Correction about Spirit Healer: Wynne does NOT teach Spirit Healer. You can only get it from a manual.

Anyone found another way of getting Blood Mage?
Seems a little harsh to allow the demon control of the child lol.

Can someone explain the Blood Mage option in more detail?
Do I need to agree to try and save the child by entering the Fade? In my first playthrough I refused to do that and just confronted the child in the real world and killed the demon+him.

Or for reaver you can save b4 you make the choice and choose to get destroy the urn which will unlock it for your profile, then reload the save and choose to not destroy it.

The Demon inside the fade offers Blood Mage to you in exchange for you not meddling in her affairs.

I play a lot of toons, I had one who chose duelist. Now I am doing another rogue and when I got to 7th lvl Duelist was already unlocked. So - unlocking 1 specialization unlocks it for all your Toons?
It was nice being able to pick it up when I lvld to 7, without having to go find it. I have unlocked berserker also so I guess that is available if and when I make another warrior.

This is very helpful. Those that are complaining about the Urn, why not just save it then get Reaver and then load your save. The achievments are tied to your profile so you will still have it and you can finish the game they way you feel it should be finished.

I wish Wynne would actually teach me Spirit Healer. I swear to god, I had 100 favor with her and she still wouldn't teach it to me. I ended up buying the book instead.

save your game beforehand, then save it in a different file after you learn Reaver. Unlocking a specialization unlocks it for your entire account.

Remember: specializations, once unlocked, are always unlocked for everyone, everywhere. So if you really want reaver but like Wynne in your party:
Save in a separate before you talk to the lead cultist. (or bargain with the fade demon, or whatever irreversible step). Do the nasty thing to get the unlock. Poison the ashes, etc, etc. Revert to the original save. Do the holy thing. Now you can be a reaver and save the ashes.
There's no legitimate in-game way of getting Reaver and saving the ashes in your first playthrough. But since you can do it with no problems second playthrough (if you chose Reaver first time), then hey.

So far no way to unlock reaver without the urn, I'm sure in time we'll find an alternate path, but as I said you WILL keep a pinch of ashes to save the Arl, so you're not condemning him to die.
If you really don't want to do it, save just before, destroy the urn, get the Reaver, then reload the savegame and don't destroy the Urn. Reaver will still be unlocked. (It's a perma-unlock for your account.)
I did the same thing with blood mage. Sure it's meta-gaming / cheating, eh whatever.

You need to be at 75 affinity or better in order for the NPCs to teach you their specializations, I think. And I think I'm going to have to meta-game to get Blood Mage or Reaver, since not a character of mine would do those things...except my horrible human noble...hmm...

Is there really no other way to get Ranger other than that book? That's so strange.

can someone please clarify something about unlocking Blood Mage?
Does my character HAVE to be a mage in order to get it? I am playing a rogue, and when i send morrigan into the fade, i can't talk to the demon. Is there any other way to go in the fade and unlock it? I tried talking to connor upstairs, but that doesn't work either.

Erm... in the ruins next to a little altar? It's a vial similar to those that contain revenants.

Thank you for making a complete rundown post. Things of this nature make the forums much more helpful. Also - a quick aside related to the thread: Specializations are unlocked for subsequent playthrough correct (ie. any of them that you unlock on your first play through will be unlocked on your next character as well)? I'm almost sure I read they were.
..now if they would just fix the search function so people can find posts like this...

Boo....I didn't realize specializations will unlock for your entire player profile. I just finished opting out of Blood Mage because I didn't want to let the poor kid lose his soul. hehe....guess I'll be starting over on a different toon! Not that I mind...love the game!

How is this dialog done so that it's unlocked. I failed to unlock it talking to her and playing her game, she never showed up again for me to try again.birddogcof wrote...

I just sat down with her and played her stupid game and kept losing the DEX checks (mages ftw), but somehow made it on the third try and she taught me. I didn't give her a chance to leave, though...

not sure of dialog - I played her game twice - second go around I caught her arm and cards fell out - catching her cheating is the trick I believe(note also cheated on the shuffle myself and was not caught).Kalten AlThor wrote...

You can 'win' the card game by getting a better hand, which is based off stealing instead of Dex I believe, my mage had little trouble rigging his hand to get the best possible cards, but he did not have the chance to 'catch' her in the act, unless I am mistaken.
