Hello all,

I just wanna throw out there I'm about the hit the omega 4 relay (please refrain from spoiling anything from getting to the omega 4 relay to the end of the game)

Just so we are all clear, I want everyone to know that I absolutely love this game. I'm just stating that what could've been improved. I also wanted to see if people share the same opinions as me.

This post might be a bit long so for those 'people' who hate long posts I'll just bold the points and give my explanation with normal font.

So here's what i didn't like

-You can't crouch manually (minor)

-Small graphical hiccups

Only small stuff like getting stuck in small environments. Nothing a patch can't fix.

-Lack of variety of weapons (minor)
There are 2 weapons for each type of weapon (except for the heavy weapons). I would've liked to see me seeing as how ME1 had tons. Also I would've liked to see weapons Turians, Krogran, Asari and so on and so forth use. Like ME1, I have a hard time believing that all the weapons races use look similar. That being said it's only a minor one. I thought it would be nice touch to make the universe fell more 'expanded'

-Can't customize squadmates armour (minor)
I thought it was really neat how you can customize your armour like colours pattern, physical appearance and what not. I thought it was too bad you couldn't do the same for your squadmates I thought that would've been cool. Also it's too bad you can't fix Garrus' armour. Anyone one miss buying armour?

-Aliens speak english (minor)
Like ME1, I thought it was weird that
all aliens spoke english. It would've been cool if the aliens spoke
their native language. Again a nice touch to make the universe feel
more 'expanded'.

On another note, I tihnk the voice acting in the game is one of the best I've seen

-Meeting former squadmates from ME1 (somewhat minor, not major)
Other then Ashley, I thought running into your other companions was a bit.... underwhelming. They way I saw, take Liara for example, you meet Liara and she says "Shepard!? Your back!? Your not dead!? That's good because I need your help". Maybe this is just me but I would've prefered if they took more time catchign up with you like Ash did.

However it was neat to really get to know Garrus and Tali at a very personal level.

-Radar with HUD (minor)
Just is just personal preference, i think they should've left the radar on with you instead of pausing the game to look at it

-Crew feels 'static'
In ME1, I loved how your ship was populated. Thing is they never really talked. I'm glad they fixed it (somewhat) here. Now another thing I would've liked to see is to see your crew, and to an extent your squadmates, walking around the ship.

-Is it really an RPG? (grey)
ME1 felt like a third person/RPG hybrid. ME2 feels more like a shooter with basic RPG mechanics. I think it would've been nice if they somehow made the RPG aspect a little more..... deep. But I'm fine the way it is. This may just be me but I can't help relating/comparing this game to Deus Ex. Anyone else feel the same.

-Planet scanning (major)
This is really the only major problem I have with the game. Words cannot describe how much I hate planet scanning.

This is all I can think of at the moment. Please comment. I would like to hear whether you guys agree/disagree and seeing what you guys didn't like about the game.

I believe everyone is using universal translators, thus it sounds as if everyone is speaking a language you understand. :)

Would be hilarious if Volus spoke with an american accent from Mississippi though! :D

The crouching thing I can live with, since your aim even while standing is extremely steady (no sniper rifile sway THANK GOD).

I am with you on the 'lack of radar'. Sometimes I would come under enemy fire and have no clue where it was coming from for a few seconds, which would cause me to freak out a bit. But then, having the radar might break the game's difficulty if you could coordinate that well.

Scanning planets...I feel it's actually a significant improvement. Yes, it's still extremely tedious, but it's no longer mindless, and the rewards feel quite tangible.

I wish there were slightly more sidequests though. There's only about 19 N-7 missions (before DLC) and saving them so that you have missions to complete to allow for loyalty unlocks somewhat feels like a break in the flow of the game (especially with how Legion's mission comes so late in the game)

I am also loving the game and I agree wit some of your points.

The speaking English part doesn't bother me I assume I have some kind of implant that let's me understand what everyone is saying. I think there was something about that in ME.

I also wish there was more going on with your old squadmates. Going out for a drink at the local bar or food court. I enjoyed sharing the bottle with Doc. Even a few e-mails along the game just keeping in touch hope your well...... here's a chicken on a dog picture pass it on. OK maybe not that.

It would be nice to have the crew move around, except if I want to talk to one of my team I want to know where they are, but seeing one of them in the background when I'm talking to the cook or thru the window when I'm talking to Doc would be nice.

Never played DeusEx so can't comment on that, but I'm always wishing for more story and conversations with my people and hope the dlc provides some of this.

YES! Planet scanning. I am starting to zone out when I do this. A little was interesting now I'm dreading having to search for more plutonium.

I do like talking to Joker. I'm glad there is a little more to their conversation.

mhm.. i agree with a few points you´re making..

specifically :

the crouch issue.. why was is cut?

the radar/hud.. i would have liked an option to show it permanently.

mhm.. i´m not getting into the whole what was appropriate for which squadmate and whatnot thingy (no i´m not a cheerleader) there are enough threads on that.

sadly, i have to agree or at least don´t disagree on the rpg issue.. it´s not "dumbed down".. it´s just the lvl-system is.. lacking i guess..feels like the kind of bonuses you get from a multiplayer shooter (yeah i know - go whine somewhere else)

i would have liked a bit more choice in talents or abilities or whatever you wanna call it.. not a 50+ skill tree (wouldn´t mind it - just sayin)

as far as scanning goes, all i can say is: i want the hammerhead.. (pretty please?)

Your points are pretty good I agree that the me1 crew could have been expanded more the lack of that creates more tension/anticipation for what is to come. Hopefully ME3 explores into them more like they did for Tali. I didnt really like the quarians through ME1 but the actions of 2 game gave me more insight to appreciate them. As for the language it sometimes comes into my mind but I think its more engaging to hear them in English. If they did do native tongues it would be more realistic but the emotions and the like wouldnt come across.from reading subtitles IMO. Weapons and armor wasnt a big deal for me, but even halo or GoW had the same amount its just the hardcore RPGer in me wanting more. As for the planet scanning I dont mind it. I just break the planet into sections by latitude and put the scanner in the far right hand side to make it more quicker by using both sticks. I prefer to do the latter than driving a dune buggy that weighs as much as a feather through the Rocky Mountains

The most graphical hiccups I had was right before the Collector Base, while Normandy was flying through the wreckage. They kept cutting between the Normandy's movements to Joker's facial expression. I understood the cinematic quality they were trying to get, but jumping back and forth between CG and In-Game graphics was very taxing on the game, and it felt jumpy and uncoordinated.

Are on my list as well. Other then that no real complaints from me. Aliens speaking english is explained in the codex by the way. Something about personal translators or something like that.

I loved the game as well, although i did have some things i didn't really care for.

-The lack of explorable space on the Citadel. I enjoyed wandering around the old Citadel, getting to know every nook and cranny, and all i get of the presidium is Anderson's Office? WTH. not much area for the wards either, although the graphic look has greatly improved.

-Interactions with Liara (or lack there of). I know I know it's been 2 years, but come on, you'd think with all the in dept story behind the rest of the characters, you could have had a little more detail on Liara. Ashley was P'd off at my shep, so I didn't expect much, but Liara was my imported Sheps LI. I expected a little more interaction than a mission or two. not like a love scene or anything like that, just more detail.

and of course, planet scanning. it was fun for a little while, until i realized how much it took to actually build some of the things I needed. I don't even want to think about finding 50K Platinum for the medical bay upgrade. lol.

Other than that, one of the greatest games of all time. This series had turned me into an RPG fan, and it's trumped all other sci fi stories in my collection. That includes Star Wars, and Halo.

I agree on the whole "crew walking around the ship" thing. I know the company that took over for KOTOR 2 did it with that R2D2 robot so it's possible. I think it would be a nice touch. But really, I don't care about it so much that I'm complaining about it not being there. It would just be a cool little extra, imo.

The only cons with me:

You can't crouch (I don't know why they wouldn't include this, but oh well)

You can't change squadmates armour

That's about it. The game took a while to get used to, because it's really different gameplay wise from ME. But I got used to it after a while.

Only part i didn't like was scanning and only having 2 weapons it was nice to get that epic sniper rifle for infiltrators but a few more pistols would have been cool too

I disagree with a lot of your points, I'll explain:

there were LOTS of weapons in ME1 but there was hardly any variance, only a few had unique models while most were just recoloured.

again there was hardly any armour customization, most models were the same with the exception of colossus, rage and phantom

I do agree with the lack of map for most things, but really the path is so linear it is impossible to get lost.

Everyone does indeed use a universal translator. When talking to Thane as femshep he'll call Shepard something in his native language in which Shepard responds "What did you just call me? I think my translator just glitched." or something along those lines.

Pros:

-Polished game, no more texture pop-in.

-Improved Combat

-Improved dialogue interaction(interrupt system)

-Upgrading the Normandy

-Character development

-Galaxy Travel is much better

-Normandy SR2

-Intriguing Story Line

-The world feels very alive(omega anyone?)

-Armor customization for Shepard.

Cons

-Linear level design(every mission is cluttered with cover for the shooter aspect of the game.)

-Not able to upgrade/customize your squad's armor.

-No manual crouch

-Armor stats should be displayed differently rather than text.

-I kinda feel that everyones reaction to shepard being alive wasn't delivered as well as it should have been. It doesn't really seem that anyone really missed you while you were dead.

Love the game as well,

No Crouch was slightly annoying, improved cover system made up for it.

There was some slight graphic errors, but luckily I havent gotten stuck on anything yet.

I have more than 2 types of assault rifles, so Idk what you meant,

I did wish that I could give my team new armor, as long as they all had unqiue armor, becasue I have to admit, I like it better when they all look different, rather than all running around in Collossus armor.

Everyone wears translators.

I was very dissapointed with Liara as she was my LI, but I've heard it makes sense if you read the comic.

There was better crew chemistry in this than the first, but it would be awesome if they freely roamed the ship.

Yes it is a RPG, in the ME1 all of the skills, had 4 ranks, anything between those ranks didn't matter that much. ME2's skills have 4 ranks as well, and all of the skills in ME2 take a different direction when they are fully upgraded.

I actually enjoy scanning the planets, of course buying the scanner upgraded made it much better.

oh wow I didn't realize how many people shared the same ideas I had. Another thing I would like to point out is that the levels don't seem as big as ME1 were but then again there are more locales.

Scanning was... ok. Could have been better, but we could have been back to having to randomly drive around each and every planet in the Mako searching for the mineral deposits which did not appear on your map. Just imagine for a brief moment, needing to collect 50,000 Platinum, and you have to drive around randomly searching a planet which might or might not have a platinum deposit on it. Thank you, even with its short comings, scanning the planet and harvesting resources with a probe was great improvement.

My minor Cons for this game are:

1.Crouching

2.The two faces of my teammates on my ass whenever im walking around....was that really necessary to include? Like i dont know which teammates are with me? I understand the necessity for it in combat where it shows their cooldowns and health....but when its non-combat?

3.The map. For its simplicity, i loved the map system in ME1. It worked great, you can zoom in, it gave you a good sense of the layout. In this one, 90% of the areas have no map, and those who do, the map kinda sucks. Which brings me to #4:

4.Clicking the right stick to bring up the map. Im actually ok with that, but why do i have to press "B" to put the map away? Why cant i just click the stick again? So many times i click it to bring up the map, find what im looking for, and then click it again and nothing happens. Its annoying to say the least.

so yeah, those are the 4 things that get on my nerve.

No manual crouching - I really would've liked this. I hate feeling like cover is 100% mandatory - atleast if I was caught in a bad position in ME1 I could crouch down to feel a little less helpless, or steady my aim.

More Weapons and more weapon customization - I just want a biiit more variety on this department. Atleast in ME1 I kind of felt like the weapon mods did more than 'this hits harder now'.

Levelling Up - huge, huge grievance with the game. I don't feel like my Shepard's evolving at all, and my teammates are as static as ever. I feel like enemies are an annoyance (I try to find ways to get through fights with as little ammo consumption/time wasted as possible) instead of fun to fight (with free XP and cash rewards for doing so!). I feel like I have no control over how my character evolves and changes, and my gear is concrete.

I hate all of these things, but still like ME2. I just really don't know why they couldn't've carried over a similar levelup system.

EDIT: HOLY CHRIST GARRUS THE ENTIRE LEFT SIDE OF YOUR ARMOUR IS COMPLETELY TOTALLED. GET A NEW SUIT OF ARMOUR, OR REPAIR IT, OR SOMETHING. YOU LOOK LIKE YOU WERE DRAGGED UNDER A BUS.

I'm going to only debate this one because it comes up alot when talking about WRPG vs JRPG.  RPG means ROLE PLAYING game.  The point is you play a role of your own choosing within the bounds of the tech (D&D offers more role playing than ME2 which offers more than FF10).   Bioware is trying a new game interface (3rd person shooter vs party tactical strategy) and many elements commonly attributed to role playing games are gone like say attributes but the role playing itself is there and stronger than just about any other game out.

I do not wish to turn this into a debate. I'm just merely stating that the RPG aspects of the game could be a little more deep
