well.

I will, and I appreciate your reply.

The consumer shouldnt have to buy another 60, 160, or in my case, 360gb HD just so they can copy and back up a game however.

What does backing up your files do if you can't play them on another PS3? (serious question, not sarcastic)

@Hookurs: I agree! And also it is not reasonable to expect the user to spend 4 hours of their time backing up content every other day. This needs to be fixed.

Also:

The Full System Restore works in another ps3 as well. The important thing to be able to access copy protected games that have been restored is to use the originating account. I have 2 ps3 and have my same profile on both with Demon's Souls, which also has copy protection (it was a low budget game)

Oh, I was looking short sighted at just DA. Of course other companies would allow you to benefit from your hard work. I messaged several people on the Bioware staff at the start of the week and a few this morning, yet no reply. They have time to police the Tali-lovers thread but no time to answer a question about on of their games? We haven't heard from a single Bioware person in a while.

I'm confused. Are you saying that, besides having copy-protected savefiles, Dragon Age also has some sort of connection to the originating PS3? So if you do a full system restore in another ps3, the Dragon Age files won't work?! But if you do the full system restore on the same ps3 they do?

Um, after reading the posts above I was lead to believe that if you transfer your DA files to another PS3 you cannot play them because they are locked to a specific PS3, not your PSN account. My PS3 just stopped reading discs, and I am waiting for BestBuy to get more in stock. Is it a fact that if you transfer your files to a new PS3 that they are locked?

As far as my experience goes, that is not true, you can transfer copy protected files by doing a full system backup and then a full system restore on ANY ps3.

I haven't tried Dragon Age, but I did a full system backup and restore of Demon's Souls and I can play it on 2 different ps3s.

The key issue is to see what the developer/publisher chose: some publishers lock the data to a ps3, others copy-protect it only. This is why if the Dragon Age files are not only copy protected by also locked to one ps3, it is completely up to Bioware to change this (which really is starting to show a blatant lie in "Sony forced us to do this")

I'm not sure how old your PS3 is but if it is less than a year old it is under Sony's warranty. I have replaced my fat 60GB model more than once for FREE through Sony warranty.

So for those of you that have issues with your PS3; if it is less than a year old or maybe even 15 months you maybe able to get a refurb from their factory by using their warranty.

There seems to be some incorrect info floating around in this thread...

Copyright protected saves cannot be copied via a full back-up to any other PS3 – take it from someone who has tried. It will not work, the saves simply do not transfer – this is also the case for any virtual memory cards created for PS1/PS2 titles

That is very strange, as I can play copy-protected Demon's Souls on two ps3s myself since last year.

There are two levels of copy protection:
1. Copy protect save file only
2. Copy protect save file and tie to PS3 hardware

Dragon Age seems to be in the second category, but many other games are not and can be transferred using the transfer data utility or full system backup and restore

The experiences I've had are copyright protection not working on a full system back-up with Dragon Age, Tom Clancy's Endwar, Killzone 2 and Resident Evil 5 – the latter eventually being patched by Capcom.
I wish BioWare would take a page out of Capcom's book and get this fixed, we have been waiting too long – plus, I think the 60GB I have is about ready to go.

There is a long list of games that have the absurd copy protection that is also linked to the ps3, and it seems the number is increasing specially with EA (Dante's Inferno also has this stupid mechanism). I suppose that for now you can repair your ps3 instead of buying a new one (the serial on ps3 will be the same even on refurb)... but we are lobbying Sony and all publishers to stop this retarded practice.
