not suer if this works but grunt is a krogun... they recover fast so maybe useing his as the leader in the swarm would help... someone help me out here everyonr i use dies and they are all loyal

Grunt dies like a chump as the doors close. Miranda always lives, though in that role.

That part of the mission is more about strategy. As you can hear in the comm voices, Grunt's comm traffic is always about the group taking hits and getting shot at, and Miranda's is always about how well they're doing and taking out their enemies.

My team survived.

Here were my choices. I always took Jack and Zaeed with me while fighting. Legion was my Tech expert and Garrus was my team leader both times. Samara was my barrier person and Jacob took the hostages back.

Garrus has similar dialogue, commenting about someone making a nice shot and "Good shooting!", etc.

Just use Miranda.  She's the best leader on your squad (besides you).  I had her as the leader both times.

Garrus is the same way one time he yells "Perfect we are set from here" then when i got the door open he died there...

There you go!  I think she's the optimal choice (if she's loyal).

for the tube part, if the person you pick to lead isn't up to the task, your tech specialist dies, I thought Zaeed's years of experience would make him an acceptable leader, but her failed me and got Legion shot in the face

Miranda got Legion in the face too. :(

No, you were just unlucky. Miranda is one of the ideal fireteam leaders you can pick which will have the highest chance of everyone surviving, but there is a small probability that something will go wrong, for most scenarios. I never had a problem with Miranda, plus the game says that she's a tactical genius so it would make sense to make her a leader.

Tali died.. in a cut scene after she hacked the door but it got stuck, we tried to close it by hand and there is where she got shot in the head.. in a cut scene.

ive tried on lots of occasions last time everything went well i used tali for pipe, garrus for team leader , Samara and used Miranda as 2nd leader, told mordins squishy ass back to the ship, and then omg zaeed dies in the hold out thing...guess since i did not have him as loyal, only character!

This is all fine and great.

but what good will it be if Bioware writers just turn all 10 characters into merely NPC's.

that's what i'm worried about.

everyone survived first time for me. All loyal, all upgrades, legion to open door, miri first team leader, garrus second, samara on biotics, grunt as bodyguard and tali and jack with me.

I'm pretty sure that to get Mordin to live you need to take him with you don't leave him with the rear guard team. Salarian Geneticists are squishy. :-P

If you make him escort the crew back to the Normandy he stays alive because he doesn't come back out. So...that is what I always do.

Mordin always dies for me, no one else but him. He's loyal and fully upgraded. Is sending him as an escort the only way to keep him alive?

Mine: everyone lived/loyal/upgraded, Legion tube, Jacob team leader, Jack bubble duty, Grunt bodygaurd and Tali and Mordin with me (yeah, weird choice for team mates but hey).

Not so.  I've done two playthroughs and haven't taken Mordin with my squad either time and he made it through in both playthroughs.

my first playthrough i lost no one.

and i didn't even touch Mordin and he made it out.

Tali for Tech

Garrus for both fireteam leaders

Samarra for Tech Barrier

Jacob for Escort

Legion and Tali in my boss encounter.

Hope it matters in the final chapter.

On my first playthrough, I had Tali as the first specialist to go in the tube and Samara as the bubble. I've always had Jack with me since I theorize that she never gets along with Miranda and would probably get herself killed ... with that said, I had Miranda command the second team twice. Lastly, I picked Zaeed to do escort for the Normandy crew.

As the OP mentioned, Mordin kept dying ... I originally sent Mordin through the tube, but he ate a rocket to the face. So instead of sending in a biological genius to crack the door controls, I brought in Tali, a technical genius. In addition, I brought in Grunt for the first part of the mission in case the door gets stuck-- at least his brute strength could help out there.

Good luck!

I've had everyone survive. It takes a special kind of badass to go into a suicide mission and have everyone survive, even the stolen crew. It also takes a lot of work. You need all of the upgrades for the ship, you need everyone loyal (well you don't have to have everyone loyal, but it gets tricky otherwise). Once you have that it's actually pretty easy. Just pick the right people for the right job.

Tali and Legion are tech experts.

Miranda and Garrus have the leadership skills.

Samara and Jack have the raw Biotic skill.

If you're saving the crew (and you really should unless you NEED those renegade points) then all you need to do is make sure whoever you're sending back is loyal. I've sent everyone from Zaeed to Mordin on the crew escort, so long as they were loyal they and the crew survived.

Did you blow the station or keep it? Seems like there is a way to keep Mordin alive without occupying him.
