I got punched by a friend after getting my pre-order for not shutting up about how awesome it was.

He got it the next day and apologised.

You sum it up so well on your own...

You, sir, are both intelligent and mature. I applaud you and hope BioWare can secure more fans of your impeccable caliber.

Can we refrain from personal attacks please. For all the quips about being more enlightened players of games it seems the 'true' RPG fans are some of the rudest members of this board. That being said the fan boys aren't portraying themselves much better.

This game is amazing in many respects. I've got about 8 hours in and I'm finding it hard to find any meaningful fault with the game. So Bioware changed some things. It's their right as the owners of the franchise to do so. We are simply along for the ride. You can choose to either accept this and enjoy the game, or choose to move on.

I for one applaud many of the things they changed. For example when I shoot my gun, it hits the intended target. In the early levels of ME1 shepard seemed to be suffering from what can only be described as "Stormtrooper syndrome' Where the target could be close to him, and he would shoot a lamp on the opposite side of the room. This is not what I expect from an N7 soldier.

There are plenty of games that cater to the stats lovers. I being one of them very much enjoyed dragon age. But Bioware was taking Mass Effect in a different direction from the very beginning of the franchise.

I for one am very happy that I don't have to rummage through hundreds of containers only to find several copies of assault rifles with only tiny increases in effectiveness. Or hundreds of the same weapon mod.

A true lover of games plays it for the story. Because at the end of the day that is what a game is. A story told through an interactive medium. In this regard Bioware has no equal. How it is told will always be interpreted in a subjective way by the audience. Some people will love aspects of the interface. Others will not be so pleased. It is up to you to look for the good rather than to be so obsessed with having your point of view listened too.

Enjoy it for what it is, or don't it's up to you.

I was looking for a recent praising thread so here we go! But before I do let me just get a few things straight:

I DO NOT play shooters as a rule, I hate war games and that seems to be the majority of FPSs out there, Mass Effect and Fallout 3 are the only games I have that are 'shooters' and they are very light at that. I consider myself to be an RPG fan, the vast majority of games I have are RPGs.

HOWEVER, I don't believe the style of combat in this game detracts from the story at all and overall I found the changes to be refreshing and welcomed, from a story stand point I thought it was odd people were now using thermal clips and after 2 years of being comatose you somehow know you need them.... That should have been better explained, maybe it is later on.

I really appreciate that instead of finding an endless amount of guns and armor you can customize your existing armor and upgrade your weapons. Much more fitting to the setting and story of ME. The graphics and sounds are like sensory candy. I do miss clicking on my squad mates and hear them comment on their surroundings.

Engaging story is an understament of a sort as after I'm done playing the game my mind just won't shut off the story in my head and I can't help thinking about other possibilitiies and what the characters might say to each other in certain situations. This usually only ever happens to me when I read very good books or watch an exceptional movie (hard to find these days..).

I liked Mass Effect very much, but I LOVE Mass Effect 2. The combat was a little jarring at first and I can understand the culture shock some people are experiencing, but to me part of a game is to practice and get better, that used to what ALL of gaming was. So I don't mind that the combat is harder, but once you get the hang of it, you realize it's so much more smoother then before.

And that's that, as a shooter RPG this is the finest example I can think of and more then worthy to be on BioWare's list of amazing gaming experiences.

i did not read your whole post, but i read the bit about the ammo, and honestly they  probably have no real excuse for it. this is just how they wanted it to be, so they made it this way. honestly i beleive this is how they wanted the combat to be in the first, but it did not quite  turn out as good as they thought, so it got revamped.

i agreee with you, it also seems to me that the "true RPG" fans seem to be extremely rude, maybe it is from a lack of socail contact outside of video games, i do not know, but it does seem to be that way.

No, Mass Effect 2 is not the best game ever created nor is Dragon Age or any other. Why? Because "The Best" is a subjective terminology regulated to each individual person and upon the assumption we are all capable of individual thought, opinions will differ amongst the masses. This threads is nothing except one user's opinion and those possessing agreement or disagreement accordingly. Whilst entitled to your opinion, threads such as these spark hostility regardless whether or not they praise or condemn the game. Additionally you cannot expect constructive criticism on Bioware's forum; a forum dedicated to the Mass Effect fanbase. Furthermore to insinuate those who adore the game are simply playing it, thus not present to argue. I in turn could state those who dislike Mass Effect are playing other games and not present to lobby complaints. Essentially the statement is a wash.

Ultimately if you enjoy the game, I offer you my congratulations as being immersed in a game you treasure is a wonderful feeling. My favorite game shall likely eternally remain Lunar: SSSC, in spite of its age for the aforementioned reason. Of course I do heavily favor the Mass Effect series. All I say is be mindful because others may disagree does not mean they are incorrect.

I'm pretty sure I'm in a comma right now, and this forum (and thus you) are a figment of my imgination. Because of such, I am in a sense your, god. As your god I demand you to acknoweldge DA:O and ME2 as the best games ever or be erased from existence.

My apologies mate however Lunar: SSSC will forever sit upon the throne of my favorite game in all existance. It was my very first RPG, a game I have completed well exceeding twenty times and if FFX and Lunar 2 (two games I adore) cannot dethrone it nothing ever shall. Of course the ME series is admittedly pressing through my favorite video games. Perhaps once I get going with ME2 it shall achieve what none before have, take a top three spot on my roster. :P

Regardless it is still loved. :D

I played and loved Lunar and Lunar 2 way back on the SegaCD (yeah, I'm old school). Still one of my favorite JRPGs, and I happily shelled out the cash for the PlayStation remakes as well as the GBA port... which I guess makes me a sucker, but there it is.

It's everything that ME1 wasn't.

Which is a fancy way of saying it's nothing at all like ME1... which is ultimately why the people who liked ME1 are complaining.

Its sad I'm one of the very few who realizes how incredibly perfect and superior this game is over ME1.

Yes, those sad unfortunate people who don't see things the same way as you. It's too bad they can't all be rounded up and re-educated somewhere. How dare they think differently!?

Personally, I find the new equipment system to be 1000 times better than the one in ME1. No more pointless and ridiculous overdrops. No more 150 item limit.

Really? I played through ME1 no less than 6 times and at no point did I ever reach the inventory limit. I simply visited the Normandy Requisition Officer between each mission (which conveniently also gave me an opportunity to speak with my crew below deck) and sold off any unneeded equipment. This had the bonus effect of meaning that I was never short on credits either.

Money actually means something this time around.

How so? Because there are tons of needless credit sinks (ie: fuel, probes, fish, pets and other miscelaneous junk)?

Instead of getting individual weapons for you and your party members, one found schematic can be used to outfit the entire team.

And ammo is perfectly fine. It gives you a sense of tactical urgency rather than the "Spray and Spray"-thing ME1 had going. And the red veins are much less annoying than they first appeared. You don't really have time to focus on them in middle of the combat, yet they are noticeable enough to get their point across. Simple and perfect solutions.

And finally - Ray Muzyka. I forgive you for your overuse of "emotionally engaging", because now I know you weren't just talking out of your *ss. I salute you all on your best game ever, BioWare. You are gods.

The rest of your post is pure opinion, which I won't waste my time arguing against except to say that I completely disagree.

Amen! :bandit:

This game is miles beyond ME1 in every way.  Who'd of thought we have so many clutter bugs who seem to enjoy cleaning their inventory every other battle.

Glad they scrapped that ****, I like the new streamlined inventory and hope they do it again in the 3rd.  As far as money goes I agree as well.  I found myself restricted and would watch what upgrade i'd buy as opposed to having 9999999 and just getting whatever whenever in ME1.
